Lake Atitlan with volcanoes on background...

FELICES FIESTAS A TODOS / HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, MY FRIENDS

San Juan la Laguna´s dock, at Atitlan Lake. One of the beauties of my country. This dock is just 5 minutes walking, from my house.

Part 2 of the series, thanks to everyone for Explore on the previous upload, happy weekend.

Lake Atitlan is one of the bluest lakes I've ever seen. It was created from a large volcanic crater. Cone shaped volcanoes still surround the lake. Before I ever visited this lake, I a had reoccurring dreams of this peaceful blue haven. From the dreams, I thought it was located somewhere in Canada. When I did finally see Logo Atitlan, I gasped knowing this was the lake in those dreams.

The last photo of the Atitlan viewpoint series, as the lights of the villages turn on at night (well, until the next blackout). I didn't really feel comfortable lingering any longer at this spot, robberies had happened there, so this is the closest to the blue hour of the series.

Unfortunately my taxi had a tire blowout on the way back, and the driver and I had to wait 2 hours in the dark road for the mechanic to show up, the taxi had a spare tire (barely big enough for a Vespa scooter), but he couldn't remove the old tire. Perhaps if I had stayed later at the viewpoint, the tire wouldn't have burst.

But anyway......I hope everyone is still healthy and dealing well with the situation.

From Indians Nose mountain, 2860m. above sea level, the lake itself lies at about 1500m. This viewpoint used to be notorious for robberies, many people come here for sunrise, that means waking up at 3 in the morning, I would not recommend going without a local guide. it's not necessary, but it's better for safety.

The final photo of the series, moving on to different places next, hope it wasn't too boring, piers in the "Atitlanese metropolis" of Panajachel, some of the comments were about how serene this spot is, most of the lake shore is, indeed, serene, but this spot is not, it's the busiest port on the lake and there are more than a dozen piers just like these left and right, and latin american dance music was blasting all around when I took these series.

View of Lake Atitlan and San Pedro- Toliman volcanoes from Hotel Casa del Mundo.

It's interesting how my iPhone can easily take clear panoramas from a rocking boat, but my Sony Nex, which has a similar sweeping panorama mode, just can't seem to handle it.

Tropical sunset above Atitlan lake, Guatemala, angry cloud faces around a crescent moon. I see a face in both the orange cloud and the black one at the bottom left, it's disturbing that the yuuuge orange cloud looks like,,,,,someone with a legendary orange face and combover.

Thanks for the explore comments, flickr gave me the panda page as a reward when I tried to reply to comments and faves, stay safe and healthy.

One of The most beautiful places in the world, surrounded by volcanoes and mystery, Soft wood trees on one shore, Hard wood trees on the other, Mayan ruins under water. A lake in the mountains, created by volcanoes, MUST SEE!

A timelapse of clouds over Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. I love how the clouds always seem to be attracted to the top of the volcano.
