Here are 24 baked cinnamon doughnut bits I made early today. Would anyone like one with a Tea or Coffee?
The last time I was down at my local store I came across this and I couldn't resisted, so I brought it and made them today.

This one's for you Kiersten!!! Another one I had last night (I only had half of each!) and i think my favorite so far... the best cake at Oakmont is the White Almond... and mmm....

OK, so here’s the deal. You get white almond cake with white chocolate chips and strawberry filling, frosted with vanilla buttercream and dipped in pink ganache. As a bonus for no extra charge, you get a chocolate coated strawberry on top, drizzled with pink ganache. BUT, there is one thing I won’t do, and that’s be put in a box with other inferior desserts. I stand alone honey, take it or leave it. Yea – so I’m a diva. And that would be bad, how?

A génoise cake (pronounced [ʒenwaːz]; Genoese cake or Genovese cake) is an Italian sponge cake named after the city of Genoa and closely associated with Italian and French cuisine that does not use any chemical leavening, instead using air suspended in the batter during mixing to give volume to the cake. Génoise is not the same thing as pain de Gênes, which is an almond cake; however, Génoise is very close in composition and basic use to pan di Spagna ("Spanish bread"), an Italian sponge cake.
It is a whole-egg cake, unlike some other sponge cakes that beat their yolks and whites of the eggs separately; the eggs, and sometimes extra yolks, are beaten with sugar and heated at the same time using bain-marie or flame, to a stage known to patissiers as "ribbon stage". Génoise is generally a fairly lean cake, getting most of its fat from egg yolks, but some recipes also add in melted butter before baking.
It's the blueberry muffin mix centre — turns out it cannot hold. I'm not sure whether the event is more properly termed a collapse, a subsidence, or stress fracturing. In any case, there's a reason the moulds are marketed as "Build-A-Bear Workshop® Cake Pans". (Our more controlled use of the pan can be found here.)
To make it presentable, I coated the exposed interior surfaces with red sugar to suggest the gory aftermath of explosive decompression, or perhaps monstrous parasites bursting forth, a blood-dimmed tide being loosed, what-have-you. My daughter decorated the exterior with it's swarm of creepy eyes and and peace signs, while the original concept (which had been to remove the ears and nose before frosting) and dangerously unstable baking was done by my wife.
This slouched towards Omaha this weekend to attend OSFest 2 at the ConStellation NE room party. It was only the final mishap of a not-overly-ambitious refreshment theme that was caught up in a widening gyre of misfortune before falling into mere anarchy. The cookies turned out OK.
(Just as an aside, my brief time at Flickr has taught me the importance of irrelevant search-engine hits* bringing in alternately intrigued or irritated viewers. Welcome!)
*I was here referring to the poetic quotations, not the Build-A-Bear® product I'd not previously heard of. My referral logs open up a whole new world to me.
After the nightmarish disintegration of her previous attempt at using the Build-A-Bear Workshop Cake Pan, my wife hit upon the idea of simply laying the two halves of the cake flat, joining them at the base, and decorating them as a sort of alien head. The surface was covered with M&Ms, Life Savers Gummies, and "Tangy Gummy Boogies" from a Box of Boogers. Decoration process started by my wife and finished by my daughter.
This went off to Cedar Rapids this weekend to attend ICON 34 at the ConStellation NE room party.

The french vanilla strawberry cake I made for my brother's birthday today!
It tasted like Strawberry Shortcake! It was so good!
The only thing I will do differently is next time instead of the buttercream icing I would make whipped cream instead.
Other than that, I am glad I only had a half piece!
This one's for desert tonight :-)

Bagged and ready to give as gifts to a few lucky recipients...
I only made three varieties. Molasses Spice, Lemon Sugar and Chocolate Crackle. Hopefully they're all well recieved.
Liberian Pineapple Nut Bread

Bake for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the loaves comes out clean. Cool slightly. Run a sharp knife around the edge of the pan to loosen the sides of the loaves from the pans. Remove the loaves from the pans. Cool completely before slicing.
To store, wrap and refrigerate. The loaves should keep for at least a week.

Had to make a stop at Oakmont Bakery since my mom was in town.... this place is sweet tooth heaven! This is just one small section, there's about 10 more this size full of more types of cakes, pies, cookies, and other bits of pure delight ;-) I would've liked to have been able to show you more but there were tons of people!
