I've always wanted to explore this beautiful and very wild river, it was a dream come true. Just me, a 12 pack of Pabst, and endless deep pools to swim in.

Anglican Church of St Peter & St John (1883) - Baddeck, Nova Scotia.

One of only four remaining churches designed by Reverend Simon Gibbons, Canada's first Inuit priest. It is believed that Gibbons first came into contact with the Cambridge Camden Society while building St Peter & St John's. It was designated a Provincially Registered Property under the Heritage Property Act in 1990 due to its connection to Gibbons and because it best exemplifies the style of the Cambridge Camden Society which advocated a return to simple Medieval styles. Typical of neo-Gothic architecture, the wooden church features buttresses, pointed arch windows, and a round-headed window on the east elevation.

We are still based in Baddeck, but will be moving to Halifax, tomorrow. We drove around the Cabot trail yesterday, but encountered fog/low clouds around the western half, but the sun peeked out by the time we got back to the east coast. The day before we visited Louisbourg Fort.

This is an unedited photo...snapshot. Connections are bad and I don't have my trusty software on this computer.

Having a great time....Later.

We took a ride on a sailboat...the Amoeba in Baddeck, Bras' d Or Lake. It was a sunny day with great skies.

Later that evening when we returned to our B&B in Baddeck, we stopped for a sunset shot. There wasn't much to shoot so I went closer to the river and stood on the bank. The grasses could make an interesting subject I thought, given their knife-like appearance. As the landmass in the distance changed in proportion, I chose an opening that would help match its shape.

The colors on the horizon were once more magical, and grew more vivid with each passing minute. As I craned for more height, my tripod was at its maximum and I was on my toes. Finally, as the shot took shape, I remember thinking that once again, nature had offered an interesting opportunity. One with more foreground than back, and changing the typical landscape scenario.

Over 6,000 km to get this shot. We live on the west coast of Canada, and flew to the east coast to Nova Scotia. We went for the company of friends, the "Color Festivals", and the colors of the foliage. All gave us their best. This image was referred to as a record breaker because I stopped the car only 4 minutes from our B&B. What landscape photographer can resist a little early morning fog.

The following images are from our trip and show my version of Nova Scotia. A holiday that delivered around every corner, and one with photographic goals in mind. Nova Scotia offers far more than a 3 week trip could manage; it is such a gorgeous province.

The Cabot Trail is a breathtaking scenic highway located on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. It spans approximately 298 kilometers (185 miles) and loops around the northern tip of the island, passing through the Cape Breton Highlands National Park. The trail is named after the explorer John Cabot, although historians believe his landfall was likely in Newfoundland.

The Cabot Trail offers stunning views of rugged coastlines, lush valleys, and ocean vistas. Along the way, you'll find charming fishing villages like Chéticamp and Ingonish, as well as opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, whale watching, and golfing. Popular hiking spots include the Skyline Trail, known for its spectacular sunsets, and the Franey Trail near Ingonish.

The trail is also rich in cultural experiences, with Acadian and Gaelic heritage showcased through local crafts, music, and festivals like the Celtic Colours International Festival. For history enthusiasts, the Alexander Graham Bell National Historic Site in Baddeck is a must-visit.

Whether you're exploring the trail by car, bike, or on foot, the Cabot Trail promises an unforgettable journey through one of the world's most scenic landscapes

We were at the base of Cape Breton's iconic road trip, and where the Cabot Trail begins. Parking nearby, I was out hunting for an end of day image. Leaving the town of Baddeck behind us, It was now evening and the sun was setting. The mildly colored clouds had set in place, and a foreground rock was showing the warm glow of the sun.

A serene state, there was so much to explore and the days all seemed far too short. A photographers paradise, there was much to treasure.
