The Audi R8 (Typ 42) is a mid-engine, 2-seater sports car, which uses Audi's trademark quattro permanent all-wheel drive system. It was introduced by the German car manufacturer Audi AG in 2006. The car is exclusively designed, developed, and manufactured by Audi AG's high performance private subsidiary company, Audi Sport GmbH (formerly quattro GmbH), and is based on the Lamborghini Gallardo platform. The fundamental construction of the R8 is based on the Audi Space Frame, and uses an aluminium monocoque which is built using space frame principles. The car is built by quattro GmbH in a newly renovated factory at Audi's 'aluminium site' at Neckarsulm in Germany. In 2005, Audi announced that the name of the successful Audi R8 race car would be used for a new road car in 2007, the Audi R8, based on the Audi Le Mans quattro concept car (designed by Frank Lamberty and Julian Hoenig), appearing at the 2003 International Geneva Motor Show, and 2003 Frankfurt International Motor Show. The R8 development program began in 2004, Lamberty's design being approved and frozen for production. Production body prototypes began field testing in January 2006. The R8 road car was officially launched at the Paris Auto Show on 30 September 2006. There was some confusion with the name, which the car shares with the 24 Hours of Le Mans winning R8 Le Mans Prototype (LMP). 6-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Jacky Ickx described the R8 as "the best handling road car today".

Lovely to see these monsters of the Group B era - the powerful Audi Quattro in all it's glory. Sounded as good as it looked, but only now looking at the images on the computer can I see the car in detail as it flew by very quickly.

Smashing looking Audi Quattro at Blenheim Palace Salon Prive, on 31st August 2025. This 2144cc car built in 1983 - back in the glory days with the likes of Michelle Mouton the French rally driver.
This car now sporting the names Nicky Clarke and Tim Clarke, looks like the car still takes parts in rallies.
Something a bit different and a break from shooting the stars, first time I have tried this, but its definately difficult to find a smooth straight piece of road without bumps. I actually cleaned my windscreen before this..... didnt last long. The green trails are a petrol station. just for a bit of fun really :-)
Was about to turn left here...
But realized It's not even New Year's Eve yet.
That was one of two reasons. Or three, really.

This years Concours d'Elegance was held at a location called 'Landgoed Heerlijkheid Mariënwaerdt' in the middle of the country. Earlier editions where held at Paleis Soestdijk and Paleis Het Loo and I really enjoyed those. I don't like this new location. I was there at opening and already traffic issues getting there. In the afternoon, when I was leaving, it was a total disaster. The day before there was some heavy rain and we had to park in the field and it was all muddy. When I left, lots of cars were stuck in the mud trying to leave the parking. Fortunately I could get away safe. They better move it next year. This location is bullshit.
The event itself was fine. Good collection of pretty cars. There was a oldtimers sprint. Honda brought the new Prelude. Spyker brought a bunch of cars. Couple of rally cars. Tasty hamburgers from the BBQ. Good fun, apart from getting there and getting out...
