Douglas AD-4NA Skyraider 124143 'RM-205' F-AZDP at Duxford Flying Legends 2009 _26K3353 slight crop and rotate, although nothing like Roy Lichtenstein's "WHAAM" painting this image somehow reminds me of it!
This aircraft was involved in a midair collision at the end of Flying Legends 2011, held at Duxford. During a run and break the aircraft pulled up to turn downwind when it's wing struck P-51D Mustang D-FBBD ( Big Beautiful Doll). For a few seconds it appeared as though the Skyraider was going to crash before the pilot regianed control and landed the aircraft on the grass runway. Sadly the Mustang was not so lucky and with the damage sustained the pilot, Rob Davies, was forced to bail out and suffered minor injuries.

2015 Chevrolet Tahoe PPV with the AZDPS. This was the one and only year AZDPS used the skin on this body style before switching to what we see currently. Somewhat of a rare find.

Seconds after this pass during the Flying Legends 2011 “Balbo” flypast at Duxford, this section carried out their break manoeuvre and a dramatic mid air collision ensued between the lead P-51D (CA-18) 47-2218 (D-FBBD) aka “Big Beautiful Doll” and the AD-4N Skyraider 124143 (F-AZDP), the Skyraider’s starboard wing slicing into the Mustang’s rear fuselage. Sadly this resulted in the crash of the stricken Mustang, but not before pilot, Rob Davies miraculously parachuted to safety at very low altitude. The damaged Skyraider landed safely minus a wing tip.
