Near threatened species. Many species of Thraupis tanagers are widely-distributed, but the Azure-shouldered Tanager occurs only in the Atlantic forest region of southeastern Brazil, from Espírito Santo south to Rio Grande do Sul. Its distribution overlaps that of the Sayaca Tanager (Thraupis sayaca), but the Azure-shouldered Tanager is larger with a heavier bill, has deep blue wing coverts, and a buffy belly. The Azure-shouldered Tanager forages in humid forest, at forest edge, and in adjacent second growth, but in general it is more closely associated with forest than is the Sayaca Tanager. The diet of the Azure-shouldered Tanager includes both fruit and arthropods. Birds of the World.

Coenagrion puellais a species of damselfly found in most of Europe. It is notable for its distinctive black and blue coloring. They are commonly found around ponds and lakesides during the summer.

Males

Adult male azure damselflies have a head and thorax patterned with blue and black. They have an azure blue abdomen patterned with black markings. The marking on the second segment of the abdomen is U-shaped, separated from the segment's narrow terminal black band. (This distinguishes it from the variable damselfly where the U-shape is joined to the terminal band with a black line.)

Segments three to five are blue with broader black terminal bands, lacking the forward-pointing projection the upper surface which adult male common blue damselfly has. Segment six has a similar pattern but with more restricted blue and a broader area of black, and segment seven is mostly black, with just a narrow blue area at the base. Segment eight and much of segment nine are sky-blue, forming a noticeable contrasting patch, but there are small dark markings on the rear upper side of segment nine, which adult male common blue damselfly does not possess.

Females

Adult female azure damselflies have a head and thorax pattern similar to that of the male, but with glittering, glossy green replacing the blue coloring. The abdominal segments are largely black in coloring, with narrow pale

Nymphs

The nymphs are usually green with browner wing buds and lamellae. They develop in one year (two in the north), feeding among submerged vegetation and on small invertebrates.

Mature adults are seen frequently mating and laying eggs. It usually stays close to the vegetation around the pond or lake and flies from May to September.

After posting the bird sign from Lake Alexandra, I realised that I had not uploaded a photo of the azure kingfisher. So here is is. A bit fuzzy but the best I could manage at the time.

Apologies to Shakespeare.

An azure jay eating its favorite treat directly from the source! :-))

Love me with your worst intentions

Didn't even stop to question

Every time you burned me down

Don't know how, for a moment it felt like heaven

Large tanager with a strong bill. Pale blue overall with deep-blue patches on the wings. Similar to Sayaca Tanager, but with brighter blue tones to the wings, strong violet blue patches on the wing coverts, and a dark rather than pale area in front of the eye. Found in humid forests, second growth, and forest edges. ebird.org/species/azstan1.

Neat treatned species.

Near threatened species. The Azure Jay is found primarily in forests of southeastern Brazil. It is distinguished by its blue body and black head and neck. The Azure Jay is omnivorous, but tends to eat the fruit and seeds of Araucaria trees. It's conservation status is rated as Near Threatened due to habitat loss and deforestation. Not much is known about the Azure Jay and therefore more data is needed on many aspects of its biology. birdsoftheworld.org/bow/species/azujay1

At least I think that this is what this little gem is.

Taken on the show ground In Builth Wells, there’s a small pond there and it was teeming with damselflies, but most of them were on the pond and out of reach, there were a few on the edges and this was one of them. I was so excited when I got home to find that I had the odd photo sufficiently in focus that I could upload here!

Thanks for stopping
