Bella is the female adult Peregrine Falcon seen here flying off to hunt for food for her four offspring.
Attractive in their own right, this bird was made even more beautiful with the tropical colors of Lake Michigan in the background :)
Enjoy.
NS 1070 rolls through CP Banks on the East end of the Pittsburgh Line, as it prepares to enter into Enola Yard.
This is the dome of the building at 333 Collins St, Melbourne. It was originally home to the Commercial Bank of Australia and is considered by some to be Melbourne’s most prestigious address.
The decade of the 1880s was one of extraordinary financial growth in Melbourne. During the boom, Melbourne had reputedly become the richest city in the world. It was towards the end of that decade that the Commercial Bank of Australia opened this impressive building.
However, the 'land boom' was quickly followed by a severe economic crash in the early 1890s which lasted until the end of the century. By 1893, the Bank was 12 million pounds in debt and took over thirty years of careful operation before this debt was paid. In 1981 the Commercial Bank of Australia and the Bank of New South Wales merged to become Westpac Banking Corporation.
There was huge controversy in Melbourne when in 1973, the Bank planned to totally demolish the building and construct a multi-storey office block. This led to the formation of the Historic Buildings Council which ensured the Victorian architecture was preserved.
In 1987 Westpac sold the site to the Becton Corporation which constructed a 29 storey tower at 333 Collins Street. However the dome and much of the original architecture was retained.
Melbourne has many examples like this - old buildings retained and housed inside new high rise towers.

6.10.01 As if banking one iconic climb over Shap, 45157 with Std. 4 76079 was enough. 76079 also banked the black five up Beattock bank. So no steam bankers for about 35 years then two happen on the same day!

This local bank had the idea to protect itself by removing the flowers and bushes and placing rocks, possibly to shield it's front from "drive-thru" customers.
Cost saving on landscaping. I love the design change...it's original.
I'm sure each rock has a history and story, even perhaps a name and type. One rock appears to be mooning passers-by. I didn't take it personally. On this date in time this rock grouping is one short of a dozen.
Perhaps they represent board members or customers who count. I know I do.
On the Saturday of my visit there were three banking locos available at Geislingen, the third being 194 080.
This picture is just downhill from the station, and sees 110 228 on N5233 Plochingen - Ulm passing on the mainline.
N5233 paused for a while in the station here, enabling a second picture on departure that I posted earlier.
