Tomorrow, the Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing will be opened. There has been a lot of discussion about the meaningfulness of this event, being held in times of pandemic, in an autocratic country that tramples human rights underfoot, and in the presence of a threat of war between Russia and Ukraine.

Olympic ideals and values seem to apply to athletes only, the main purpose is about big money and state propaganda.

Is the Olympic idea starting to starting to dissolve - as the 5 rings in this image do... ?

I have always been touched by the tragic story of the Romanovs and fascinated by the history of the Czars. The Romanov family reigned from 1613 to 1917.

Anastasia was only 17 when she was executed/ murdered with her parents, three older sisters and little brother, in the basement of Ipatiev House by the Bolshevik revolutionaries under Yakov Yurovsky. They were shot and bayonetted to death.

After the revolution of 1917 which deposed him, Czar Nicholas appealed for asylum from his English cousin who later became King George V, but he was refused, supposedly for political reasons. This sealed the family's fate. To Communists the Romanov family were symbols of a decadent and oppressive autocratic regime and as such they were held prisoners in Siberia for more than a year before the decision was made to brutally murder them. it is believed Lenin ordered the execution.

After the fall of Communism the remains of five family members and four loyal retainers were finally found in the nearby Koptyaki forest and buried with ceremony in St. Petersburg in 1998. The two remaining children were found in 2007. All were identified by Dna thus putting to rest the stories that any may have escaped, especially Anastasia.

They were all declared holy martyrs and saints by the Russian Orthodox church. The Church of All Saints was erected on the former site of Ipatiev House..

The Singing Bridge or Congosto in the locality of Lozoya, its origins are uncertain, shuffling two possibilities, that is of Roman time or of medieval time.

Located in the municipal area of Lozoya, in the Sierra Norte de Madrid, it saves a narrow and deep gorge cut into the rocks downstream from the Pinilla Reservoir by the erosive force of the waters of the Lozoya River. It is a construction that serves to illustrate the medieval legal entities represented by the Society of Quiñones and the Sexmo de Lozoya.

The place-name Lozoya, which gives its name to a valley, a river and a population, seems to come from the augmentative term Loza, oza, osa, which means pasture in the Basque dialect of Gipuzkoa.

It seems that among the hosts of Alfonso VI who occupied the Lozoya valley, people from the north of the peninsula, mainly Asturian-Leonese and Basque people, came. It was they who populated or repopulated the valley, and gave name to the place: LOZOIHA.

The valley was disputed for a long time by Segovia and Madrid. It was managed by the so-called "Society of Quinones", dependent on the Council of Segovia, and that forced those who settled in these lands "to build a house and own their own horse that was worth 200 maravedis and served to grab and carry spear". It seems that there already existed in the area many peasants and knights were needed to defend the area. Los Quiñones de Lozoya are the antecedents of the current municipalities of the valley. They were integrated into the Community of Tierras de Segovia and defended their agricultural interests as a community. All the inhabitants of the valley had the same rights and were subject to the same laws and judges charged with administering the same justice for all.

The councils represented by the Quiñones were subject to Lozoya, and managed to become independent from their jurisdiction in the last years of the reign of the Catholic Monarchs, who tried to control the vast autonomous power of the municipalities through the "corregimientos". The legal figure that gives life to the corregimientos is the "corregidor", a supervisor of the King, who directs the destinies of the municipality next to the mayor. The corregidor comes to acquire such power and importance with the passage of time, which shifts from its functions to the town councils elected by the people, becoming the concejil power, from democratic to autocratic, since the corregidor's approval was needed in any decision Take the town hall.

Autocrats, dictators, and kasperles continue to rule the world, "heavy rain" still falls on Gaza and Ukraine, while in Sudan people are eating animal feed and I long to be far away in the desert.

The City of The Dome - The Guardians Of The Soul by Daniel Arrhakis (2021)

With the music : M83 - Waking Up (Oblivion Soundtrack)

youtu.be/UoEAMCz-UXM

The Cities of The Domes, initially built to protect us from solar radiation that reached extreme values as well as the great millennial storms that devastated the Earth due to climate change were now used for the surveillance of all citizens.

The anarchist and revolutionary groups revolted against the new Cloud Governments of Autocratic ideology that kept the peoples under a regime of constant surveillance and censorship of social communications networks.

Everything was controlled and predicted through navigation records, consumption habits, social and movement patterns. Large corporations dictated the prices of our lives and who deserved to live or die.

Cults and Artistic or Mystical Orders were constantly monitored and, although tolerated, became increasingly uncomfortable as they often contradicted the State's Political Thought Standard and challenged the instituted social order.

We were, however, "The Others" that in the light we observed, recorded patterns and collected data. During the night we acted and met as brothers who swore to defend Freedom, Humanity and their mystical values, but mainly the most unprotected and persecuted.

They called us "The Guardians of the Night" but we would like to consider ourselves more like "The Guardians of the Soul". Our objective - To restore the old traditions, the old arts and crafts but mainly to restore the ancestral mystical balance of Man with Nature in Freedom and Tolerance towards all creeds, religions, sexual orientation and races.

And to achieve our goal, the two mystical orders that had existed in the past were recreated: The Militar Order of The Silver Orchid and the Order Of The Golden Orchid.

The first, in the Past was a Military Order of fearless and courageous warriors who protected the innocent against Tyrant Lords, their symbol a silver orchid that they wore always around their necks.

His mystic faith was governed by Dharyehl's Commandments, the death of usurpers and tyrants their primary mission ...

At the top command of the order of the warriors are Mystic and Powerful Guardians, Masters that moving in the shadow disguised among the multitude, versing various arts.

His ability to disguise was accompanied by very singular energies and powers, telepathic, intuitive mediumship and manipulation of the primordial elements without neglecting the study of the arts of body fighting, sword and bow.

Yet in their commandments is not permitted the use of firearms.

Their costume, although sometimes diverse, is marked by the simplicity, of a dark color, the use of covers and hoods, an ornamental cane hides an often deadly sword.

Body cleansing and fasting are often accompanied by prayers and meditation and are one of the daily duties of the Guardians of the Golden Orchid

Good Friday continues throughout the centuries in the battlefields and multitudes senseless deaths, and now, in the killing of Ukrainian civilians.

Will we ever learn?

Is it ever finished?

And how ironic, the Orthodox patriarch of Moscow, worth millions BTW, encouraged Russian men to go fight in Ukraine as a way of saving their souls from hell! And what a hellscape they've created there. How Christian are the Russian soldiers raping Ukrainian women, children and men?

And how ironic that there are those in the West who see Russia as a paragon of "Faith, Family & Freedom" and therefore think "Christian" Russia is justified in fighting in Ukraine supposedly to make it "Christian" (again. i.e., autocratic???), even though 85% of Ukrainians are Christian, as opposed to a far lesser number in Russia claiming to be Christian.

What insanity on the part of religion! Continuing to 'crucify' others supposedly in the name of the Crucified One.

...and that was enough for these ancient Greek philosophers to create "The Democracy :)

Although today - if never flawless - the best of all forms of society, it is again in trouble.

The shadows of dictators, autocrats and extreme right-wing governments threaten to swallow it up.

Street and reportage photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

Captured in April 2019, this young person was counter protesting, amongst others, to a group who were holding an 'anti abortion' rally in George Square, Glasgow.

Yesterday the United Kingdom Government were praising the brave protests by Russian people in Russia. Anti war protests all across Russian cities were resulting in people being arrested and facing up to 5 years in prison. At the same time the United Kingdom Government voted through a new Police and Crime Bill which will remove our own democratic right to protest. It would see anything deemed as 'noisy protest' being given prison sentences of up to 10 years. Let that sink in.

Make no mistake that such a bill is an affront to the democratic right to protest. Protest is essential in a free and fair democracy. Without protest you have an autocracy that can further remove your rights and freedoms and you will have no power to demand otherwise.

We now, once again, rely on the House of Lords, an unelected body, to vote down the bill in order to preserve our democracy. The irony of this is not lost on me.

The world is seeing attacks on democracy from autocrats and dictators but also seeing attacks on democracy from within the very seat of democracy itself. Insanity abounds.

Stay safe my Flickr friends.

"SHADHINOTA is My Cause for the 40th Celebration of BANGLADESH Independence. The land, the mighty rivers and the natural beauty makes Bangladesh a land of unparalleled splendor and magnificence. Bangladesh was liberated after a prolonged war of Independence the declaration of which was given on 26th MARCH 1971. One of the worst genocides Genocide in history took place at the behest of an autocratic regime in the name of Political stability spearheaded by the then Pakistan President Yah ya Khan. After 9 months of Liberation, water and the sacrifice of 3 million lives Victory came. In addition to the loss of lives, countless others were rendered homeless, the infrastructure including roads and bridges and factories lay in ruins. The people of Bangladesh have shown time and again how resilient they are. After each and every disaster, natural or man-made the people have again stood up and started all over again from scratch.

My Effort here is to pay tribute to the valiant sons of the soil and the ‘die hard’ attitude of a people who can still smile in the face of adversity, however, great it may be.

To be Continued till 26th March 2011

It's hard to put into words the dismay one feels after seeing the events in Washington last night A demagogue incites and then condones a mob who attack his own seat of government and constitution . The only people who will have enjoyed watching the scenes of American carnage will be the autocratic leaders in the world opposed to democratic governance . It was in some ways the logical conclusion of four years of lies conspiracy and the deliberate stoking of division .

While the inside of this Baptistery is breathtaking its exterior is I believe also quite remarkable particularly when one remembers it was constructed in the 5th century.

At the top of the comments is an interior shot of part of the mosaics in the chapels ceiling .

The Baptistery of Neon is a Roman religious building in Ravenna, Italy. The most ancient monument remaining in the city, it was partly erected on the site of a Roman bath. The octagonal brick structure was erected during the late Western Roman Empire by Bishop Ursus at the end of the 4th or beginning of the 5th century, as part of his great Basilica (destroyed in 1734). The baptistery was finished by Bishop Neon at the end of the 5th century, at which time the mosaic decorations were added. The original floor is now some 3 meters underground, so the proper structure and extent of the building can no longer be seen. The octagonal design of the building, employed in virtually all Early Christian baptisteries, symbolises the seven days of the week plus the Day of the Resurrection and Eternal Life.

THANKS FOR YOUR VISITING BUT CAN I ASK YOU NOT TO FAVE AN IMAGE WITHOUT ALSO MAKING A COMMENT. MANY THANKS KEITH.

Anonymously captured in May 2017 and previously unpublished. I had arrived to what sounded like a woman being assaulted and a police officer rushing from his parked car. I was pleased that I had not arrived sooner to the location for fear that I would have simply had to have intervened!

Today, following devastating local elections for The Conservative Party, the State Opening of Parliament took place. HRH The Prince of Wales read a speech written by The Government in respect to their coming bills and actions for this session of government.

Laws previously rejected by The Lords for being too draconian are now back on the agenda. Bills set to make protesting ever more illegal. Once those are through there will be bills to reduce your basic human rights. The European Court of Human Rights will still be an option above and beyond the UK law but only for the very wealthy, there will be no legal aid to go beyond UK law. New bills are coming to alter electoral processes and the scope of areas, which follow on from a law already passed to remove independence from the Electoral Commission. Elections will be overseen by the Government in power.

When the Tory Government start stripping rights that mean something to you and they have already removed your legal right to protest against them, please don't start crying saying that you didn't see it coming.

Make no mistake - these are dark times. We have a populist autocratic Government bent on lies, cover ups and avoidance of accountability. We are on the verge of an elected dictatorship and our media are powerless as they are controlled by the Tory party or major donors to the Tory party. Well, aside from Channel 4 which is why the Tories want to sell it off!

Dark times. More police powers are coming. Fewer rights. Fewer freedoms. Less opportunity to affect change through voting. This is how Germany tumbled in the 1930s.

Colour re-edit of a shot from February 2019.

Last night, on the 27th April 2022, democracy ended in the United Kingdom.

This may sound melodramatic but if you consider the consequences for just a moment, the reality is nothing short of horrifying.

The UK Conservative Government have passed a number of bills through the House of Lords, after a number of attempts, where few opposition peers turned up late at night and these bills will receive automatic Royal Ascent today during the pre-election Proroguing of Parliament.

A new police and crime bill passed on 26th April that makes 'noisy protest' illegal and this includes any protest found to be disruptive. A right to peaceful (as in non-violent) protest is essential to a functional democracy.

A new elections bill passed on the 27th April that means that all voters now need to provide photographic I.D., excluding even myself from voting now as well as millions of others. In addition, and more worryingly, the bill allows the Conservative Government to control the Electoral Commission - the independent body that impartially protects the integrity of our elections, and democracy, will now be completely under the control of the current Government.

While our mainstream media is distracted by the 'dead cat' Tory sleaze stories of misogyny and MPs watching porn in the House of Commons, they are completely ignoring these new autocratic laws. Of course, the mainstream media is majority owned by Tory donors or run by Tory stooges. No wonder they wish to sell off Channel 4, the only television channel still holding Government to account.

Anyone wondering how the people of Germany allowed the country to slide into Fascist rule in the 1930s need look no further.

First they control the media, then they get away with breaking laws and telling lies with impunity. The sleaze and 'dead cat' stories then distract while laws and polices are pushed through that erode democracy. Oh, and the current Government are already scapegoating a couple of minority groups into 'the enemy' as well. Laws affecting these are already in place and more are planned. If you look deeper than the headlines you will see more in common with 1930s Germany than you would care to imagine. Ah, 'but we don't have concentration camps' you may say - well the bill making it possible for the Government to remove asylum seekers to Rwanda was also passed last night. Think these asylum seekers are all just 'economic migrants'? Think again. Any one of us is just one disaster away from becoming asylum seekers ourselves.

We now live in an elected dictatorship.

One more from the show to celebrate the fall of the 30-year long autocratic regime in Maldives.

Focus is a bit messed up but I like it.

A new Gothic Sci-Fi Surrealistic series " The Chronicles Of Antheogh " for 2023

Let me introduce myself... my name is Eodhys, one of the last interpreters who still knows about the Chronicles of Antheogh, a lost world in the Akhromera Nebula which is now ruled by an autocratic technological elite.

Those who survived or managed to escape the planetary repression now live mainly on artificial moons, hidden worlds and exploratory stations like the one from I tell you this story .

Bionic technology evolved thanks to large corporations like Tasseldarth but also brought new threats with the growth of organized mercenary groups paid for by omnipresent tycoons and unscrupulous dictators - The Lords Of Antheogh. So no one is safe despite this vast Universe.

The space ships of lawless robbers and bounty hunters thus pursue the last strongholds of those who managed to escape and those who resisted. Some of us now live among bionic bodies and virtual models as we help their original human communities to resist to the last Lords of Antheogh.

The truth is that we will need everyone...

Excerpt from hedebosti.dk:

The Royal Palace was built so that the king could have a stable place to spend the night traveling through the country - especially when he had to visit his ancestors' graves in Roskilde Cathedral.

Originally, there was a bishop's courtyard from the 12th century until the Reformation in 1536, where the Palace is located today. After this, the farm became the official residence of the sheriff, and it changed its name from Bispegården to Roskildegård. In 1660 the king introduced autocracy, and two years later the so-called counties were replaced by the counties. The gradually dilapidated farm then became a county manor.

In 1733, the county manor was demolished, and the king had the only 27-year-old court builder Laurids de Thura build the buildings we know today as the Palace. The intention of the new mansion was to give the king and his entourage a place to stay when they were in transit or participated in ceremonies in Roskilde Cathedral, which is the burial church of the Danish kings and queens.

At the beginning of the 19th century, the democracy movements in Europe grew, which also affected the political development in Denmark. The autocratic king, Frederik VI, established the advisory estate assemblies by decree of 15 May 1834, and in the years leading up to the introduction of the constitution in 1849, the Palace was the meeting place of the estates' estate assembly.

When the new constitution was introduced in 1849, the estate assemblies lapsed. After this, Stændersalen was transformed into an apartment where various prominent people, including Holger Drachmann, have lived. From 1923, the Palace became a bishop's residence again - however, in 1981 the bishop moved to the east wing.

In addition, in the buildings today you can find a diocesan office and two art galleries. The Museum of Contemporary Art in the Palace's main building was founded in 1991 and was recognized by the state in 1994. Roskilde Art Association was founded in 1940 and has been housed in the palace's west wing since 1991.

Contrasts abound at this time: political change, social upheaval, and an ongoing pandemic. In the past few weeks we’ve witnessed popular repudiation of a would-be autocrat, a nation forced to leave a grand alliance, stark examples of racist behavior, and spikes in infections and deaths from COVID19 while its vaccine is rolled out (at least in the developed world). With so much happening so quickly it’s hard to take it all in and digest the reality and implications of these changes. Most indications however are that the light will be brighter in the next few years.

The sun sinks into the crook of a cottonwood tree with its light sparkling in the leaves above on the shortest day of the year, with a mountain wave cloud overhead and Saturn and Jupiter merging in the sky above, sights that bring out hopeful thoughts.

PREFACE

"SHADHINOTA is My Cause for the 40th Celebration of BANGLADESH Independence. The land, the mighty rivers and the natural beauty makes Bangladesh a land of unparalleled splendor and magnificence. Bangladesh was liberated after a prolonged war of Independence the declaration of which was given on 26th MARCH 1971. One of the worst genocides Genocide in history took place at the behest of an autocratic regime in the name of Political stability spearheaded by the then Pakistan President Yah ya Khan. After 9 months of Liberation war and the sacrifice of 3 million lives Victory came. In addition to the loss of lives countless others were rendered homeless, the infrastructure including roads and bridges and factories lay in ruins. The people of Bangladesh have shown time and again how resilient they are. After each and every disaster, natural or man-made the people have again stood up and started all over again from scratch.

My Effort here is to pay tribute to the valiant sons of the soil and the ‘die hard’ attitude of a people who can still smile in the face of adversity however great it may be. I plan to make a collage of images that represent the lives of the people of Bangladesh. I encourage you to upload a photo each day till I have a total of 40 images for the Cause SHADHINOTA in the group Frame BANGLADESH"

On Narodni Street in Prague there is a bronze plaque 'showing hands reaching out from the wall, dated 17.11.1989, the date of the Velvet Revolution: this memorial is to the students who were attacked and beaten by the communist police desperately trying to hold on to power eight days after the fall of the Berlin Wall – the day 41 years of communist rule came to an end, and Czechoslovakia became the Czech Republic. 17th November is a national holiday in the Czech Republic.'

This serves as a timely reminder to do everything we can to preserve the peace that many of us (perhaps) take for granted and is increasingly under threat by a growing number of autocrats who threaten the very idea of democracy.

The Trocadéro, site of the Palais de Chaillot, is an area of Paris, France, in the 16th arrondissement, across the Seine from the Eiffel Tower. The hill of the Trocadéro is the hill of Chaillot, a former village.

Trocadero is an island inside the Bay of Cadiz, in the South of Spain, bordering the Spanish mainland. Nowadays, it is connected to Cadiz by the bridge that goes across the bay. Originally, the name trocadero refers to an emporium or place of trade. In the Battle of Trocadero, the fortified position was captured by French forces led by the Duc d'Angoulême, son of the future king, Charles X, on August 31, 1823. France had intervened on behalf of King Ferdinand VII of Spain, whose rule was contested by a liberal rebellion. Trocadero restored the autocratic Spanish Bourbon Ferdinand VII to the throne of Spain, in an action that defined the Restauration. The Battle of Trocadero was particularly bloody. Spanish liberal army were into a hind of entrenchment at Cortadura de San José,(Puerto Real) which actually placed at Parque Metropolitano Marismas de Los Toruños y Pinar de La Algaida. Cortadura means a channel of sea water those communicates two different maritime channels. At the opposite side of the channel, spanish "voluntaries" build a fort, using sacks of sand which were placed at a artificial rampart. As the fort was taken because of the brave of French Soldier and Cádiz was surrender after a couple of months, the Victory was largely celebrated at France.

Today the square is officially named Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre, although it is usually simply called the Place du Trocadéro.

(Antonio Villalpando, as Cultural Heritage Advisory of Red de Parques Metropolitanos de Andalucia reviewed this article)

The hill of Chaillot was first arranged for the 1867 World's Fair. For the 1878 World's Fair, the (old) Palais du Trocadéro was built here (where meetings of international organizations could be held during the fair). The palace's form was that of a large concert hall with two wings and two towers; its style was a mixture of exotic and historical references, generally called "Moorish" but with some Byzantine elements. The architect was Gabriel Davioud. The concert hall contained a large organ built by Aristide Cavaillé-Coll; the first large organ to be installed in a concert hall in France (it has since been modified twice, and eventually moved in 1977 to the Auditorium Maurice Ravel in Lyon, where is still in use today). The building proved unpopular, although the cost expended in its construction delayed its replacement for nearly fifty years.

Below the building in the space left by former underground quarries, a large aquarium was built to contain fish of French rivers. It was renovated in 1937 but closed again for renovation from 1985 until May 22, 2006[1]. The space between the palais and the Seine is set with gardens, designed by Jean-Charles Alphand, and an array of fountains.

Within its garden, the old palace contained two large animal statues, of a rhinoceros and an elephant, which were removed and stored during the demolition of the old Trocadero palace, and have been located next to the entrance of the Musée d'Orsay since 1986.

The insane autocrat in Washington wants to distract from domestic political problems - and desperately wants the Nobel Peace Prize – so he calls the familiar Russian demands his peace plan – and makes Ukraine and Europe victims of the aggressor Putin. And in doing so, he betrays everything that the USA has long fought for and committed itself to.

I had already posted the cartoons, but due to current events, I'm repeating them...

1913 Type 22 Bugatti Torpedo raceabout. The earliest Bugatti I have ever seen, and restored better, I suspect, than original.....and I approve. Exquisite car and engine, and this is the first time I have uploaded 2 images at once.

Ettore Bugatti was born in Milan, Italy, and the automobile company that bears his name was founded in 1909 in Molsheim located in the Alsace region which was part of the German Empire from 1871 to 1919. So the very Italian, self taught engineering magician, from a very artistic family, started his operation in a German province, that was ceded to France after WW I, and became a quintessential French aristocratic Autocrat (dictator in his small world) When he died in 1947, the company died with him, though they did make a feeble attempt to survive through 1950 with a new model. Only 8,000 cars were made in that just over 40 years, so each is very precious. Enjoy this enlarged for details, and the details of the engine in the next image.

I am a bit pre-occupied with the fire in Sonoma County, which is currently only about 6 miles from my place. We were 'prescient' in evacuating to Mexico a week and 1/2 before the actual evacuation order. The Morgan is probably safe at the British Garage where it is getting some repairs, but we may return to????a moon scape.

I had better go find the Tequila....just a sip......or 2.......sigh .

I couldn't do anything if I was there, but run for my life, so I am in a que sera sera realistic mood. The fire can't burn our memories.

One of the worst genocides Genocide in history took place at the behest of an autocratic regime in the name of Political stability spearheaded by the then Pakistan President Yah ya Khan. After 9 months of Liberation water and the sacrifice of 3 million lives Victory came.

To be Continued till 26th March 2011

The place was named in honour of the Battle of Trocadero,

in which the fortified Isla del Trocadero, in southern Spain, was captured by French forces led by the Duc d'Angoulême, son of the future king, Charles X, on August 31, 1823. France had intervened on behalf of King Ferdinand VII of Spain, whose rule was contested by a liberal rebellion. After the battle, the autocratic Spanish Bourbon Ferdinand VII was restored to the throne of Spain.

Chateaubriand said "To stride across the lands of Spain at one go, to succeed there, where Bonaparte had failed, to triumph on that same soil where the arms of the fantastic man suffered reverses, to do in six months what he couldn't do in seven years, that was truly prodigious!".

Today the square is officially named Place du Trocadéro et du 11 Novembre, although it is usually simply called the Place du Trocadéro.
