Alfa Romeo launched the new 2000 Series in 1971 as a continuance of the late 1750 model. The new 2000 Berlina featured a redesigned grille - as compared to the 1750 - and was fitted with a 1962cc engine delivering 130 hp and reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. The new model was also equipped with a mechanical fuel injection (US market only) and a 5-speed manual gearbox. This model was discontinued in 1977.

The most spectacular super sports car of its time,

designed as a mid-engined racing machine, tamed for road use.

In 1971 Marcello Gandini (Bertone chief designer) created a radical futuristic styling with such sharp edges as never seen before.

The spectacular proportions of the Countach were clearly influenced by its technical layout.

The abbreviation “LP” (Longitudinale Posteriore) refers to the position of the five-speed gearbox in front of the longitudinale posteriore mounted twelve-cylinder engine.

At the Geneva Motorshow Lamborghini unveiled the final version of the Countach in 1973.

Design features included the legendary scissor doors and a miniscule rear window integrated into the roofline.

The Trabant's designers expected production to extend to 1967 at the latest, and East German designers and engineers created a series of more sophisticated prototypes through the years that were intended to replace the Trabant P601; several of these can be seen at the Dresden Transport Museum. However, each proposal for a new model was rejected by the GDR leadership for reasons of cost. As a result, the Trabant remained in production largely unchanged; in contrast, the Czechoslovak Škoda automobiles were continually updated and exported successfully. The Trabant's production method, which was extremely labour-intensive, remained unchanged.

4-cylinder (98 PS, 1570 cc) dohc-1.6-litre-engine

In 1962 Alfa Romeo launched the extremely successful Giulia Berlina (sedan) with its characteristical “bone tail” (1962 – 1974).

This Alfa Romeo Giulia (105 series) was launched the first one a manufacturer put a powerful engine in a light-weight car for mainstream production.

In several disciplines it ran much better than the ’02 series’ of BMW and could even give Porsche-drivers a scare.

The Giulia weighed about 1,000 kilograms. The car was equipped with a light alloy twin overhead camshaft (dohc) four-cylinder engine, similar to that of the earlier Giulietta models range.

Engine capacities offered were 1.3-litre (1290 cc) or 1.6-litre (1570 cc). Various configurations of carburetors and tuning produced power outputs from about 78 to about 112 hp (57 to 82 kW).

Almost all Giulias made had a 5-speed manual transmission and later disc brakes at all four wheels. Giulias were noted for their lively performance among sedans of that era, especially considering the modest engine size.

The performance was better than many sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The styling was quite straight forward, but with a great amount of detail. The engine bay, cabin and boot were all square shaped. But the grill, the rooflines and details on the bonnet and boot made for an integrated design from bumper to bumper. It was also a car with a particularly low drag coefficient for that era. For example, the drag coefficient of the Giulia was lower than that of a Porsche 911 from the same period. (© en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Giulia)

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta Typ 116 (here series 1 as Alfetta 1.6 (1974 - 1977) with 1570 cc / 108 hp (picture) or as Alfetta 1.8 (1972 – 1977) 1779 cc / 122 hp) is an Italian rear-wheel drive executive saloon car and fastback coupé produced from 1972 until 1987. It was popular due to its combination of a modest design with powerful engines, selling over 478’812 (in total incl. Coupé) units until the end of its production run (Alfetta series 1 1972 – 1977: 102’960 units), but in the final years its sales were down due to Alfa Romeo's reliability problems that plagued the company through the late 1970s and early 1980s.The Sedan had a body designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo, and the Alfetta GTV coupe (not to be confused with the more recent 1995 Alfa Romeo GTV, or the classic Giulia GTV), was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In Germany the Alfetta Series 1 is distinguishable at the number of headlights. The cheaper 1.6 for Germany positioned as no-frills model has single lights, the 1.8 double lights (similar to the first BMW 3series). In other markets like Belgium, where the vehicle on the shot is brought from, both versions are equipped with double lights. The new Alfa Romeo Alfetta introduced a new drivetrain layout to the market in 1972. Clutch and transmission were housed at the rear of the car, together with the differential for a more balanced weight distribution, as used on the Alfetta 158/159 Grand Prix cars. The suspension relied on double wishbones and torsion bars at the front and a de Dion beam at the rear. The rear transaxle found on the Alfetta and derivatives- GTV, 90 and 75- provided these cars with excellent weight distribution. The transaxle design, in combination with inboard rear brakes and a well-located de Dion rear suspension, resulted in excellent traction and handling. The Alfa Romeo Alfetta became well known throughout the world since it was Italian Prime Minister Aldo Moro's official escort car, when, in 1978, he was first kidnapped, then killed, by the Italian Terrorist left-wing organization The Red Brigades (Brigade rosse). A fictionalised account of these events was produced as a critically well regarded Italian film, The Advocate, which also heavily featured Alfettas of all types, e.g. Carabinieri 'Short Nose-Round Light' (© en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_Giulia). Not only because of rust and reliability problems the Alfetta sedan does not develop well as classic car in the shadow of the Coupe Alfetta GTV. In Germany and other Nothern markets may exist only a few specimens of good condition or worthwhile to restore, in the Southern markets existed too many vehicles to develop an estimable relationship (similar to German family sedans of the 70s e.g. Audi 100, Ford Taunus, Opel Rekord or Volkswagen K70) what explains why the chances in getting a collectable or restorable Alfetta Sedan series 1 in Italy are not much higher than elsewhere (several Alfetta sedan were just disembowelled for restoration of Coupe Alfetta GTV). In my opinion the Alfetta Sedan is currently the most underestimated Alfa Romeo of the classic car’ scene.

This classic car was spotted at the Meilenwerk in Berlin www.meilenwerk.de/Meilenwerk_Berlin_Wen_Sie_finden.php. Its color seems to be part of the zeitgeist of the seventies.

Sa réputation n'est plus à faire...

The Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint (1976 - 1983) or Sprint (1983 - 1987) is the Coupe-version of Alfa Romeo's compact class car Alfasud. Over 100.000 eamples were sold.

Different 4 cylinder front-engines from 1'286 cc to 1'712 cc [75 PS (55 KW) to 114 PS (84 KW)] came during production time from the Alfasud 4-door-version and later from the Alfa 33.

Until 1983 the Alfasud Sprint had chrome bumpers. In 1983 a facelift with the release of the Alfa 33 brought plastic bumpers, a different grille, and some other modifications to the front-drive Coupe renamed into Sprint.

Cloverleaf, or Quadrifoglio, badges denote high-end in comfort and engine size variants of Alfa Romeo cars.

The image first appeared in 1923 when Ugo Sivocci presented one prior to the start of the 14th Targa Florio as a good luck token to the team.

This became the symbol of competition Alfas, denoting higher performance.

Some modern Alfa Romeos wear a cloverleaf badge which is typically a green four leaf clover on a white background (Quadrifoglio Verde), but variants of blue on white have been recently observed as well.
