Youth Ballet -- Firebird

My granddaughter, Ellie, has been obsessed with dancing since she was a toddler, dancing along to Barbie ballet videos. To watch her dance on stage often brings me to tears...her grace, beauty, and strength is incredible! This was her youth ballet recital piece and she was one of the princesses (in the white dresses). On a technical note, the stage setting was so dark that I was shooting at ISO 12,800 the majority of the time, but I'm very pleased with how well the 5D Mark IV performed!

Took pictures at the ballet this weekend. Had to use silent mode which requires you to shoot in manual focus mode, so that was an adventure.

Ballet is sort of a mystery to me. And I don't want to unravel that mystery.

Ballet Nacional de Cuba

The company was founded by Fernando and Alicia Alonso and Fernando's brother Alberto on October 28, 1948 as Ballet Alicia Alonso. In 1950, the Alicia Alonso Academy of Ballet school was also established to promote the talents of young Cuban dancers.

Boys have been encouraged to audition as much as girls, and over the years this has become an easier task because parents now realize the financially rewarding future that awaits good dancers. During their eight-year period of training, all students receive support from the government, everything is free. After completing the training, a dancer earns a salary which compares to the salaries of doctors and skilled workers
