This is a photo of the Total Lunar Eclipse of September 7th, 2025. The Moon was only 14 degrees above the horizon at the maximum eclipse. It was a rather faint eclipse. Furthermore, the final stages were not visible, due to some low clouds.
This was the 41st lunar eclipse of Saros 128, which began on June 18th, 1304 AD and will end on August 2nd, 2566.
I wish everyone health and clear skies!

Lunar eclipse from September 7th, 2025 during totality. The image is a HDR blend stacked out of a 2-minute video at 60fps.
Taking a video allows me to extract thousands of images (60 per second), automatically select the best frames (without clouds) using software such as Autostakkert and then stack them all together to produce a detailed image with high signal-to-noise ratio.
The result is this 300-image stack. Hoping we have much better weather for the next eclipse.

This picture was captured using a telescope with a Hydrogen-alpha (Hα) filter. This lets us see the Sun's chromosphere. As a result we can see many solar features, such as sunspots (seen here as black dots, plage (beach), seen here as bright white areas, filaments (black lines) and prominences (seen around the edge).

Crater Deslandres, seen just left of center, is easily seen in this image due to the Sun's low angle on this scene. Later in the lunar day when the Sun is at a higher elevation, this ancient and eroded crater is difficult to see.

Last night’s Haloween Blue Moon.
I’ve seen several people posting images of moons that have been colored blue. I want to take a moment to let every one that is unaware know that our moon does not actually turn blue. A “blue moon” is the name given when there are two full moons in one calendar month. This happens ~ every two and a half years. The expression “once in a blue moon” means something that is relatively rare, which a blue moon is!
If you saw someone that posted a moon that was blue colored, it is because they decided the moon is not beautiful enough on its own.
This is how our moon appeared to me last night, reflecting the sunlight in its usual color. I took 200 frames using my Sony a7RIII and Celestron Edge HD 800 telescope as my lens. I used a program called PIPP to analyze each grame and I took the best 50 of those photos and I stacked them in Autostakkert!3. This allows me to correct for atmospheric disturbances and create a much sharper image of the moon that I could with one single frame.
