Bánh Mì, if you did not discovered it yet, is the world best sandwich. I have eaten these for the last 20 years. The crusty bun, the barbecue pork, pickled carrots and radishes. It was good to try first time the authentic version in Vietnam. Toronto does quite well in comparison, but the bun is better and the fillings are more generous in Vietnam. You can pay between 15000 to 50000 dong ($0.7-$2.00) for Bánh Mì. The 47000 dong Bánh Mì I had in Saigon was the most expensive, but way too big for one person. It is not customized and comes with everything. Quán NY was very close to my guest house, but I did not try it's offering. The best one I tried was possibly in Hoi An. Quán means kiosk or shop in Vietnamese. Cà phê is of course coffee.

Not uncoincidently, the Lucky Rock pinot noir paired very nicely with the Lucky Rock Bahn Mi sandwich.
While wandering in one early morning, I found a corner of local breakfast hang out place. The smoke effect in this picture is from heavy morning dew or mist mixed with hot coffee, congee and bahn mi...this is just in front of riverbank of Mekong River.
Bánh mì and cappuccino in the morning. There are few places in the world where one can get a first class #bahnmi and a super delicious #cappuccino than in San Francisco. One cannot always eat scones, croissants, eggs and bacon or pancakes. Today I woke up in need of this #vietnamese #sandwich and I always begin my workday with a top notch cap! Day Two of The Great Zombies and Lattes Road Trip of 2014.
Started with an amazing cherry donut from Frankie's Donuts. Second best donut I've ever had. Baked in Telluride (Telluride, CO) still holds first place.
Ended with Big Ditch Brewing (Buffalo, NY) Hayburner American IPA; roasted jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese chorizo mixture served over Cuban black bean and corn relish (not pictured, cuz I inhaled them before thinking about it); black and tan onion rings; and Vietnamese bahn mi sandwich.
Best sandwich that I have ever eaten. Best. Ever.
The onion rings and IPA ranked pretty highly too.

Nicky's (150 E. 2nd St., New York, NY) Classic Vietnamese Sandwich with patè vietnamese ham, roasted ground pork, pickled carrots, cucumber, cilantro, jalapeño and mayo on a toasted baguette.
Among the best sandwiches I've ever had. While there is other Bahn Mi in the city, Nicky's was my first and still my favorite. I can think of no greater dining experience you can get for just $3.95.

Homemade bánh mi. Yummy Vietnamese sandwiches with cold cuts, pickled daikon and carrot, and coriander/cilantro. Mmmm!
From Saigon Sandwich Shop (560 Larkin Street, San Francisco). This is the pork one. Vancouver's house special from Tung Hing (Kingsway and Inverness) still reigns supreme.
