Not really one to put myself out there, especially full force but…

A few weeks ago I got an email from Time Out London and they asked me whether they could do a little behind the lens feature. Of course I said yes…There are other people that have done it before me and their caliber is so much superior to mine, so to be consider I am very honoured.

I did not get to chose the pictures they used, I would have chosen a few different ones, but I can understand why they went with them ones that they did…

Image was taken from the Great Gatsby wedding theme I went to over the weekend….

Not much on the edit, just played with the split tone and added some vignetting, may have over done it with the sharpening.

They did add a line in there too that I did not say….hence why I am putting this picture up…lol

This was taken a few months ago and it was my first time using my LED Tube. I had switched off all the lights in the studio, switch to the 50mm. I used my other small LED lights and set it to pink and got the studio tech to hold it to the side of her face whilst the model held the tube on the other side of her face. It was actually taken hand held at 1/80, f1.4 at ISO 100.

All I did in post was take away a few spots and decreased the blacks and increased the sharpness in lightrooms.

This is at the entrance of Petticoat Lane Market and what a difference it is when it is empty…what I love about this area is the how at eye level you get an old feel of London, yet the moment you look up you are faced with a beautiful metropolis that is our city.

I did take a picture just on its own but saw father and son walking pasted me and I just waited a second or so and they walked right in front of me and I took the shot.

I had a little sun flare and I increased the whites to blow it out a bit more, increased the clarity and reduced the blacks and finally added a little bit of vignetting in light rooms.

I was talking a short cut and walking underneath waterloo bridge and thought I would have a quick wonder pass the graffiti tunnels. when I saw a group of people on a shot, I decided to stop and watch and see what they were doing and see whether I could get any tips from watching them.

While watching I saw that they were trying to get a shot from the ground but there tripod did not go down that low. I had my gorilla pod on me so I offered it to them if they would let me take a picture her. This is one of the first ones I took.

This picture was taken in the middle of the tunnel, I increased the clarity, the highlights and the whites too. I went over the eyes of the picture on the wall with the iris enhancer and added a bit of vignetting but this time I decreased it and got a white border instead in lightrooms.

What Love about this picture is that you have a some what modern technological world painted on the wall and that you see her in half ballerina outfit and then like a street look on top and I think the combo just looks great.

So before we actually got in the start line we had to que just outside as there were so many people there, it did take around 50 minutes to get to the front of the line, normally I would have been very angry and would have gone home if I had to wait in a cue that long but this cue was amazing…everybody was dancing and singing away and being really friendly.

I took this just as the blue hour was finishing and trying to take a picture with a 50mm is trying to get some composition in a crowd like this is not easy, my arms were getting tired holding it up in the air…lol

I reduced the highlights and increased the clarity and I found that it bought out the sign at the back on wembley stadium and increased the saturation and contrast a bit to bring the colours out in Lightroom.

This image was the first picture I took but I did not like it because of the composition. So I decided to crop the image and see what I can do with it. I decided to go with a black and white look and leave the young lady in as much colour as possible. I also added both of our names in and tried to make it look like it was part of the image before hand, I think my name does but not hers…lol

I used PS to put the names in and then bought it back in Lightrooms where I used the saturation brush to go over the image and take away the colour and then used the eraser brush to bring the colour back on her. I decreased the clarity and increased the highlights to give the image a softer feel and finally used increased the colour priority to whiten out the edges.

This shot was taken towards the end of the day and the sun was just coming round and getting ready to go down. As I was walking up the street the street in front was just lit my the reflection of the sun. I waited a bit as I did not want cars in the shot and I want just wanted people to cross the road where the reflection of the sun was lighting up the street. Took a little while but eventually I got what I wanted and love the fact that one of the guys had a white t-shirt on as he just stands out perfectly.

Did not do much on the edit, I think I over did it with the clarity, decreased the shadows and the blacks and just added a little bit of contrast.

These last few months I have not had as much time as I would like to go out and take some pictures and have also felt a little uninspired and feel like that magical new photographic eye that I have been developing is slowly disappearing...

So recently I have been taking my camera out in hope that I would see something to awaken my sleepy eye. I was stuck in traffic a few weeks back and was really bored do I decided to get my camera and just have a play to see what I can get. I saw that the road was still wet and thought I would get some reflection. On one shot my car moved forward as I took the picture and I noticed a slight a burr in the image, I liked the effect that I got so I decided to ran with it and try other shots and eventually ended up with the above image.

Not much on the edit, converted to black and white, increased the clarity and just added a bit of lens vignetting and finally a little bit of a crop in lightrooms.

I was walking back to the car to get my tripod, as it started to get dark. I came out the forest into an opening an was faced with this awesome view and for a second I felt like I was back in Africa, but as I was in a rush I just took the one picture which in hindsight I wished I had not as there was most likely a better composition I could have taken….oh well there is always another time…

In post, I decreased the blacks and increased the clarity, vibrance and added a little bit of paint overlay in lightrooms.

This was not my intended shot but it was not until after I took my picture and viewed it on the back of the screen and zoomed in that I saw how sharp and clear the bee had come out.

I did have to crop it to get it like this but was not sure on whether I had cropped it to get the best out the picture. The other crop had the flower and the bee on the right hand side with more of the leaf's in the background.

I did not do much on the processing, just increased the clarity, vibrance and a bit of sharpness and finally increased the green saturation a little bit just to bring the leaf out a bit more in lightrooms.

Taken on Lake Kernaala (Kernaalajärvi) Janakkala.

I was searching for a nice spot to shoot this nice sunset. First I had plenty of time, but quickly I found my self losing all the light. Finland is a real beauty, but in summer and inland everywhere is forest and big bushes, feels like all the nice scenery is hidden somewhere. So I failed the scouting, but I ended getting to this lake little after the sunset.

This one is taken with 2 mins exposure and using x400ND filter. I probably edited the wrong picture, because the rowboat is still full of noice. Darn. But it is what it is, these days, with two children one two year old and one two moths old, I should be grateful for even getting to shoot once in a month, time is pretty scarce. ;]

This one is fun because you can make fake ghost sign by using it for texture in your image and also setting it as a layer beneath your image then erase the edges to expose it. Make it pop more by applying a gradient. Changing the light direction and amount of relief will give you a variety of looks.

I just about managed to take this from the sky garden last week….just kidding…lol

I took my nieces to the circus a few weeks ago and as stopped at a traffic light I saw this in front of me and the sun was setting and I could see it reflecting on the buildings and just had to take it.

In post I increased the clarity, sharpness and reduced the blacks and used the spilt tone to bring out some more colours and finally used a bit of lens vignetting to mask that ugly thing in the front.

For weeks I have been trying to get a picture of a sunset, but with two broken ribs and a twisted knee, trying to get up to a decent view point has not been so easy…every time I got there I would miss the sunset…

By chance a friend recommend horsenden hill and the time we got up to the view point we still had a little time…

I did use my ND graduated filter and straightened the picture in LR.

Was out in London with Mr Searle and we were taking pictures of another anchor when the tide started to go out…as it did it present us with another anchor to play with, had my filter on so I go for that milky effect.

Converted to black & white in LR, reduced the highlights and increased the shadows slightly and increased the greens and yellows to bring the trees back out and added a small vignetting.

Just as we walked into Wembley Park and as we were waiting for the Run to start, we met our first group of people who happened to be three awesome sisters.

They were very kind and helped us put our 'war paint' on and in return they allowed me to take a few pictures.

I set my metering to a single point and focus on her eye…when I looked at the back of the screen I thought perfect I got the shot I wanted…however when I got home and looked on the big screen I had realised that either I had moved or she did and the focus point had move to her ear…bit disappointed but that is how we learn. I still like the image so I thought I would share.

For the editing I started with the soften skin brush but went a bit OTT with it and had to do it again…I did not want it to be to soft, I still wanted the face to look as natural as possible. I bought the temperature down a little. I used the radial filter to have the vignetting just around the eye.

A Time For Celebration...

Christmas (Old English: Crīstesmæsse, meaning "Christ's Mass") is an annual commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ and a widely observed holiday, celebrated generally on December 25 by millions of people around the world.

A feast central to the Christian liturgical year, it closes the Advent season and initiates the twelve days of Christmastide. Christmas is celebrated by an increasing number of non-Christians.

Derived from Greek Khrīstos (Χριστός), a translation of Hebrew Māšîaḥ (מָשִׁיחַ), "Messiah"; and mæsse is from Latin missa, the celebration of the Eucharist.
