The Atari 800 was one of the first home computers to be released, after the TRS-80 Model 1, Commodore Pet and Apple ][. I still love the case design - looks futuristic in its own right. It had a real keyboard, unlike the 400, twin cartridge slots and four joystick controllers. I remember desperately wanting one.
Fresh out of my storage unit:
Atari Home Computers I played with in the 1980's:
800 - 48K, introduced in 1979
800XL - 64K, introduced in 1983
130XE - 128K, introduced in 1985
[My 400 is lost in the storage unit somewhere]
• CIB
• Console throughly cleaned, minute detail
• Rebuilt controllers - xxx parts used - tested and function 100%, but not used
• Box in great condition, collectors will appreciate
• only flaw (this is nitpicking) faint scratch on smoked plexiglass cover
I made this image with the exposure blending tool from Digikam using nine exposures. Parts of two and one whole IBM Model M keyboards are in the picture along with an Atari 2600 styled USB joystick.
The first comercial arcade game, Computer Space, developed by Nolan Bushnell, was based on the classic video game SpaceWar!, and was released in 1971. Though it did not did sell well, Bushnell would nonetheless make a much bigger name for himself when he went on to found Atari.
I'm playing Atari - Donkey Kong to be exact - with my childhood best friend Timmy Whitehead. This was one of the last times I saw Timmy before he moved away.
Atari 2600 "Heavy Sixer" and a Sears "Tele-Games" Branded 2600.
Aside from the standard controls there is also an Atari Video Touchpad and two Gemstick joysticks.
