Way back when The Spice Girls were popular, I went to their book signing on April 11, 1997 in NYC.
It was kind of embarrassing as I was the only adult there without a kid.
I waited about 1.5 hours on line. When it was my turn, Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) was the first. She was very sweet and thanked me for coming.
Victoria Adams aka Beckham (Posh Spice) and Mel C (Sporty Spice) were next. They didn't even look up. They just signed and passed the book.
Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice) and Mel B (Scary Spice) were the coolest because of what they said to me.
Both of them told me they really liked my hair. (I had a BIG pompadour like Elvis or Morrissey at that time.)
As their security was moving the line along, Geri told him to wait as she (and Mel B) weren't finished talking to me.
The entire time from first Spice Girl to last was all of maybe 45 seconds. I think that's about 15 seconds more than most people got from what I could tell.
It's a day I'll never forget.
Funny story - They were very popular with the kids in my school.
That's how I became a fan.
Anyway, I brought the book to work to show the kids. I remember a student asking me who I liked best. At that time Emma Bunton was my favorite. And I will always remember what she said:
"You should call her up, I'm sure she'd go out with you."
I thought that was so sweet and cute.
Sidebar - some people may make fun of me for liking them, but I think they sent out a very positive message to young girls. A message that many girls probably needed to hear. Beats referring to women bitches and hos.

"The Return of the Spice Girls" at TD Banknorth Garden in Boston, Massachusetts on January 30, 2008.
Coinciding with the Spice Girls international reunion tour, Sydney's inimitable professional drag queens stage a tribute show at Arq Nightclub. Dressed as Ginger Spice, drag queen Minnie Cooper tells an amusing story to the rest of the 'Spice Girls' backstage -- from left to right: Ginger Spice (Minnie Cooper), Posh Spice (Charisma Belle), Baby Spice (Miss Tiffany) and Scary Spice (Kitty Glitter). Another drag queen appears on video only as Sporty Spice.
Part of an ongoing documentary study on the life of Sydney professional drag queen, Kitty Glitter, far right (in progress).

I am now totally in the mood to listen to old Spice Girls tracks >.< ♥
My friend and I went to their concert and for half of it we had her sister on the other end of the phone listening in. It was so great.

this hat i got in Mexico which seemed like a good idea at the time. she looked so cute in it I gave it to her. Those pearls she is wearing are the old plastic kind that pop together like a ball n socket so you can make them any length. I am not sure they make them anymore. (another great grandma item)
I'll tell you what we want, what we really, really want… MY SCENE DOLLS!!!! 😘🇬🇧💋🍭✌

Spice Girls during "Spice Up Your Life (reprise)" in New York on February 7th, 2008- Return of the Spice Girls Tour
The greatest fad in late 1990s pop music was the British female quintet Spice Girls.
Here is the full quintet, from left to right:
- Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice, Sexy Spice)
- Melanie Brown, or Mel B (Scary Spice)
- Victoria Adams, later Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice)
- Melanie Chisholm, or Mel C (Sporty Spice)
- Emma Bunton (Baby Spice)
Halliwell's departure from the group, in search of a solo career, was the key reason for the rapid fizzling of the Spice Girls after just two years on the scene, but the group later came together for one final farewell tour.
Madame Tussaud's - always a tacky tourist trap, but also always a good place to test my portrait photography skills - and my prime lens (35mm f/1.8).

An exhibition dedicated entirley to 90’s pop phenomenon the Spice Girls is coming to Derry.
The Spiceworld Exhibition takes up residence in the Tower Museum from August 16, featuring memorabilia from the Spice Girls’ glittering Brit pop career.
The exhibition is expected to be a huge draw for young and old music fans who are interested in viewing some of the iconic items from the band’s whirlwind success story.
The exhibition includes memorabilia, costumes, shoes – including Gerri Halliwell’s Union Jack boots - and other iconic items from their stage and screen performances over the years.
