I also whittled up this support to help align lengths of DIN rail so that they may more quickly be fished through the matching die slots. It's not just cutting that must accelerate but feeding as well. The support also insures a square cut: I've found it's possible to feed parts at an incorrect angle given half a chance and I want to make this thing minion-proof.

I've been trying to implement my own autofocus routine for the observatory automation software I'm writing for my observatory.
It's taken several months because of the terrible weather we've had over the summer, but finally a few nights ago it worked correctly for the first time.
The reason I didn't use software such as FocusMax was partly because I didn't want to spend (waste) time writing an Ascom-compatible driver for what is a bespoke setup, and partly because I prefer to do things myself when possible :-)
There are still tweaks I want to make get the final image absolutely bang on focus, but the current method gives a final image that is within a single motor step of best focus, which is more or less focussed as the steps from the stepper motor and subsequent gearing are so small.
