This photo was taken along the PipiWai Trail in Maui. the photo doesn't do this place justice without the music of the bamboo swaying in the breeze. What a wonderful place!
Last spring we spent some days in Kyoto, Japan. Timing was perfect for Hanami, or cherry blossom viewing. Very early in the morning we went to the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, located in the north-east of the city. After that I walked to the nearby Adashino Nenbutsuji, a historical Buddhist temple with thousands of carved stone statues and a nice bamboo forest.
I processed a balanced, a paintery, and a realistic HDR photo from a RAW exposure, blended them selectively, and carefully adjusted the color balance and curves. I welcome and appreciate constructive comments.

A special annual event here where some of the temples and famous spots such as this bamboo forest are illuminated in the evening.
Managed to get a few shots here, the event ends (lights out!) relatively early each day and I didn't have enough time as it was raining earlier in the evening as you can see the ground is wet in the shot.
A good reason for a revisit.
Todai-ji in Nara, a huge compound and the most important temple in Nara which preceded Kyoto as Japan's capital and as such even more ancient.
A UNESCO World Heritage site.
At the right place and right time for this sunset shot.
I have started to notice the excellent color fidelity of this FE16-35mm f2.8GM lens, very happy with it indeed!

This is one of my favorite shots, taken in the Moganshan mountains in Zhejiang province, in a slightly differently processed version. I couldn´t help but have another go at it on my freshly calibrated screen.These seemingly never ending mountain chains emitted a sense of peace and tranquility.

Bamboo Forest, or Arashiyama Bamboo Grove or Sagano Bamboo Forest, is a natural forest of bamboo in Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan. The forest consists mostly of Moso Bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and consists of several pathways for tourists and visitors. The Ministry of the Environment considers it a part of the soundscape of Japan.
Prior to 2015 there was a charge to access the area.
The forest is not far from Tenryū-ji Temple, which is the location of Rinzai School, and the famous Nonomiya Shrine.

The White-rumped Shama (Copsychus malabaricus), also known as the White-rumped Shama Thrush or simply Shama Thrush, is a small passerine bird of the family Muscicapidae ( flycatchers).
They are native to South and Southeast Asia, but have been introduced to Kaua'i, Hawai'I and in Malaysia. Their habitat is dense undergrowth especially in bamboo forests.
Their popularity as a cage bird has led to many escaped birds establishing themselves.
They are around 23 to 27 cm in length. Males are glossy black with a chestnut belly and white feathers on the rump and outer tail. Females are more grayish-brown, and are typically shorter than males. Both sexes have a black bill and pink feet.
De shamalijster, ook schamalijster, (Copsychus malabaricus) is een zangvogel uit de familie van de vliegenvangers (Muscicapidae).
Ze zijn inheems in Zuid-en Zuidoost Azië (India, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodja, schiereiland Malakka en vele Indonesische eilanden). Hun populariteit als kooivogel heeft geleid tot vele ontsnapte vogels in Maleisie en op Hawaï. Hun leefgebied is vooral in de dichte ondergroei van bamboe- en andere bossen.
De insectenetende shamalijster is 23 - 27 cm groot. Mannetjes zijn glanzend zwart met een kastanjekleurige buik en witte veren op de romp en buitenste staart. Vrouwtjes zijn meer grijs-bruin, en korter dan mannetjes. Mannetjes en vrouwtjes hebben een zwarte snavel en roze poten. Beide geslachten hebben een prachtige zang.
