My first BE of the autumn. I have seen quite a few before this but without the chance of any good shots. My annual trips to Bald Eagle country are still to come.

Thanks so much to all who choose to look at and comment on my images. It's very much appreciated.
The bald eagle is actually a sea eagle (Haliaeetus species) that commonly occurs inland along rivers and large lakes.
This juvenile bald eagle was taken at the Cranberry Marsh Hawk Watch during migration. I happened to be on the beach when it came through and it flew right over my head. Needless to say all the ducks in the marsh took to the air and it was a toss up which I would photograph.

Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus), majestic adults have blackish-brown body with white head and tail. Several stages of immature plumages aren't quite as majestic, from fully dark brown to messy and mottled with large patches of white. Look especially for white mottling on the belly on immatures. Scavenges and hunts near bodies of water. Soars with wings flat, like a large, dark plank. Head appears large in flight; projects far in front of wings. Surprisingly weak-sounding vocalization is a series of high-pitched whistles.
Bald Eagles can live a long time. The oldest recorded bird in the wild was at least 38 years old when it was hit and killed by a car in New York in 2015. It had been banded in the same state in 1977.
This juvenile bald eagle flew over Greenway with a fish then settled on this branch to eat it. Unfortunately, the branch was on the other side of the lake. By the time I had made my way around to it, this is all that was left.
My two bird seasons are hummingbirds and bald eagles and all the other birds I watch are usually a byproduct from watching for them. This mature was fishing the dam to take fish back to her nest.
This is the closest I've been to a bald eagle, practically flew right into me, but was able to get one quick shot before she flew away. I went downstream toward where she flew and was able to get some shots of her perched in a tree as well (to follow).
Thanks for the visits, faves and comments its greatly appreciated.
Now when juvi grow not enough space in the nest -they away parents have time spend in the nest
But remember juvi mast feed every two hours
I was lucky to observe and photograph Bald Eagles Courtship for the first time, Courtship is a time to develop and strengthen the pair bond, or form a new one. Scientists have observed some mating behaviors on wintering grounds, but have also seen males and females start courting in breeding areas.
Bald eagle pairs engage in a number of courtship rituals as they build their bond. The most famous and recognizable of these rituals is the "cartwheel courtship flight," this involves pair of eagles which will fly up high, lock talons and then get into a cartwheel spin as they fall toward the ground. This is nothing short of a visual delight, seeing it was amazing and being able to take few shots to share is a bonus.
Bald eagle population in Alberta is thriving, large number of eagles are wintering in Canada.
