Mexican Navy tall ship spectacularly set sail from Fremantle port decked with a giant Mexican flag.
The ARM Cuauhtemoc arrived in Freo on Wednesday 18 Sept morning and remained in port until Saturday afternoon 21,Sept.
The crew of the ARM Cuauhtemoc climbed the rigging for a spectacular entry and exit of Fremantle Harbour, Western Australia.
According to Fremantle Ports, the “instructional” ship facilitates the Mexican Navy’s 4th year naval cadets and is currently holding 261 sailors, many of whom clambered onto her 48.2m-tall masts in a remarkable display of welcome.
Freo is the Cuauhtemoc’s first Australian stop in her eight-month global training and goodwill cruise, following stops at San Diego, Honolulu, Tokyo, Incheon, Shanghai, Manila, and Singapore.
The Cuauhtemoc departed Fremantle at 2pm on Saturday, when she sailed on to Sydney, Auckland, and Tahiti.

A storm on New Year's Eve 1936 destroyed the dock and pier that allowed adventurers to catch a water taxi to one of the gambling ships that were anchored in international waters off Coronado One such gambling ship (named the Monte Carlo), was beached on that very New Year's so very long ago. She remains on the beach today. Her story tells that no one claimed the pretty prize because of the gambling and prostitution ring that would carry a heavy price. So there she lie, abandoned and alone as slowly the ravages of time stole her beauty and the silt beckoned her deeper... for years she lay, with only but an occasional glimpse of her regal head peeking out.
Then, three weeks ago when severe storms hit the Coronado Island coast line, her sand blanket was washed away, leaving her bosom exposed to the public eye once more... and as legend has it that there is believed to be silver and gold buried deep within her... and the masses once again rushed to her side...

The earliest tales of a lost Spanish galleon appeared shortly after the Colorado River flood of 1862. Colonel Albert S. Evans reported seeing such a ship in 1863. In the Los Angeles Daily News of August 1870, the ship was described as a half-buried hulk in a drying alkali marsh or saline lake, west of Dos Palmas, California, and 40 miles north of Yuma, Arizona. It could easily be viewed at a distance of several miles from a mesa that lay between Dos Palmas and Palma Seca, California. The stories have given Palma Seca other names: Soda Springs, Indian Springs, and Bitter Springs, as the area was not well mapped in 1870. Expeditions were sent out in search of her, but the ship had either never existed or had vanished into the sand and mud once again. The Galleon, according to legend, is now under the waters of the modern Salton Sea.
