Two photo's stitched together that weren't originally meant to be stitched.. a little bit of autofill, but seems reasonable.
Airglow and Milky Way reflect in a lake in California's Sierra Nevada.
Nine exposures adjusted in Adobe Lightroom, sky and landscap0e stacked. Vertical panorama, no autofill. Real reflection; no layer compositing, no Photoshop.
Thanks to David for helping out on this. Photoshop after all has a panorama merge facility that allows for vignetting and indeed offers content aware autofill. A lot easier and better than LR
11th January 2014 - Well what a trauma this image was... 8 RAW file shots taken with a Canon 60d, merging 2 at a time and then halving the file size on each photomerge and finally merging 4 shots to make this final image. Not to mention the autofill tool.. Took bloody ages (damn you 4gb RAM computer, you just weren't up to the task of merging 8 full size images!!) But i did it!!
Gorgeous Blue Sky Blue Water Day Tampa Bay At Apollo Beach Florida - IMRAN™
My days usually get spent on the computer in the home office unless I am traveling to client sites. Most days the back to back calls and workload mean I rarely get a chance to step outside and take in the many gorgeous days and views unfolding across the expanse of Tampa Bay, seen from my blessed home and boardwalk in Apollo Beach, Florida. This was a day I made it a point to step outside with the Nikon D850 and shoot a few quick pictures. This is composed of six handheld photos auto-stitched into this stunning blue and blue panorama. The original photos are SOOC (straight our of camera) and there was NO color tweaking of ANY kind done to the scene. I just used autofill for the missing pieces in the corners. These were the truly spectacular colors as I was blessed to see them, on a day when the waters of Tampa Bay have an almost Caribbean and Bahamas feel to them. I am so blessed to be able to share these with you. Keep me in your prayers as I deal with the usual ups and downs of life but remain forever grateful.

This is a composite of six iPhone 7+ photos taken from inside the upstairs bay windows on a beautiful bright day on Tampa Bay. The blue green shades become very clearly contrasting because of the shallow areas next to the deeper boating channel.
It was so bright that despite my best efforts my own T-shirt and even neck and wrist are visible in the portion of the dock. PhotoShop's Perspective Wrap feature was a great tool to make the skewed auto-merged image look more normal. AutoFill was used to fill out the pool area, which gives me a bigger swimming pool than in real life!

WEEK 32 – Kroger remodel (from Albertsons décor), Tupelo, MS
(cont.) ...so long as you use the restroom first!! Note the seal of approval atop the sign. Those are (were) littered literally everywhere throughout the store. Originally, they had the Albertsons logo; Kroger evidently special ordered a whole bunch of their own to plaster on each and every one!
Also notice the sushi sign in the bottom center, partially covered by one of Kroger's annoyingly persistent (that autofilled for me, I must have described them that way before!) blue and orange signs. Could be from Albertsons, but also seems somewhat similar to Kroger's script décor (which I may or may not have finally seen in person, and may or may not have pictures to share after this Tupelo set :P ).

The saga starts simply: On Feb. 17, 2021, Annie suffered tummy upset all day, along with loss of energy. By late afternoon, my wife had developed a fever of 37.8 degrees Celsius (100.1 Fahrenheit). Morning of the 18th, her body temperature had fallen to 37.2 C (99 F) before returning to normal and staying that way. But she felt crummy and lethargic. More worrisome: Low-grade fever is one of the signature symptoms of COVID-19—the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2).
Next day, the 19th, I felt off and started coughing; often. If not for Annie’s fever the story would end there, but the symptom shouldn’t be ignored. I checked our health insurer’s website, which indicated that COVID-19 testing would be free with a referral. Around 8 a.m., when the doctor’s office opened, I cancelled a 9 a.m. self-defense lesson with my trainer and called our physician, with whom the scheduler set up an 11 a.m. phone appointment. Who would guess problems would start there.
Failures Four
Annie took the call and explained her symptoms. The primary care doc recommended three testing sites within short driving distance. But, uh-oh: Rather than give a referral, she consulted San Diego County’s website list of free-test locations—something we could have done as easily. The nearest place caused me to chuckle: The Mexican Consulate, where I wanted to go for the sheer novelty. Unfortunately, the site was closed on Fridays. Damn.
Our next choice proved Annie right. Google Maps Street View showed an apartment building at the address. Surely that couldn’t be right, and I insisted that we drive there anyway. Yep, we arrived to find exactly what she expected—and no sign of testing anywhere. We were zero for two from the doctor’s list. The County website led us to another address just a few minutes away. We followed directions to 55th Street on the San Diego State University Campus and a COVID-19 test site without public parking; students could walk up.
Giving up, and heading home, Annie missed the highway entrance and used the mishap as opportunity to go by a back way, where we passed surprising signs for COVID-19 testing that promised results in 15 minutes. The place turned out to be a sidewalk tent with a lone technician inside. Cost: $130. No thanks. We weren’t that desperate.
Since our route had gone wayward, and I knew of a drive-up site nearby UCSD Hospital, we set off for there instead of continuing home. That’s where I captured the photo; on February 21. But two days earlier, we reached a location that was appointment-only. Annie turned the car towards our apartment.
The Mishap
I asked my wife to let me out a few kilometers from our flat, so that I could walk off the tension. She continued home, once there took a breather, and then started researching the last location on our list. Later, she met me and explained that the site was closer than we thought and was nearby the animal shelter. “Okay, let’s go!” I commanded. She wanted to wait until the next day. But I convinced her to seize the moment, and we did.
Ten minutes later, we arrived at the Linda Vista Test Site at University of San Diego, where there was plenty of parking and well-organized operation. The process started by using our smartphones to scan a QR code, which launched a webpage asking for information necessary to make an appointment—all this occurred while we proceeded through a quickly-moving, socially-distanced line. My email confirmation came before I reached the check-in station (2:54 p.m.). Annie’s confirmation did not, and we assumed that the email service she used suffered delays. Puzzled, the check-in tech verified the address and wrote down Annie’s appointment number on a card and handed it to her.
We collected two small test tubes, each with bar code and birthdate, and proceeded to testing, where I learned why people who snort cocaine have irritable, runny noses. We were each given what I would describe as a Q-Tip on-a-stick to be inserted in the right nostril until there was resistance, pulled back slightly, then rotated three times against the membranes. The experience was awful, but worse when repeated in the left nostril. My nose itched and discharged liquid for hours afterwards. Meanwhile, I pulled up my mask, which heavy sneezing spoiled—all while handing the swab stick back to the test tech for insertion, cotton-side down, into the tube.
We were told to expect results within two to four days via email, with a link to a secure webpage. Problem: Arriving home, Annie still hadn’t received her confirmation but we still had the information captured in a web browser. Looking this over, she saw the typo. Finally. Dot-Con instead of Dot-Com. How could she get her results? Mulling over that question, I looked for the source of error: Her contact card on the phone, which Safari used to autofill her otherwise correct email except for that damn Dot-Con. I fixed it.
DNA Data Miners
The next morning, I awoke to find a 3:42 a.m. email notifying that my COVID-19 pronouncement was ready—turnaround in about 12 hours; impressive. I clicked “View Your Results”, proceeded to a webpage, and continued through a security protocol that included receiving and verifying another message. Drum roll. Negative!
But what about Annie? The County staffs a help line, and I rang for assistance. The friendly agent explained that since Helix administered the test, we needed to contact the company’s offices instead. Helix? Oh my fraking freak out, not Helix. The company that claims “it’s our mission to empower every person to improve their life through DNA” sells several DNA test kits and is deeply involved in genome research.
Few years ago, I chose to throw away, rather than use, a Helix DNA kit received as a gift. Who knows where such information goes? Supposedly, with SARS-CoV-2, Helix is only looking at Coronavirus RNA, but I am too cynical a journalist to trust that. COVID-19 testing is an enormous DNA data-mining opportunity that Helix, or San Diego County, would throw away? I have evidence of nothing nefarious, and I don’t pander conspiracy theories. However, suspicion is my profession, and had I understood Helix’s role I would not have taken the test.
Back to Annie, my phoning Helix got the results. The process required her confirmation and phone numbers, birth date, and the incorrectly-provided email address. Another negative!
Are we relieved? I guess. If we ever get tested again, though, Mexican Consulate will be the place.
Oh my goodness, I'm wide awake at 3:30 am with no sign of falling back to sleep. A drink of water, some long deep breaths, and I start to nod off 10 minutes before the alarm is due to go off anyway. Oh well, I might as well start the day. I put some work into finishing off my March yoga newsletter. I get to the point where I like it, a lot in fact, so I schedule it to be sent out Friday morning. Work. The first day all week that is not filled with exhausting conversations. I end up getting things done! Lunch time yoga to teach. We do lots of twisting including a little version of sun salutes I've become partial to this week. I also make use of all the chairs stacked along the wall in the conference room. I'm sure people's feet are impeccably clean. My workplace classes are by donation and this month I raised $110 for the American Heart Association's Go Red for Women campaign. That makes my heart smile. After work it is happy hour with colleagues. The turnout is poor. I'm not sure how to change that. Regardless I have fun, try a new beer, eat some wings and fries. Home involves a detour. The police have part of the road blocked off. When I finally arrive back at my door I'm starting to get text messages from my sister. Our back and forth has me laughing so hard that pants could be peed. One exchange comes thanks to autofill, a confusion between locked and kicked. We decide to FaceTime. The girls are having their nightly dance party. The baby starts clothed and by the end is running around in her diaper. She's also trying to stick things into her diaper. That sets off another laughing fit. My sister says she keeps finding things she's shoved down her onesie. Oh, the logic of babies. And finally into bed.
Not a clue as to where exactly this was. Clearly somewhere near Bramber Castle but it's an area I know fairly well and cannot think where this was situated.

You can clear your History, Cookies, or Cache to save space on your iPhone but more importantly for privacy measures. What's missing? The Autofill data and Password storage. Why? Because it doesn't store them! Annoyingly, but securely, you'll have to type these in every single time you enter an encrypted web page that requires a log-in… Yay! (This does not apply to Mail's email downloading though; you won't have to retype your password every time, it stores that. Thankfully.

harvardcollegeyale: medievalpoc: Caravaggio The Incredulity of Saint Thomas Italy (c.1601) Oil on Canvas, 107 cm × 146 cm. Sanssouci Palace Museum, Germany Since Caravaggio’s paintings are all about lighting, contrast, and of course, chiaroscuro, different photographs of the same painting can look rather different. In any American art history or history of Western Civ classroom, you’re practically guaranteed to hear of and see works from Caravaggio. But this work is less likely to be seen in PowerPoints and textbooks as an example because it includes a man whose race appears ambiguous to Americans-the man with brown skin who represents one of the Apostles accompanying Doubting Thomas to examine the wounds of Christ. Here is an image from caravaggio.org of people viewing the painting in a museum, to hopefully offset the illusion that any one specific photograph can capture its colors and contrasts perfectly. We are encouraged to assume that because he is “from history” he must therefore be white; he is white because he is from history.Sometimes we are even prompted to imagine the people in these paintings as someone we know, perhaps they look like us, or a relative of ours. But if the works we see are limited to only white or white-appearing people, how does this affect our sense of identity and connection to history? Are students of color discouraged from identifying with the people in paintings like this one, and why or why not? Further analysis and examination in this direction is discouraged in most classroom environments and disciplines, although this is beginning to change. My focus is on examining our expectations of these works, and how we as viewers categorize and identify with the people depicted in them. “But this work is less likely to be seen in PowerPoints and textbooks“ LOLWUT, go right ahead presenting this painting as some ~obscure~ artwork. I’m amused at this, just because you’re assuming that every person in the world, or in the U.S. particularly, has even heard of Caravaggio. I’ve actually gotten a few more replies to this post that have a problem with that particular line. I don’t think I’ve seen a textbook with that painting in particular in it as an example of Caravaggio’s work, although I imagine there are a few that exist. But I’ve read, seen, and processed/edited a LOT of textbooks. And powerpoints. And handouts. And entire undergraduate art history and history of western civ curricula, assigned reading, syllabi, and online modules. But that is MY personal experience, right? And we’re all individuals. But hey, the idea here is to doubt, right? Don’t take my word for it. Let’s see, what is something accessible to most of the people reading this, that can be measured and analyzed? Alright, how about a google search for “Caravaggio painting”? He’s famous enough that google will autofill artworks at the top of the search. Hmm, doesn’t seem to be there yet. Let’s scroll a little more, cause we’re really, super interested, right? We’re not gonna just grab the very first painting we see for our school project, we’re being diligent. Not yet… Hmm…. ^ oh, there it is. 28 images in. Good thing we were looking for it specifically, so we’re definitely gonna click that one to get a better look, but first let’s check out something else. Let’s go back and have a gander at the Caravaggio Wikipedia page, which is the first web link that shows up for “Caravaggio” in a google search, because we wanna learn more. The page has 19 paintings on it as examples of Caravaggio’s work beside the text, like this: None of those paintings are The Incredulity of Saint Thomas. You see, this post isn’t about what a given individual may or may not know. It’s about what we are encouraged to look at, how we define our sense of aesthetics, and how this is affected by the society and culture we live in. MPOC is meant to be accessible and enjoyable even to people who don’t care too terribly much about art history from an academic perspective, or have any interest in academia in and of itself. History is important, even to people who aren’t historians, and have no plans to become one. In fact, a lot of people who don’t have much interest in higher education enjoy doing google searches and reading Wikipedia articles to learn more about something that catches their fancy, as a hobby or just a way to relax. But for the casual learner, are they getting the tip of an iceberg, and what exactly rises to the top? What are we encouraged to look at and learn? Google searches can be rather revealing once you start to really analyze and consider what kind of “default” results you get. For example, consider the World White Web project begun by Swedish Graphic Design student Johanna Burai: “This work started when I searched for ‘hand’ on Google and the search results showed only white hands,” Burai wrote on her portfolio website. “Then I noticed that the themes of white hands were recurring every time I visited a portfolio or blog about graphic design.” Burai’s campaign aims to add more diverse images featuring people of color in searches like “hands,” “legs” and other body parts. Currently, when a user searches for a hand they’ll get hundreds of results of white hands. In order to get a different skin color users have to be more specific and include other keywords like, “African” or “Latin.” Burai uploaded six different non-white hands to her online campaign site that can be shared on all social media platforms. Burai said the more people share the images on her site, the higher the ranking they’ll be on Google, and the higher the probability of coming up as a top result when people search for “hand.” Speaking of what images are available for use by creative types, consider the need for Mosaic Stock, a stock image company that focuses on providing more diverse images of people for book covers: Mosaic is a stock photography site created by an author, for authors, publishers, and cover artists. After years of frustration over the lack of diversity on stock photography sites, romance author Elise Marion (who also pens young adult novels under the pseudonym Alicia Michaels), decided that the void needed to be filled. After all, if she were frustrated with the lack of diversity, there must be other authors, publishers, and cover artists out there feeling the same frustration. With that in mind, Mosaic will team up with photographers and models to provide quality images for use on book covers, websites, and other media pertaining to books. By not following trends, or the status quo, we hope to offer something new and fresh for the publishing market: models that portray our world realistically by incorporating people of all races, sizes, and backgrounds. You see, it’s not *only* about certain images being actively kept hidden, or when people of color are cropped out of images in textbooks and powerpoint slides; it’s not only about paintings including people of color having the PoC painted over, or when a masterpiece featuring a Black man sits moldering in a basement for centuries because racist art historians believe it has no value. It’s ALSO about what we are and are not subtly encouraged to value, to deem as “more beautiful”, what traits are seen as desirable and “good”. Believing that your individual preferences and sense of aesthetics are formed in some kind of sociocultural vacuum, completely unaffected by the people around you and the media you consume, is foolishness. We’re all affected by the society we live in, including how we react to its norms and dictates. Even our color choices and preferences are affected by culture, politics, and history. So, no, The Incredulity of Saint Thomas isn’t a particularly “obscure” artwork to art history buffs, art historians, or people who have a persistent, research-based interest in Caravaggio. The internet is an amazing thing, with more information available than any one person could hope to ever absorb. But how is this knowledge curated? What arrows point us in our next direction? What are we encouraged to value, and what are we subtly encouraged to devalue? I mean, it’s all well and good to scoff and dismiss what I’m saying as some kind of flim-flam, and you can do that. In fact, you just did. Or you could listen, and wonder, and inquire, and think about whatever neatly labeled box this work occupies in your headspace, and consider revisiting it, like it was completely new to you. Analyze it. Appreciate it. Love it, and think about what it means to you, and what it could mean to other people. Because I’m not here to make fun of people who’ve never heard of Caravaggio, or never seen this particular painting. I’m thrilled, I’m excited, and I share that joy and that newness. I’m working against the cynical hoarding of knowledge, and the smug and supercilious manner in which it is often disseminated. I want to help others feel empowered to look into things on their own, to feel entitled to grasp knowledge for themselves, and to trust their own, internal Doubting Thomas that might wonder if what everyone “just knows” about the supposedly ubiquitous whiteness of history is closer to a fantasy than we’ve been told.

Two of my iPods placed over photos of a Shuffle and Nano in the book, "Designing Interactions." Designing Interactions was written by Bill Moggridge. I highly recommend this book if you enjoy reading about hight tech objects.
From the original Apple press releases for the Shuffle and Nano:
Shuffle....
Apple Introduces iPod shuffle
First iPod Under $100
MACWORLD EXPO, SAN FRANCISCO—January 11, 2005—Apple® today introduced iPod® shuffle, a breakthrough digital music player based on iPod’s legendary shuffle feature which lets users experience their music in a million different ways. Smaller and lighter than a pack of gum, iPod shuffle comes with its own lanyard so it’s ready to wear right out of the box. iPod shuffle works seamlessly with iTunes’ innovative AutoFill feature which automatically selects songs from a user’s music library to fill up iPod shuffle with just one click. iPod shuffle is the most affordable iPod ever and is available in two models: 512MB holding up to 120 songs for just $99 and 1GB holding up to 240 songs for just $149.
“iPod shuffle is smaller and lighter than a pack of gum and costs less than $100,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “With most flash-memory music players users must use tiny displays and complicated controls to find their music; with iPod shuffle you just relax and it serves up new combinations of your music every time you listen.”
Nano....
Apple Introduces iPod nano
SAN FRANCISCO—September 7, 2005—Apple® today introduced the iPod® nano, a revolutionary full-featured iPod that holds 1,000 songs yet is thinner than a standard #2 pencil and less than half the size of competitive players. The iPod nano features an ultra-portable, lightweight design with a gorgeous color screen, Apple’s patent pending Click Wheel and the ability to hold 1,000 songs or 25,000 photos. iPod nano works seamlessly with the iTunes® Music Store, the world’s number one digital music service. The iPod nano is available immediately in a 4GB model priced at just $249 and a 2GB model priced at just $199, with both models available in stunning white or black designs.
“iPod nano is the biggest revolution since the original iPod,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPod nano is a full-featured iPod in an impossibly small size, and it’s going to change the rules for the entire portable music market.”

Screen cap from a video I took of some dude partaking in a litle "Powered Paragliding" as it's apparently called, at Hollywood Beach - 12.5.12
I don't know, this was just so trippy to see. Totally fly like a bird. I'm surprised this shit is legal! O.o Seriously.... If you've never seen it, basically it's a free flying paragliding. You sit in this motorized contraption and just....fly around. It makes a really loud motorized whirring noise that you can hear coming up the beach. The guy flying was swinging his legs a little as he flew like he was riding in a ski lift or something. :D
Then again it doesn't surprise me that this is legal here, because if there's one thing nobody could accuse Florida of being, it's having a "nanny state" mentality. Here, anything goes. You want drive around on a motorcycle or a bicycle without a helmet, smoke in restaurants, have a full on fireworks show in your backyard on New Year's and July 4th, sit in the open bed of a pickup truck racing down the road, get into a motorized paraglider and free fly around to who knows where.......then go for it, because unlike how it is in other "nanny" states you're responsible for your own safety here. :D I love it.
At first I was thinking it could be kind of fun to try something like this............then I started looking up vids on YouTube. It's kinda telling when you go to type in "Powered Paragliding" and the autofill function fills in "Powered Paragliding Crashes" for you. :D Next thing you know Tom and I were watching all these hang gliding and powered paragliding accident vids. Some of them were pretty comical, so Tom had the idea to load up the song "Yakety Sax" (benny hill) and watch them with that particular soundtrack. Highly recommended. ;) But some of them were kind of scary, as apparently a big risk in this sport is that the parachutes are very vulnerable to sudden wind loss. The whole thing will just....collapse....and down you go, crashing to the ground. No thanks. !!!
