Taken moments ago. The road to Moraine Lake i finally open for the year. This is one of the first shots I took upon arrival this morning.

I used to be angry at my friend Doug for skipping rocks in Moraine Lake on an unreal day... I'm starting to change my mind on the subject haha. September 30th of last year remains one of my most memorable days for moments captured like this.

This was taken a few days ago at Vermillion Lakes in Banff National Park.

I just found this in my collection of images of Moraine Lake in Banff National Park. I don't believe I have posted it before...

I just came across this on my work computer... I love going through older photos.

I believe this was taken September 30th, 2015. It was an absolutely incredible day to visit of of Canada's most iconic lakes.

To this day... I have never seen Moraine Lake as beautiful as it was September 15th, 2015.

The images I took that day still leave me speechless.

Banff National Park, Alberta

Taken back on August31st/September 1st... The aurora was out in full force.

It was truly a great display of the Aurora Borealis.

If anyone is interested... I did make a time lapse of all my images I took from that night. 3.5 hours of shooting was condensed into 36 seconds haha.

This morning, I got my first taste of this road of the year. It was a good sunrise and I have yet to see the lake for the first time this year.

Taken earlier this morning. I had a 5am wake up call... Drove through a rain storm and froze this morning haha.

Thankfully, I lucked out with a bit of reflection even with the thick cloud cover.

I believe I took this at the beginning of August this year. This is Herbert Lake. It is located just off the highway after you cross the Jasper Park gate on the left. It is always worth a look in my opinion. Most people don't stop here for some reason haha.

Lake Minnestimma in Banff National Park for sunrise this morning.

Taken a few days ago.

Sunrise at Two Jack Lake in Banff National Park.

Moments before technical sunrise on July 1st... The Blue Hour was amazing at Moraine Lake.

Another one I took a few nights ago...

This was the first aurora display I ever saw that literally materialized in slow motion. It was super fun to watch and there were all kinds of colours making it a pretty unforgettable night for me.

On May 24th, I was curious to know what Moraine Lake looked like through the lens of a GoPro. So I brought my GoPro Black edition with me haha. It is hard to angle properly with no LCD screen on the back of it.

Taken earlier today on my 5 hour adventure... Or isadventure depending on how you look at it haha...

Anyway... I stopped at Vermillion Lakes and this caught my eye. Thankfully I was near a pull off haha.

Taken yesterday morning.

Abraham Lake at sunrise.

While shooting sunrise at Lake Minnewanka last week... I found this crack. Me being me... I got down on both knees and ended up taking this. I love playing around with depth of field and random angles.

I took this a few months ago. The smoke blew in just before sunset at Castle Mountain Junction in Banff National Park.

The smoke made for an interesting effect.

Taken October 7th of last year. A few weeks prior to this, I lost a camera to Lake Minnewanka... I had a good feeling about October 7th so I lifted my Minnewanka ban... Thankfully, I was rewarded with an incredible show.

There were dancing pillars stretching from Mount Astley all the way over to Mount Inglismalde.

It was truly an unforgettable night!

Taken a few nights ago...

Who needs sleep? I stayed out until 2am the other night and then worked a total of 15 hours the following morning haha.

All I can say is... "Worth it." I didn't catch too many meteors but I really like this image... Short of the red in the foreground... Someone decided to back in right behind me when my shutter was open...

Taken September 30, 2015. That date will always resonate with me as Moraine left me speechless that day.

Taken on today's early and long adventure.

On my way back from Abraham Lake... This stretch of highway called out to me. This is right before Num Ti Jah and The Bow Lake turn off.

Taken earlier this morning on one of my many stops haha...

This is where I started Cananada Day last year... This was my second stop this year. I haven't been to Peyto Lake all year until this morning... I lucked out again with the reflection in the lake!

Taken moments ago... Steel wool photography is sooooo much fun.

Taken a few months ago.

I managed to take this just before everything started to thaw. It was a fun morning of touring about. This is how I finished my morning on the way back from Field B.C.

Located halfway between Banff and Jasper National Parks (more or less).

I had no idea you could get to the base of it let alone ice climb it until yesterday afternoon haha.

the biggest brightest i've ever seen

Taken back on July 1st.

Lake Louise. I think I have only gone there about 5 times since I have been back in the Rockies... I'm usually too preoccupied with Moraine Lake haha.

Taken at 6:19am this morning...

Me and four friends hiked to Rockbound Lake overnight... Took us 11 hours total.

What a great sunrise we were treated to!

Taken on my day excursion... Where I wanted to go was blocked off by Parks Canada so I headed into Banff. Before I knew it, I was hiking Johnson Canyon haha.

I took this last week as part of my sunrise excursion to Moraine Lake. I always try to find a new angle of this spot each time I head there... Easier said than done sometimes haha.

I took this sometime last year... During the transition period of phasing out my Sony a65 and just before I got the first Sony a77...

This was taken with my old Sony NEX-5 on an absolutely gorgeous day... Also of note, I never successfully changed the date on the camera. I assure you, this was not taken January 4th haha.

I always like stopping at this lake as there is ALWAYS a reflection in it. This is Herbert Lake. It sits just on the other side of the Jasper National Park gate.

first Milky Way chase of 2023

One of my favourites from tonight... Before Lake Minnewanka starts to thaw further, I really wanted to get some shots of the ice blocks before they melt. It's a frozen wasteland of awesomeness down there at the moment haha.

I took this many months ago. I distinctly remember heading to Moraine Lake for sunrise and then decided to stop randomly at Lake Louise on the way back haha. I have an unusual fixation with Moraine so I usually don't bother with Lake Louise. In this instance, I'm glad I stopped haha.

the lake before the road closes

Taken a few days after I got my new camera body (mid-September)...

Vermillion Lakes Sunrise.

I had to stop for the sunset but I didn't bother with the ND filter so sunset is blown out

This was the first time I went to Moraine Lake armed with my filters haha. I just like how this turned out with the yellow filter... Reminds me of an oil painting haha.

Taken moments ago... I lost all feeling in my face and hands multiple times on today's adventure.

This is a little slice of winter heaven I found at Vermillion Lakes.
