Santa Fe B23-7 6379 and a GP30 await their next assignment at Salina, KS while a snowstorm rages to the east on November 22, 1986.
A Ferrosur crew picks up cars in the yard at Los Reyes on lìnea VK as the FTVM crew backs up towards the Cemex plant.
For a time in 1979, several Delaware & Hudson GP39-2’s showed up in Conrail service. A few Conrail B23-7’s were spotted on D&H trains, so I believe that these were loans for evaluation, especially since Conrail was beginning to replace its first- and early second-generation fleet. Here two D&H GP39-2’s join a Conrail U30B on the Saucon Drill in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, while a PB&NE switcher/slug set work in the background. The EMD’s are no strangers to these tracks, having begin their lives as Reading units.
A B23-7 drills the Southern Railway yard in Monroe, Virginia. The grass growing in the yard tracks is a good indicator that this yard’s future is in jeopardy. Today, a single-track main line and one siding are all that remain here.
Man I sure do love these classic four motor GEs that remind me of my days growing up. I'm glad their is one little road nearby that keeps the dream alive.
Fore River Transportation GE B23-7 102 (blt. in Jul 1978 as CR 1980) is switching their small yard that extends out behind their shop down to the waterfront on the grounds of this former naval shipyard. Once their train is made up they'll pull down clear of the wye then shove back out to work the big Twin Rivers plant.
This plant is the railroad's only present customer and also the owner of the railroad company that operates the property on behalf of owner Massachusetts Water Resources.

An eastbound Conrail manifest rolls past the one-time site of the Lehigh Valley’s Calypso Yard in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Empty hoppers roll west over Conrail’s Middle Division at Mifflin, Pennsylvania. Two B23-7’s will get the train to Altoona, but more power will be needed to get them around Horseshoe Curve.
The former Jersey Central main line east of Bethlehem has been unused as a through route since the early 1970's. The tracks between Easton and Freemansburg were ripped up, and the former main line between Bethlehem and Freemansburg became known as the Freemansburg industrial track. By the time of this photo, the industries served on the Freemansburg industrial track no longer used rail service. Occasionally, Allentown yard would be full, and a train waiting for a crew change would be sent down the nearest part of the Freemansburg industrial track to get it out of the way. Usually, the trains backed into the siding, but here, the power is as far east as I ever saw a road engine on the Freemansburg industrial track.

A westbound Conrail ore train rolls past the abandoned yard along the former Reading main line at Woodlane, Pennsylvania. The power combination of a B23-7 and a C30-7A is somewhat unusual.
Deep into the forests of the region of Värmland in Sweden, lies this well-hidden car cemetery. Hundreds of cars from the 40s, 50s, and 60s are spread out in the area, some of them covered with moss, with trees growing through them, stacked on top of each other or placed side by side. While it has not been confirmed, many of the cars are said to have belonged to the US military who left the autos after World War II.

Ohio Central train ZVL passes the Zanesville Water Works as it nears the city of Zanesville where the crew will tie up their power for the day. Lead B23-7R 3185 is one of a couple of Super 7s still in service on the Ohio Central, as they are slated to be retired and scrapped as part of Genesee & Wyoming's consent decree with the EPA. The paved trail to the left of the train was once a PRR line that went north to Trinway.

I am often asked if I still take photos - I do but I don't normally add them to my Flickr page - too modern! The recent Eastbourne Classic Bus Running Day however, allows me to show some recent stuff. 10/2004 - CR 2022 is among a trio of B23-7s pulled from the deadlines for scrapping. All three were retired under Conrail and still wore their Conrail numbers. As you can see, brush along Chestnut Ave at that time was out of control.
