The Dragon Boat Festival
Traditionally in Chinese culture, on the 5th day of the fith month of luna calendar, parents would put a 香包 (xiang-bao) on the children to keep them from the illness.
香包 is a sachet scented with realgar, calamus and asiatic wormwood powder. the aroma of the herbs works as the insect repellent nowadays.
according to the luna calendar, the 5th day of the fifth month of the year, is the begining of the summer; contagious diseases and others by medium of insects are happening from this time. How cleaver our ancestors were when medical was not so approaching to the popular!
about the dragon boat?! that's the sport we do on the holiday now, most people just watch the race. and the origin....that's another story.
I tried a bounce flash to capture these doggies. It really works much better than a flash head-on. No post production needed with the image. Borders and effects added later.
Night time view towards the east from the roof of my apartment building. Towards the left and well lit is the Aussie Stadium, and right of that (and not really visible) is the Sydney Cricket Ground.
