Bhagavan spoke about turning inwards to face the Self. That is all that is needed. If we look outwards we become entangled with objects and we loose awareness of the Self shining within us. But when, by repeated practice, we gain the strength to keep our focus on the Self within, we become one with it and the darkness of Self ignorance vanishes. Then even though we continue to live in this false and unreal body, we abide in an ocean of bliss that never feeds or diminishes.

You are awareness - awareness is another name for you.

Since you are awareness, there is no need to obtain or cultivate it.

All that you have to do, is to give up being aware of other things, that is, of the not-Self.

If one gives up being aware of them then pure awareness remains and that is the Self.

reposting some old b&w photos

when I stayed with Chandrashekar in the old town, quite close to the big temple in Tiruvannamalai, his daughter Ganga used to bring me chai in the morning. It was very very sweet, but strong at the same time and it gave me a great start for the day which would see another round around the beloved Arunachala hill.

see what you are on the inside

look for and find your source

any time is good to do that

but this time is perfect.

Find out who you are!

Says Sri Ramana the sage of Arunachala:

"what is the use of knowing everything else,

when you don't know yourself?"

but not book knowledge, not school knowledge, -

direct experience, direct knowledge...

follow the I thought to its source...

In this captivating image captured during the trek to Mount Arunachala in Tiruvannamalai, a leafless tree takes center stage, casting an enchanting and somewhat mysterious aura. The tree stands proudly, its branches extending in various directions across the frame, creating a mesmerizing visual effect reminiscent of a psychedelic journey into nature's wonders.

He who turns inward with untroubled mind to search where the consciousness of "I" arises, realizes the Self, and rests in Thee, Oh Arunachala! like a river when it meets the ocean.

too bad I cut the peak of the holy Arunachala hill!

The expanding mind will attain peace, becoming still of its own accord, if it is deprived of something to hold on, just as fire gets extinguished gradually, if not fed with fuel.

Skandashram was one of the hermitages where Sri Ramana Maharshi lived for many years.

on the west side of Arunachala.

Can you see the dog?

I'm missing the daily walks around Arunachala. Now eleven years have gone since I did these, along with the camera on most of the days, not all. This is the northern part. Having left way before sunrise, this is the point where the sun throws beautiful shadows.

The circuit around this holy hill is an age old ritual known as girivalam in Tamil. To know more about the related teachings have a look here:

Oh Arunachala! And finds his delight in Thee.

strolling through the old town on a late pleasant warm February afternoon, having the camera at hand, I had just to lift it up and take the shot. It's not surprising that he also, like so many people in Tiruvannamalai, keeps a photograph of Sri Ramana, the Maharshi. Note that no clock shows the same time!!

a rare sight at a place where people try to loosen the body identification, this jogger overtook me one morning and I haven't seen another within two months.

every full moon night ten thousands of people walk around the holy hill Arunachala, an ancient ritual in Tiruvannamalai. Arunachala is Shiva himself, a symbol of God, Brahman, the Self, the highest principle of the vedas. Along the road around the hill, (ca 15km) vendors sell food, beverages and all kind of things.

He who dedicates his mind to Thee and, seeing Thee, always beholds the universe as Thy figure, he who at all times glorifies Thee and loves Thee as none other than the Self, he is the master without rival, being one with Thee, Oh Arunachala, and lost in Thy bliss!

(aham-sphurti).

Fourth of February 2012, around 6:30. As usual in the morning, Sri Arunachala wears a cloud cap which lasts up to the early afternoon on some days. The path is quiet, especially at this part of the road on the western side of the hill. Few vehicles pass by; always one finds some people doing girivalam (the ritual circuit of the holy hill in clockwise direction).
