Giorgio Morandi spent his entire career painting vases - tall vases, short vases, square vases, swirly vases, metal vases - all arranged neatly on a table, with never a human form intruding to ruin their family portraits. His work was often labeled metaphysical or abstract expressionist, which he vehemently denied, noting that the vases aren't props or abstractions, they're his vases and he's just trying to do justice to his vases.
