7/16/21 - Sculpt update on the Space Jockey - ALIEN 79 - 1:18 scale.

So after the inevitable cutting and resizing of the torso that almost made my work go viral for all the wrong reasons (I was briefly a cake designer on reddit it seems), it is once again whole and at this stage, complete.

Check out the comparison shot, before and after - the difference in length was a half an inch.

Along with the sculpt work that replaced that which was reduced and adjusted during the resize, I made sculpt changes to the creature's cranium, completed the detail behind the head and neck of the doomed pilot and reworked the sculpt of the hands to appear more bony and less fleshed out. I actually still have a bot of dremeling to do to the hands...and a moment ago I said this was complete (rolls eyes) LOL!

Next step, taking a break so I can get back to work on other projects. That being said, I know how I am and when there's a step needing to be done it will drive me crazy till it's complete so don't expect this project to be tabled anytime soon. BUT...believe I have the luxury of multitasking now LOL! Thinking about building up the remaining front of the chair, where the "canon" will sit. I'll have a better explanation in the update video that will follow up next week.

Thanks for checking in on my latest update! Hope you enjoy the pics! More to come!

Figure sculpt update for 3/18/22 -

Migraines took me out periodically over the the past couple weeks...those of you that suffer them know what I'm talking about. Unfortunate reason for the delay but feeling much better now

Update of Jedi Dass Jennir from the Dark Horse Comics series Dark Times (Out of the Wilderness arc). I finished sculpting the hair, arms, chest and back. Next comes the details to the belt and his holster. I have to sculpt it in such a way where articulation won't be hindered when positioning him on his steed. I'd rather the figure not be built on a parts swapping gimmick but worse case scenario, I sculpt a second lower body of his legs in a static sitting position and forget about it. It's more work but it's a personal project so why not? We'll see.

Next up is progress made on the bounty hunter Falco Sang from the same series. I finished sculpting his upper body along with detailing to the front and back of his chest harness/gun holster. The actual holsters themselves are being sculpted separately and will be attached in such a way as not to impede on the arm articulation. I have a couple ideas on how to accomplish that. Also working on custom weapons seen in the comic using some Marauder GR weapons I purchased a few years back along with some various Star Wars themed weapondry.

Finally sculpt progress made on the Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell, Skorr. This character comes from the classic Marvel comics strip of the same title. Body sculpt build is complete, and I’ve started sculpting the boots which will be shown in a future update. Starting from the bottom, up and will add some additional articulation as I go forward. The frame was originally a Boss Fight Studio Spartan and has worked very well for this build so far.

That’s it for now! As of this update, I was able to get some additional sculpt work completed so I’m shooting those updates now and will have that up soon. Just didn’t want too much time to go by without an update.

Hope you enjoy and thanks again for your continued interest and support for my work. ❤

2.1.22 - Sculpt update on Falco Sang from the Dark Horse Comics series Star Wars: The Dark Times. 1:18 scale.

I’ve continued the build of the arms and the front half of the lower abdomen. I haven’t sculpted the back to the figure yet, that will come next. You can’t really work too much epoxy at once…especially if you’re working detail, multiple projects or both. Slow and steady wins the race in my opinion.

Completed the shoulder armor. I simply sculpted the armor pieces over the existing sculpted shoulders, allowed them to cure and later popped them off from the sculpt underneath. If you’ve got an existing cured layer of epoxy already sculpted and you add another layer of epoxy over it, unless you score that original layer for the new epoxy to have something to adhear, it can pop off without too much effort. I then refined the shoulder armor with a Dremel and some fine sandpaper.

Same goes for the elbow pads. Sculpted and later popped them off. They will be attached at the lower biceps, just above the joints to the forearms. I’ll go back and add the arm bands at the front in the same location. As far as the shoulder armor goes, not sure how they will be attached. Possibly with clear, mini-elastic bands. Remember the bands that held action figures and their accessories in place? Yea - those bands. I’ve used them before, with my New Republic Soldiers, and my Nostromo EVA Suits. They’ve held up pretty well.

That’s it for now! More updates coming soon! Jennir update coming soon with some ideas of new projects to come later in the year and well as resurrecting some old ones.

Thanks and take care!

2.10.22 - Sculpt update on Skoor: The Bounty Hunter from Ord Mantell. Star Wars Marvel Classics, 1:18 scale.

Many of the images depicting Skorr in the classic Marvel comics is of him sporting a trench coat/robe getup and belt holster. Nothing too fancy.

I never saw much of his body but would like to assume his cybernetics go further than just one side of his face so I sculpted a segmented design around his neck. I know you can’t see it in these images, I’ll have shots of that later on.

Posing him in a "quick draw" stance ❤

Before I begin sculpting the outfit, I need to build up the body a bit since the coat/robe looks to be heavy and free flowing in places. I’ve started with the shoulders and the chest. This will all be sculpted over again and can seem a bit of “rinse and repeat” but I assure you, it makes things a lot easier. Especially when dealing with articulation.

Just a quick update on my progress. Much more to come soon!

3.5.22 sculpt update for the "Tropical Rain Forest" Cantina Concept creature. Based off the Ron Cobb cantina concept drawing and the illustration shown in the Dark Horse Comics series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

1:18 (3.75") scale.

So this figure is literally based on two images. One, a concept drawing by Ron Cobb for a Cantina patron in A New Hope and the other, a single comic panel from the Dark Horse Comic series, Knights of the Old Republic. Both can be seen here.

I based this initial head sculpt on the KOTOR panel several years back when I delved heavily into the story arc. Its a great comic series…please check it out! Now I’m finding I want to develop BOTH the comic version and the concept.

The body I’ve begun building here is based off the concept or plant version. The idea is to create a base in which to sculpt the floral around, adding joints to provide articulation points when needed. I don’t want this to be a static figure but understand it can’t function the same way as a traditional action figure.

The KOTOR version however can surely be a full blown action figure and I’m equally excited about creating it.

So expect to see an additional head sculpt to match Ron Cobb’s concept as well as a new body frame of the KOTOR character. Basically there’s going to be two figures created from this idea which will be fun.

More to come! Thanks again!

7.5.22 Sculpt update on Skorr from the classic Goodwin/Williamson Marvel comic strip The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell.

Finally got his britches on LOL! Well, mostly...still lacking in the lower abdomen. I finished sculpting the legs the other night. Still retains the double joint articulation in the knees.

After finishing the lower abdomen, I'll begin sculpting the upper and lower arms.

More to come! I'm very interested in sculpting more of these classics, sometimes "campy", Star Wars characters from years ago.

9/4/22 Sculpt update. 1:18 scale.

- The Revwien pilot from Dark Horse Comics series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

- Skorr from the classic Goodwin/Williamson Marvel comic strip The Bounty Hunter of Ord Mantell.

- Ron Cobb's Tropical Rainforest cantina concept creature for Star Wars: A New Hope.

Made some great progress on the Revwien pilot build. Focused on the upper body sculpt of the pressure suit and scratch building of the backpack. Since I didn't have much detail to go by other than the single comic book panel, I took some creative license using some sheet styrene and a handfull of greeblies (spare parts) I have accumulated over the years. Also reinforced the abdomen joint to give better articulation and stability. Widened the hips a bit and have begun building up the lower legs. Figure is pretty tall, measuring about 6" for a 1:18 scale figure. Big and lanky.

Sculpting cloth is a bit of a trick when working with a two part epoxy. I think I'm off to a good start with the sculpt update to the bounty hunter Skorr. What's great about the epoxy is that you can get pretty thin with the sculpt but still retain a great amount of strength. Trick is patience. You only want to begin working with the epoxy in it's final hour of curing, just at the point where the clay's tackiness is waining but still plyable enough to shape and cut. Also you want the "cloth" sculpt to retain the position and form you want so those last minutes of that last hour is key. Afterwards, I went back with a dremel and sandpaper to soften some of he rough edges as well as add a few additional folds I missed while draping the material. The figure retains a great amount of articulation but some sacrifice was given for the sculpt to work properly...I'm not a fan of most soft goods at this scale. Next will be the upper body and arms. Holset and belt deatils will be the last item to add.

Finally the upper body...well, more or less the entire body...of Ron Cobb's cantina concept for the Tropical Ranforrest creature is complete. I added a ton of detail to what looks to be a gourd? Adding details such as tendons and breathing "gills" between the folds of the body. Next trick, the arms and legs...or leaves if you will. Pedals?...I don't know what to call them LOL! No matter, it will be fun to figure out how they will all attach. I posted a test shot earlier last week of what it has the potential to look like if all goes well. More updates on this process soon.

More updates coming! I have several other figures I need to post updates for, along with a couple new ones! Also, a digital artist named Ian Stewart posted some excellent Nostromo blueprints on Artstation which I discovered a few weeks ago that detail the layout of the Nostromo bridge more clearly so expect a return to my favorite doomed starship in the coming weeks. Very talented work! Be sure to check it all out here...https://www.artstation.com/artwork/EBBVN
