Nick name "Champ"
Champ, because it is propelled in the water like a champagne Cork upwards (and because it's a clear winner type already after a few days, just a champion in the heart breaking)

Es tut mir leid, dass es kein besseres Fotos gibt.
Champ ist noch zu klein. Er darf noch nicht nach draußen.
Sobald er raus darf, gibt es hoffentlich bessere Aufnahmen ;)

I'm sorry, there's no better photos.
Champ is still too small. He or she can still go out there.
As soon as he or she can get out, there's hopefully better images ;)
Experts believe that the modern-day hippo evolved in Africa around 8 million years ago. While they bear a resemblance to horses and pigs, these semi-aquatic mammals are in fact most closely related to whales, dolphins and porpoises – no wonder they’re so good at holding their breath underwater! These days there are only two types, the bog-standard hippopotamus and the smaller pygmy hippopotamus, but a few other now extinct species could be found across Europe and in Madagascar as little as 1,000 years ago. Hippos are now most common in countries such as Zambia and Tanzania.
In Africa hippo numbers are sadly declining. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) listed them as a vulnerable species in 2006 after establishing that the hippo population had declined by as much as 20% within the previous two decades. Drought has led to habitat loss, and the hunting and poaching of hippos, both for their meat and ivory teeth, is also a major threat.
Hippo Day reminds us to celebrate and value these mud-loving mammals, in the hope that they’ll be around for many more years to come.
Baby Hippos with 'legal guardian' / Flusspferde (Hippopotamus amphibius)

(from deep down in my archives :-))^
Thanks to my friend Johann de Jager (Mzansi) for telling me about this day!
This baby hippo kept trying to climb its mother's back because of the currant in the river. This is the smallest baby hippo I have seen.
While on a birding tour by boat on the Zambezi River near Victoria Falls, we came across this momma and baby hippo headed to the river after staying on land overnight. Momma was very wary of us; they turned and walked back into the bush until after we had passed by.

One day it is outside now and one day inside, and the water is opaque by the mud they so love :)

A new and important addition to the world’s river hippopotamus population arrived at the San Diego Zoo over the weekend. On Saturday (Feb. 8, 2020), female hippo Funani gave birth to her 13th calf.
According to wildlife care specialists, the not-yet-named youngster appears to be healthy, alert and active. Funani has been keeping a close eye on her new calf—tucking it between herself and the side of the pool—however, the public will have a good opportunity to see both of them as they move in and out of the pool for food and exercise. Eventually, the two will be visible in their outside habitat on Tuesdays, Thursdays and weekends, while the calf’s father Otis will be viewable Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
The hippopotamus is listed as Vulnerable on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species. The primary threats to hippos are illegal and unregulated hunting for meat and the ivory from their canine teeth, as well as habitat loss. Hippos can still be found in a number of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

Please don't ask me, how this hippo baby got on her mothers back. Possibly it happened while she was diving. I have never seen anything like that before. But as the baby girl even tried to crawl on her mothers head, mom simply dived and the baby was washed away. (photos taken in Basel Zoo)
