Allan Gardens Conservatory is a major landmark and tourist attraction in downtown Toronto. Its historic, cast-iron and glass domed "Palm House" was built in 1910 and is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. A botanical gem in the heart of the city, Allan Gardens has a permanent collection of exotic plants and beautiful seasonal flower shows.

My sister and I passed by this power plant as we were driving home from the beach a while back. We both found it quite an eerie sight. I tried to bring that mood into this piece.
For some that phrase would describe their eyes after a late night of partying and ringing in the New Year. For me on this first morning of the 20s, it meant first-light reaching Towers of the Virgin in Zion National Park.
Being a native East-Coaster, who has transplanted to life on the West Coast, I still feel that the New Year occurs when the crystal ball drops in New York, and that's the end. So, with the aide of staid Springdale, Utah, it was easy to get an early bedtime on New Years Eve so we could begin the trek to the Canyon Overlook Trail at 6:00 AM to catch first-light and sunrise from this vantage.
The trail is a relatively flat mile hike with a few tricky spots where the ice and slickrock conspire to give even the most sure-footed concern in the dark. Once we reached the overlook, I was a little concerned that our cold trek may have been for naught, due to the heavy cloud cover. Though they were thick overhead, there still was some clearing to the East, along the sun on the horizon to light a narrow band, reflecting off the cloud bottoms and warming the sheer rocks faces of the Temple of the Virgin ahead. This image was captured about 10-15 minutes before the local sunrise time, and is considerably brighter than what we saw with our eyes, due to the 20-second exposure.
Once the actual sun rays reached the Temple directly, the light only lit the areas seen here in red for less than 5 minutes before disappearing above the clouds for the remainder of the day.

Gerbera are an excellent air-purifying houseplant, according to NASA's 'Clean Air Study', conducted in 1989. They found that the plant can remove high levels of Benzene, Formaldehyde and Trichloroethylene from the atmosphere.
Like North Falls further upstream, Middle North Falls has certain characteristics which one could argue give it an edge when comparing it to the park's main attraction, South Falls. Despite being considerably shorter, Middle North Falls is a markedly amorphous waterfall which changes physical shape in a very dramatic way as the volume of water in North Silver Creek changes. The 106 foot tall falls take the form of a narrow column of water during the summer months, funneled to perhaps 5 feet wide at most by a narrow runnel in the bedrock. With greater stream flow in the winter and spring months however, North Silver Creek sheets out across the 60-foot wide creek bed and turns the falls into a broad curtain of water, with part of the falls impacting on a twisting chute of basalt which then slides to join the more volumnous half of the creek in the plunge pool.
Middle North Falls is one of four waterfalls in Silver Falls State Park which features a trail which traverses behind the falling water. Unlike the other three, the trail leading behind Middle North Falls is a dead-end, constructed purely to allow access to additional views of the falls.

Macro Mondays - Magnetic
Happy Macro Monday everyone :)
The only magnet I could find in the house was on my camera strap ... I don't have a single fridge magnet, as the fridge door has a wooden outer, so not a lot point in having fridge magnets :)))
This happens to be one of the sunflowers from the bird seed. I did plant some colorful sunflowers that will be opening soon. I love how nature takes its course with the bird seeds and gives us not only chances to see the birds, but beauty in flowers also.

The sky was fiery and red this evening...too much intensity for me. After capturing a few of them, I moved away from that portion of the sky to where there was a warm calmness highlighted by a flock of pelicans.
......may you be the center of attraction in a wonderful way to someone this week.

Marshall Point Lighthouse is located at the entrance to Port Clyde, Maine. This image was captured toward the end of Golden Hour during sunrise, as the sun began to pierce its way through the clouds.
When it started raining on our park hike he drove down the main road with our windows opened to see what we could find. The trails are so wet that most of the deer are right on the roadside.

Quaglietta (AV)
The history of Quaglietta begins when, to stop the Saracen incursions in the Sele Valley, it was decided to build 3 fortresses: Valva, Senerchia and Quaglietta, (which however at the time was called castrum Quallectae).
The first settlement was therefore a military fortress built on a rocky spur (284 m above sea level) to which a village was added over time.
The name has nothing to do with quails as many believe but with the ancient Latin name of the area or Acque electe which translates as pure water and refers to the richness and purity of the waters that flow in the area.
Although the town is closely linked to the municipalities of the Sele Valley belonging to the province of Salerno, it is part of the province of Avellino and is a fraction of the municipality of Calabritto.
The 1980 earthquake hit this town hard but it was renovated with great attention and today the ancient medieval village retains its ancient splendor and is a tourist attraction.

Il primo insediamento fu quindi una fortezza militare costruita su uno sperone roccioso (284 m sul livello del mare) a cui nel tempo si aggiunse un borgo.
Il nome non ha nulla a che fare con le quaglie come in molti credono ma con l'antico nome latino della zona ovvero Acque electe la cui traduzione è acqua pura e fa riferimento alla ricchezza e purezza delle acque che sgorgano in zona.
Pur essendo il paese strettamente legato ai comuni della Valle del Sele appartenenti alla provincia di Salerno fa parte della provincia di Avellino ed è una frazione del comune di Calabritto.
Il terremoto del 1980 ha colpito duramente questo paese che però è stato ristrutturato con grande attenzione e oggi l'antico borgo medievale conserva l'antico splendore ed è una attrazione turistica.
Bergamo is a city in the Lombardy region, located at southern foothills of the Bergamian Alps.
The historical part of the city is located on a hill (Città Alta) and is an attraction for tourists. The most important monuments of the upper part of city are Piazza Vecchia, next to which is Palazzo della Ragione built in 12th century, the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore (12th - 14th centuries), the city tower from 11th century and the cathedral. The whole of upper city is surrounded by historic defensive walls.
Saint Pope John XXIII was associated with Bergamo, who studied at the local seminary, then was the secretary of the bishop of Bergamo.

Sambar Deer is a large deer that inhabits much of Southern Asia and can be found in a variety of forest habitats. These hardy species are seen congregating in large herds in the national parks and reserves of Sri Lanka, India and Thailand. The Sambar deer found in Sri Lanka is a sub-species found only in the island nation known as Rusa unicolor unicolor. This sub-species is one of the largest found in the world, and has the largest antlers both in body and in size.

Firstly, good wishes to all my Canadian contacts; hope you enjoy Canada Day. I remember my visits to Canada very well. In the times we live in Canada is a beacon of light and decency .
This was taken early on our first morning in Stockholm. We got there very late the previous evening, so no opportunity to see anything . We were staying just across a canal from Stockholms Stadshuset (Town Hall ), so we saw it frequently. It’s impressive from the outside, particularly its tower, but the interior is extraordinary. It stands on the eastern tip of Kungsholmen Island, next to Riddarfjärden's northern shore and facing the islands of Riddarholmen and Södermalm. It houses offices and conference rooms as well as ceremonial halls. It is the venue of the Nobel Prize banquet and is one of Stockholm's major tourist attractions. It is not an old building but was built in 1911. Ragnar Östberg was the architect.
This photo, like many others I took, includes water and a bridge, which is not surprising. The city stretches across fourteen islands where Lake Mälaren flows into the Baltic Sea. The islands are connected by 58 separate bridges and metro tunnels.
