In 1835, Berwick was told that its prison in the Town Hall was unsuitable and needed to be replaced. It took sometime to find a site, agree on plans and raise the money to do this. However, this project finally came to fruition with the opening of this building in Wallace Green in 1849 as a Prison. It's history as a prison was relatively short lived as it closed in 1878. However, having cost so much to build, a new use had to be found for it. Initially it was used as a Court house and by Berwick's Police Force, but then in the early 1890s it was purchased by Berwick's
Urban Sanitary Authority, it was converted to office
accommodation and stables were built on the back of the site. A plaque above the main door commemorates the completion of this work in 1892. From then until 2009, the building was used a Council administrative buildings, being eventually sold after 2015 to a local developer, who has converted it to four properties, retaining many of its original features, including some of the prison cells on the top floor.

Das Salzamt war früher eine Behörde, die den Salzabbau und dessen Handel verwaltete. Seit über 200 Jahren gibt es diese Behörde allerdings nicht mehr. Geblieben ist aber die Redewendung, "Beschwere dich doch beim Salzamt" - also bei diesem nicht mehr existierenden Amt, womit die Aussichtslosigkeit von vornherein klar ist !! 😂 Heute gibt es noch ein Lokal namens Salzamt am Ruprechtsplatz.

The salt authority used to be an authority that administered salt mining and its trade. This authority has no longer existed for over 200 years, in fact. What has remained is the saying, "Why don't you complain to the Salt Authority" - i.e. to this no longer existing authority, where the hopelessness is clear from the outset !! 😂 Today there is still a locality called 'Salzamt' on Ruprechtsplatz.

Mynydd Mawr is a mountain in Eryri/Snowdonia approximately 7 km west of Yr Wyddfa/Snowdon itself and overlooking Llyn Cwellyn and being the northern outlier of the Moel Hebog group. A popular ascent starts from Rhyd Ddu. On its western flank are the remains of ancient settlements and field systems.

These buildings of the Augsburg revenue and customs authorities erected in the years 1953-54 are a beautiful example of the city's post-war architecture. The predecessor buildings had been destroyed during the bombing raid of 25/26 February 1944.
Finally, Port Authority's "glorious boondoggle" may finally get the ringing-in it (sort of) deserves, as the agency plans to hold an opening ceremony for the $4 billion transit center around the time of its next board meeting.

A large alligator, about 10 feet (3 m) long, bellows at another nearby gator. When they do this, they raise their head up and inflate their lungs, which causes them to rise a bit out of the water. The bellow is reminiscent of a big cat's roar.

On the left is Lake Magadi, a large saltwater lake on the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater which is actually the world's largest collapsed volcanic caldera. We came through here on our way from Tarangire to Serengeti; we came back and spent a day inside the caldera after the Serengeti. The caldera is unique because it has several different habitats in a relatively small area.
The main geological feature of the Ngorongoro Conservation Authority is the Ngorongoro Crater, the world's largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. The crater, which formed when a large volcano exploded and collapsed on itself two to three million years ago, is 610 metres (2,000 feet) deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometres (100 square miles). Estimates of the height of the original volcano range from 4,500 to 5,800 metres (14,800 to 19,000 feet) high. The crater floor is 1,800 metres (5,900 feet) above sea level. The crater was voted by Seven Natural Wonders as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa in Arusha, Tanzania, in February 2013. The Ngorongoro volcano was active from about 2.45 to 2 million years ago.
