HMM... the macromonday theme for today is food that begins with B. having had only one option last week that was disallowed, today i have a bunch-- the first three presently in the photostream are all serious contenders (blueberries in chocolate, blueberry pie, and baked beans with brown bread) ~grin~
ANSH scavenger1 On toast
(yes, i actually did toast the brown bread before setting this up)
A classic piece of lazy British cooking; baked beans on toast.
I was treated to roast beef earlier in the day (yes I know Francophones, "les rosbifs" do eat it), so this was all I wanted in the evening. And no, these are not the maple syrup baked beans I bought in Quebec last year, those are still in the cupboard as I am not yet ready for that culinary idea.
I've taken this image more for fun and participation in Macro Mondays "bread theme", and it's really a close-up with the kit zoom lens, rather than a macro.
Square crop because: square of bread.
The one creative element in the composition is the fork - I have tried to create a bit of action in the shot as a tribute to one of my childhood TV series; please Google "Grange Hill sausage" and you will see what I mean in the image results!

A legume is a plant in the family Fabaceae (or Leguminosae), or the fruit or seed of such a plant. When used as a dry grain, the seed is also called a pulse. Legumes are grown agriculturally, primarily for human consumption, for livestock forage and silage, and as soil-enhancing green manure. Well-known legumes include beans, soybeans, peas, chickpeas, peanuts, lentils, lupins, mesquite, carob, tamarind, alfalfa, and clover. Legumes produce a botanically unique type of fruit – a simple dry fruit that develops from a simple carpel and usually dehisces (opens along a seam) on two sides.
Legumes are notable in that most of them have symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacteria in structures called root nodules. For that reason, they play a key role in crop rotation.
The term pulse, as used by the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), is reserved for legume crops harvested solely for the dry seed. This excludes green beans and green peas, which are considered vegetable crops. Also excluded are seeds that are mainly grown for oil extraction (oilseeds like soybeans and peanuts), and seeds which are used exclusively for sowing forage (clovers, alfalfa). However, in common usage, these distinctions are not always clearly made, and many of the varieties used for dried pulses are also used for green vegetables, with their beans in pods while young.
Some Fabaceae, such as Scotch broom and other Genisteae, are leguminous but are usually not called legumes by farmers, who tend to restrict that term to food crops.
Archaeologists have discovered traces of pulse production around Ravi River (Punjab), the seat of the Indus Valley Civilisation, dating to c. 3300 BCE. Meanwhile, evidence of lentil cultivation has also been found in Egyptian pyramids and cuneiform recipes. Dry pea seeds have been discovered in a Swiss village that are believed to date back to the Stone Age. Archaeological evidence suggests that these peas must have been grown in the eastern Mediterranean and Mesopotamian regions at least 5,000 years ago and in Britain as early as the 11th century. The soybean was first domesticated around 5,000 years ago in China from a descendant of the wild vine Glycine soja.

Since Kate was out this afternoon, I made myself lunch including my favorite pre-cooked meat product. It was the perfect opportunity, since she's not a big fan.
As I was plating my repast, I was nervous about the juice from the beans touching the eggs (yeah, a little OCD), until I had the brilliant idea of putting the Spam between them.
Later, after I picked her up, I told Kate about my culinary genius and Kate immediately said, "a Spam dam."
This is why we've been married for 41 years. ;-)

A lot of the spiders I collect in the field are photographed in a white tray and I use a small fine paintbrush to position them. In the UK we have very few arachnids capable of giving a painful bite and Dysdera crocata, with its impressive fangs, is one of them. This female wasn't at all happy with me touching her and immediately spun around to bite the paintbrush. Interestingly, Segestria florentina, another one of the UK's 6 eyed spiders is equally defensive. For the record, this is defensive behaviour. I'm sure if someone kept poking me with a broom, I'd soon get the hump!

2 mins in microwave – ready.
A slight change of menu tonight. I was going to cook couscous with veg but alas… it’s Wednesday and I had no time. I just opened a jar of baked beans and heated it up in microwave (oh, this time I didn’t forget to cover it with cling film).
I had today:
Fresh juice of 1 orange and 1 red grapefuit
Oatmeal (savoury) with 1 egg
4 x (slices) of whole wheat bread with cheese
1 x double cappuccino
1 x (thick slice) of ginger cake
1 apple
½ bag (=about 150g) spinach
1 x (pot = 3 cups) herbal tea
1 x (jar) baked beans
a handful of parsley
a handful (=about 10) almonds
-----------------
I’m now thinking if I should have a glass of red… hm, maybe not.

Well, I do like cooking… I do.

Socially distanced Beans and Egg - the only way I can eat it is if they are not touching - one of my little foibles.
Cooked by Roger.
consisted of pulled pork on toasted (with butter) barbecue bread with hot and sweet BBQ sauce. I had sides of sweet potato fries and baked beans. Served up deliciously at Georgia Smokehouse.

More birds & throw aways by Aspire in Penge.
Aspire asking those in control to spill the beans on how much is really recycled.
My husband spent his birthday at the hospital with me as I had my porta-cath replaced. We took him out for a belated birthday to Famous Dave's. Can't get near the place on the weekends and super busy at lunch too. Yummy food, love the coleslaw which is sweet with a touch of horse radish. Had a great meal and practiced shooting in manual. Who could ask for more??
A million housewives every day pick up a tin of beans and say beanz, meanz, Heinz.
That was their little ditty in the UK TV adverts back in the 60's.
I read this week Heinz has just had a commercial banned in the UK because it allegedly encourages dangerous behaviour in children. A few people complained to the ASA* I suppose you could say those people spilled the beans :))

I am in heaven as I've found my favourite baked beans at The World Market and I guarantee I won't cut myself.
*The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) is the self-regulatory organisation of the advertising industry in the United Kingdom. The ASA is a non-statutory organisation and so cannot interpret or enforce legislation. However, its code of advertising practice broadly reflects legislation in many instances. The ASA is not funded by the British government, but by a levy on the advertising industry. Its role is to "regulate the content of advertisements, sales promotions and direct marketing in the UK" by investigating "complaints made about ads, sales promotions or direct marketing", and deciding whether such advertising complies with its advertising standards codes.
