There was so much snow they even closed the mall! Hundreds of cars drove off of the roads and into the ditches. The state police sent out urgent warnings requesting that people stay off the roads. Schools were closed for three whole days and even Starbucks closed early!

Kidding aside, we had about 2 inches of snow near the waterfront. It was a different story just 20 minutes to the east. People reported 2 and 3 feet over two days. Trees split apart and fell onto of power lines. Power is out to severe thousand residents. Freezing rain is coming tomorrow and the real fun is expected to begin.

...only a matter of when this idiot crashes his motorcycle.

In my previous life I had a knack of often being in the right place at the right time to witness traffic stupidity. I still have the knack.

The young motorcyclist is looking behind him for a police car. After the light changed to green, the hot shot driving the red car took off like a bat out of hell...as did the motorcyclist. They were last seen traveling south on Minnesota Drive at a high rate of speed.

Prior to this particular red light, the motorcyclist had been behind the red sedan at a different light holding his front brake while spinning his rear tire. Real pretty smoke show...as they say, drive it like you stole it!

By the way, it isn't a question of if or even when for the red sedan...notice the body damage?

box, driven by some turd, who so very rudely and dangerously cut me off today! Watch out for this Turdbox!

Why Can’t Some People See Entire Empty Parking Lots - IMRAN™

Seriously? What is it with people having to park next to my car … no matter how vast an empty parking lot surrounds them?

I got to Banfield Pet Hospital well before their opening time of 8AM (to drop off my German Shepherd Kennedy for a regular dental cleaning). None of the stores in the plaza were open, so the parking lot was empty. I parked in a solo spot even some distance from the stores.

A short while later I came out to find this dual display of “We are too dumb & inconsiderate to see a massive empty parking lot and have to shove our vehicles right next to yours.”

Does that happen to you? Share your experiences/photos in your comments.

ABCDEF: Bug-Brained Beetle Driver Being an Ass#*£€ by Choice — IMRAN®

(My 188th Flickr Explore!) (Strange, frankly.)

Normally, an old car like this — regardless of condition — would be a cute sight to see still on the road. But when driven by an Ass#*£€ by Choice type of person, it loses any such favor. The car would get positive attention on its own — but the attention seeking ID10T driver turns it negative.

This junky Beetle was driven by a jerky menace on the road. He was deliberately going slow in the passing lane on a long stretch of winding highway on Long Island, New York, this Saturday afternoon.

People having to go around such pig-heads creates unnecessary danger even in the best of conditions — and on winding, sloping roads, that danger is heightened.

So I’m just calling out the AH as a public service, and as a reminder to all of us to avoid losers like him. (Photo taken with handsfree Meta Ray Ban smart glasses {even the sunglasses have more brains than drivers like that}).

You’re welcome to share examples like this in comments or submit to share them at the ABCDEF page I’ll add in comments.

Why? Why This Spot In Massive Empty Home Depot Parking Lot? - IMRAN®

Surely this is some sort of mental health issue that some people have. I posted a similar example from a Lowe’s parking lot on Long Island previously. The entire massive parking lot of Home Depot is almost empty. I specifically parked further away from the entrance to not have other cars parked next to mine.

I come back out and this is what I see. Why? Weren’t all the other empty spots in this photo— and many more behind me (closer to the store) — visible to this driver? Were these spots somehow not the right color or texture for this person?

Why? Why This Spot In Massive Mostly Empty Parking Lot? - IMRAN®

Another demonstration of people’s behavior. Surely this is some sort of mental health issue that some people have.

Nearly closing time. The entire massive parking lot of this Home Depot was almost empty. I specifically parked further away from the entrance to not have other cars parked next to mine.

I come back out and this is what I see. Why? Why here?

Weren’t all the other empty spots visible in this photo — and four times more behind me (closer to the store) — somehow not the right color or texture for this person?

FDMB was first on the scene, but faced with" injuries inconsistent with life" there wasn't much they could do.

Everything is left in place until Traffic Homicide photographs and catalogs the scene and accounts for all the equipment deployed.

Guess I can't keep using Illinois driving habits now that I'm back in good old BFE, Wisconsin. I've been stopped twice this month- but both the Omar (Sheriff/Sharif- get it?) and the Trooper let me off with a warning. And no, I don't bat my eyelashes or give a sob story. I just honestly admit how fast I was actually going when they ask if I know why I was pulled over and apologize politely for not following the regulations.

I actually used to be a fairly lawful and obedient driver until I spent about a year and a half living in the Chicago area. After I moved back to Wisconsin, I started getting terrible feelings of road rage dealing with slow drivers and getting upset that people here actually slow down for yellow lights and follow speed limits. The worst culprits are minvans of any make and Buicks- guaranteed to piss me off. The list of fake rules and driving habits below actually seemed to be followed pretty closely by drivers in Chicago city proper and suburbs from what I witnessed.

Driving in Illinois: Basic Rules (Kids- don't try these at home... save them for your visit to Chi-town!)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real Illinois driver never uses them.

2. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. Crossing two or more lanes in a single lane-change is considered going with the flow.

4. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.

5. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will inevitably result in you being rear ended. If you want your insurance company to pay for a new rear bumper, come to a complete stop at all stop signs.

6. A right lane construction closure is just a game to see how many people can cut in line by passing you on the right as you sit in the left lane waiting for the same jerks to squeeze their way back in before hitting the orange construction barrels.

7. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. Illinois is a no-fault insurance state and the other guy doesn't have anything to lose.

8. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.

9. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.

10. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions and are apparently not enforceable in Illinois during rush hour.

11. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a Illinois driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

12. Please remember that there is no such thing as a shortcut during rush-hour traffic in Illinois.

13. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire.

14. Learn to swerve abruptly. Illinois is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to the State Highway Department, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

15. It is traditional in Illinois to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes.

16. Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding.

17. Remember that the goal of every Illinois driver is to get there first, by whatever means necessary.

(No wonder we call 'em FIBs here...) ;)

This landscaper is trying to do his civic duty... and not get run over at the same time.

It is a new traffic pattern, but there are ample signs.

Thats one way to know you parked as possibly close to the sign as possible. Thankfully that pole was there or it may have been the SUV they were hitting...

Angel of Light (James Watkins)

You’re not as you appear

Old friend,

Your crown is sullied brown.

Its golden glory

Sold and shamed-

God’s gift gone underground.

Hypnotized,

You compromised

A dance in dangered round-

The multitudes

With guilt confused-

Then

Brought the building down.

A fine foundation shattered-

It lies like broken glass-

Gone the way

Of winnowed wheat-

Decaying in the grass.

Dead to truth and mercy-

You kindled your own flame-

Then introduced the poison ruse-

Invoked by sacred name.

The darkness now created

Is deeper than the rest-

For others followed helplessly-

You’ve put them to the test.

Stumbling, blind,

And leaderless-

Like sheep

To shearer bound-

With death

You rend the innocent-

They die without a sound.

You’ve filled your coffers

With delight-

Advantaged for all gain-

Clothed with counterfeited light-

And profited from pain.

Some cosmic comic cowboy-

Confused by gaudy grave-

Awaited by its fullness-

In guarded pathway plays.

Rehearse for hell you hero-

You’ve fallen on your sword-

With one mistake too many-

Impaled-

Your plans disgorged.

You’ve taken on

Too much this time-

This giant’s cruel and cold.

Released by

Pressured prophet’s prayer-

Resistant to your mold.

Turn today-

Come face the fact-

Your kingdom’s fading fast.

The words you’ve spoken

Fall like rain,

Then dissipate like gas.

Not one you’ve taken

Will survive-

No single work will last.

Your judgment’s just-

Your time has come-

Your reign is in the past!

Drawn down deviled dancer-

Clown that’s played the fool-

The puppet master’s

Cut the string-

And taken you to school.

The strength you build

With your free will-

A gift that’s gone astray-

Will testify against you-

Its master to obey.

So measure up the moment

You paradox replete…

For every living creature

Serves...

His purpose.

C’est la vie!

Another Play/Poem that fits well with this by Dylan Thomas

Under Milkwood (Dylan Thomas)

To begin at the beginning:

It is spring, moonless night in the small town,

starless and bible-black,

the cobblestreets silent

and the hunched, courters'-and-rabbits' wood

limping invisible down to the sloeblack,

slow, black, crowblack, fishingboat-bobbing sea.

The houses are blind as moles

(though moles see fine tonight

in the snouting, velvet dingles)

or blind as Captain Cat there in the muffled middle

by the pump and the town clock,

the shops in mourning, the Welfare Hall in widows' weeds.

And all the people of the lulled and dumbfound town are sleeping now.

Hush, the babies are sleeping, the farmers, the fishers,

the tradesmen and pensioners, cobbler, schoolteacher,

postman and publican, the undertaker and the fancy woman,

drunkard, dressmaker, preacher, policeman,

the webfoot cocklewomen and the tidy wives.

Young girls lie bedded soft or glide in their dreams,

with rings and trousseaux, bridesmaided by glow-worms

down the aisles of the organplaying wood.

The boys are dreaming wicked

or of the bucking ranches of the night and the jollyrodgered sea.

And the anthracite statues of the horses sleep in the fields,

and the cows in the byres, and the dogs in the wetnosed yards;

and the cats nap in the slant corners or lope sly,

streaking and needling, on the one cloud of the roofs.

You can hear the dew falling, and the hushed town breathing.

Only your eyes are unclosed, to see the black and folded town

fast, and slow, asleep.

And you alone can hear the invisible starfall,

the darkest-before-dawn minutely dewgrazed stir

of the black, dab-filled sea where the Arethusa,

the Curlew and the Skylark, Zanzibar, Rhiannon, the Rover,

the Cormorant, and the Star of Wales tilt and ride.

Listen. It is night moving in the streets,

the processional salt slow musical wind in Coronation Street and Cockle Row,

it is the grass growing on Llareggub Hill, dew fall, star fall,

the sleep of birds in Milk Wood.

Listen. It is night in the chill, squat chapel,

hymning, in bonnet and brooch and bombazine black,

butterfly choker and bootlace bow, coughing like nannygoats,

sucking mintoes, fortywinking hallelujah;

night in the four-ale, quiet as a domino;

in Ocky Milkman's loft like a mouse with gloves;

in Dai Bread's bakery flying like black flour.

It is tonight in Donkey Street, trotting silent, with seaweed on its hooves,

along the cockled cobbles, past curtained fernpot, text and trinket,

harmonium, holy dresser, watercolours done by hand,

china dog and rosy tin teacaddy.

It is night neddying among the snuggeries of babies.

Look. It is night, dumbly, royally winding through the Coronation cherry trees;

going through the graveyard of Bethesda with winds

gloved and folded, and dew doffed; tumbling by the Sailors Arms.

Time passes. Listen. Time passes.

Come closer now.

Only you can hear the houses sleeping in the streets

in the slow deep salt and silent black, bandaged night.

Only you can see, in the blinded bedrooms,

the coms and petticoats over the chairs, the jugs and basins,

the glasses of teeth, Thou Shalt Not on the wall, and the

yellowing dickybird-watching pictures of the dead.

Only you can hear and see, behind the eyes of the sleepers,

the movements and countries and mazes

and colours and dismays and rainbows

and tunes and wishes and flight and fall

and despairs and big seas of their dreams.

From where you are, you can hear their dreams.

Dylan Thomas

Some people just can't drive....too busy rocking at everything else :-)

(ok. yes. This is directed at a "special" someone.)

Apparently, the driver of the Bounder realized he was on a closed road and panicked, just about the same time the Pokemon player tried to dash across.

A traffic cone had been placed between the Jersey barriers, which accounts for that one in the middle of the street.

But, no one can account for the light pole lying in the middle of the street.

There's no base or wiring anywhere to be found, not a a scratch on the RV, and they're aren't even any lights like that anywhere on Driftwood Road.

It Was (Almost) Curtains But It's (All) In The (Air)Bag(s) - IMRAN™

In the previous chapter of this story, I wrote about how one, well, two actually, moments of people not looking over their shoulders while driving led to a lifelong struggle with chronic neck pain and spasms for me.

In 2003, my solid as a German tank S-class Mercedes AMG was totaled by an uninsured son-of-swine drunk-driver smashing into me. He was doing 80 mph in a 30 mph residential zone driving a Ford Explorer at 4 AM, after leaving a bar he had been drinking at all night.

The impact pushed my car into a tree after hopping over a curb. The drunk swine went through a green belt, through a fence, through a front yard, and into a family’s living room.

It was 4 am and the room was empty or he would’ve killed someone watching TV there. It’s people like him that I have no compunction wishing an early end for before they hurt or kill others.

Even worse shame, despite his doing this, he was not even put in prison by the NY state courts. He was fined merely $500. Who wants to bet $500 the scumbag did not stop driving drunk.

As you can see from the photo taken in the total-loss car a few days later, five of the eight airbags in my car went off from the impact. The rims were shredded, the tyres burst, but the crumple zones did their work. These are among the many reasons I am a lifelong Mercedes-Benz lover by the grace of God.

So, I would take the need to have surgery 20-40 years after not getting killed or maimed in these accidents as a blessing. "Another true miracle" is how I saw each one of these events as, not even counting half-a-dozen other times when I was a sure goner in other life incidents.

Thanks to the Almighty, I am still here, and so grateful for every blessing, and love from each and all of you. Prayers always appreciated for the miracles to continue.

Looks like another case of Wrong Way Driving on Driftwood. At least the other drivers are paying attention.

You might think that the driver is just confused, because this used to be a two way road, but this is a rental, and the driver is from Illinois, so that doesn't explain it.

Don't Look Back, But Always Look Over Your Shoulder - IMRAN™

As I had written earlier, multiple traumas over 30 years added up to literally be a pain in the neck. It started with my being T-boned (no pun intended) as a passenger on a motorcycle hit by another motorcycle at 18, just at the start of my Engineering University studies in Lahore. I was riding behind my friend Naeem Safdar on The Mall road in Lahore. It was 2 AM in 1980 with no traffic visible.

We were with another pair of friends on their bike. When those guys unexpectedly did a U-turn just past Pakistan State Guest House, Lahore Naeem quickly turned. But he did so without looking over his shoulder-- even as he said to look behind if anyone was coming.

Too late. Before I could look over or say anything, an unrelated couple of guys going like 80 mph suddenly saw us turn too late to stop. Naeem's right leg was shattered from the impact.

The other driver flew past us between us, scarping his whole face on the road surface from not wearing a helmet. That guy's passenger flew straight into my neck like an NFL player - with neither of us having any head or body protection.

By the grace of God,I did not break anything. However, the sudden total twist of the head and neck into my shoulder started the discs and vertebrae damage. But, hey, to me it was a miracle to have lived so far without breaking anything.

Later several such traumas over the next three decades made things worse. None broke anything, so insurance companies wiggled out of it but the damage and deterioration continued and accelerated.

One such accident was in 2000. I was a passenger in a rental Ford Taurus. I had told the girl driving that car just the previous night that her habit of changing lanes without looking over her shoulder was very dangerous. She made light of it.

On a California freeway she took the exit lane, then suddenly changed her mind, and got back onto the main expressway lane. Yes, again in this case, she did so without looking over her shoulder. Boom! A speeding car behind us in that lane struck us on the left rear passenger side where I was sitting.

We spun across 4 lanes of a California expressway. We ended in a ditch next to the opposite lanes of traffic. We barely avoided being smashed to pieces by an 18-wheeler.

Despite that whiplash injury, nothing was broken so I am gratfeul to this day. Plus, not being crushed by the 18-wheeler made me consider it yet another miracle.

So, I do not look back on my life with any regrets. But I never forget the miracles that kept and keep me alive. I do tell people, don't look back... but always look over your shoulder!

Back then, in that 2000 accident era, most cell phones did not have cameras. That is why I do not have any photos of the shattered Ford Taurus that we all fortunately walked away from.

This photo is from exactly 20 years ago, the fall of 2003. It is from another traumatic experience a few years later -- which I will share the story of later. Thank you for the love and prayers, always.

The Cypress Plaza parking lot isn't exactly built for boats, and it's hard to navigate those trailers for some. Stopping in the middle of the street, even on a Sunday morning, still isn't a great idea.

The VW broken down in the opposite lanes won't help, either.

This entitled "upper" class person cut me off, I had to swerve out of the lane.

I'm sure that Mercedes driver thought if he just kept inching a little closer, that would put him over the egde, but now he missed his chance, the light has changed, and people have to steer around him.

Luckily, no one was injured in the making of this image...

It`s all a matter of keeping your eyes on the road. Luckily for this guy a train didn`t come by or that would`ve been it.

Drive by shot.

August 2005. As an ex-pat living in Cairo I've seen quite a number of wrecks at the side of the road (hey, I cheated death a few times myself!) Man, they are bad drivers out there. I thought that I would take a picture of this one as a reminder of my time driving ... knowing that one day it could have been my turn. Fortunately I managed to avoid any serious collisions.

Every once in a while you run across a really bad driver. This is one such incidence. This dumb blonde thought she was sooo good, she even drives with her eyes closed - no hands on the wheel.
