Several thousand angry protestors surrounded Austin Police Headquarters and shut down Interstate Highway 35 on 05/30/2020.The protestors were enraged by the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week and Michael Ramos in Austin last month.the demonstrations were part of a national day of protest organized by Black Lives Matter and other activist organizations in reaction to the Floyd Killing.The protests started at noon and related unrest continued until almost dawn on Sunday.
Outnumbered law enforcement officers from several agencies dressed in full riot gear occasionally made use of tear gas,pepper spray ,beanbags and rubber bullets to maintain a constantly changing perimeter.The APD headquarters was vandalized by spray paint and several arrests were made throughout the day and evening.
