This is a British Army Air Corps Apache AH Mk 1 attack helicopter that participated at this year's Capel Military show in Surrey, UK. I was very lucky to get this shot as the Apache appeared overhead just as I arrived at the show.

Flight crews scramble to clear the deck as Reaper One-Four spins up in support of a NATO counter-attack. Russian troops swarmed the city of Kharkiv the night before, overwhelming NATO positions and capturing the northwest end of the city. Air space surrounding Kharkiv had been locked down by Russian SAM sites, but with the help of radar hunting Wild Weasel strike packages, the skies are again open for an all out aerial barrage and continued CAS to aid in reclaiming the city.

This helo is a Romanian-made IAR-330 Puma of the 330L SOCAT variant (Sistem Optronic de Cercetare si lupta Anti-Tanc), meaning optronic system for reconnaissance and anti-tank fighting. This version was developed with Elbit Systems, using their sensors, fire control system and weapons. A variety of weapons can be carried on the 4 pylons, including 57mm unguided rockets in multiple launch tubes (UB-16-57 seen here) and Rafael Spike anti-tank missiles. Under the nose is a French Nexter M261 THL-20 20mm autocannon on a fully articulated turret. It is one of a few assault helicopters with a troop compartment, along with the more famous Mi-24 Hind and Vietnam-era Huey gunships.

I was very happy when I was told that they would have an AH-1 at the display. I flew the AH-1G, AH-1Q and the AH-1S model Cobra in Germany in the mid to late 1970's and it was nice to see one up close again and to have an opportunity to photograph one that was not mounted on a stand or inside a building. However, I was surprised at the Black and Gold color scheme. I was expecting an OD Green or a Desert Camouflage scheme, but I like this version much better.

Just playing around, I have this one usually in the corner on top of some storage drawers a show piece. I'm planning to make a few display stands for models, possibly vignette sized or slightly larger just to show models off.

I made this version of the AH-6 because it's different in areas than the usual versions others make.

I said it would be here by Wednesday or Thursday, and by God I actually made my deadline. Finally getting more things built in brick! :D And of course since I have a Venom, I had to make the Viper ;)

There's a few things I'll be changing and adding in for a future update, but straight out of LDD this thing is pretty solid. As always, comments and criticisms are always welcome! Please let me know anything you might think could be changed or improved, as I'm always looking to improve!

AH-1S (73472) / Japan Ground Self-Defense Force / 2019.08

The VASP (Vtol Assault and Support Platform) is a small twin engined Gunship, widely utilized by the western pre-collapse military. Most still intact units are in service of various post-collapse governments and can sometimes be seen patrolling still inhabited cities. Outfitted with a 30mm chain gun, these armored VTOLs perform well in strafe runs, escorts or direct infantry support. Additional armament, including anti tank missiles for the VASP have proven ineffective in post collapse days and have been abandoned. Designed to have a significantly low heat signature and a compact design, the VASP proves a difficult target for handheld anti aircraft systems.

This recent addition to my collection of Gunships has strongly been influenced by Chewk´s Hornet variant. Recently I felt like I need a smaller sort of aircraft, since Gunships of the Serpent´s size are difficult to use within other creations, because they seem to be out of proportion. Chewk´s Hornet pretty much proved that also a smaller design approach can fit a figure, so I felt like trying my luck at it, too. This is part of another project which won't be revealed just yet.

A truly unique formation of two iconic former Cold War adversaries: an Apache and a Hind. The Czech helo was scheduled to perform after the WAH-64D, so the pilots organized on the spot an ad-hoc formation. They took off together, made a few flybys and then the Hind broke off and orbited as the Apache flew its display. Despite the backlight and the heat, it is a stunning sight to have these two helos in one frame flying over the iconic city of Berlin, the point where the Cold War began and met its conclusion.

Dedicated to Tim McMental, whose former regiment is flying the AAC Apache display and who lived through the dark days prior to the Wall coming down. This image is not only pretty to him, but it is a sobering reminder of just how well the Cold War turned out.

CHAOS and OTIS

Busy morning at TYS, with 3 AH-64E from the SC NG headed home and a USMC KC-130J prepping for a mission.

An AH-64 Apache helicopter on display at Duxford. Designed for attack and reconnaissance roles, the Apache has become one of the most recognisable military helicopters in service today. Its distinctive design and advanced technology have seen it operate in numerous conflicts worldwide.

The dark, menacing silhouette of a Mi-171 swooping towards me is really intimidating. I love the sight and sound of the Mi-8/17 helicopters
