The Columbia and its tributaries have been central to the region's culture and economy for thousands of years. They have been used for transportation since ancient times, linking the many cultural groups of the region. The river system hosts many species of anadromous fish, which migrate between freshwater habitats and the saline waters of the Pacific Ocean. These fish—especially the salmon species—provided the core subsistence for native peoples.
Astoria Column hill view of the mighty Columbia River, Oregon across the bridge to Washington State. Beyond up river the ships run to the mouth of the Pacific Ocean, and Warrenton, Oregon. It was a lovely day!
Thank you for your warm visits, greatly appreciated.
I've driven by so many times in the last 20 years on the way to Cannon Beach. I finally stopped to take some photos. I would've liked a few more clouds in the sky for the long exposure, but ... you can't always get what you want.
Astoria, Oregon, the last bridge over the Columbia river before it empties into the Pacific ocean, evening shoot under an umbrella in the soaking rain. A stray raindrop on the lens already ruined this. These are the first uploads from last weekend's excursion, it was a disappointment mostly, so there won't be many uploads from that trip.
Pier39-Astoria is a Historical Landmark located on the Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. Its Mission is to preserve the working waterfront and maintain the Hanthorn Cannery, built in 1875. The Cannery was the foundation of the Columbia River Packers Association, the same company that created Bumble Bee Seafoods. Here it is viewed from our room at the Hampton Inn.
I finally, after so many years of driving past on our way to the coast, got to explore the houses that cling to the hill above the Astoria Bridge.

Astoria is the colloquial, unofficial name of a major road intersection in the Budapest city centre and it can also refer to a station of the M2 metro line. It is named after Grand Hotel Astoria at its corner.
It is the crossing point of Rákóczi út and Small Boulevard. At its corner can be found the Humanities Faculty of the Eötvös Loránd University and the Hungarian National Museum beside it. Dohány Street Synagogue is located in the opposite direction, around 200 m far from this junction.
