I really like this photo, makes me feel like someone snapped this of me while I was walking by them.
The look makes me feel like the Jekyll and Hyde characters.
What did I just do? Did I scope my next victim, am I lusting the stalk of the weak. I'm on the brink of a splitting headache, I think I'm going to crack soon. .. Yeah, totally corny, I know.
I'm amazed I managed to rally in time to get this shot done today before Lost tonight. Let me back up. I went to Urgent Care this morning to get my leg checked out since I still can't walk. Turns out I tore my calf muscle and fascia in my right leg. The good news is that I didn't rupture my achilles tendon, so I won't need surgery. The bad news is that it's going to be 4-6 weeks before I can even think about running, jumping, playing soccer, or anything else that I actually want to do with my leg. But I'm thankful because it could be worse. I have to keep reminding myself of that. Anyway, the doctor gave me a prescription for Percocet to help with the pain. I had some issues with nausea when I took Vicodin a few years back, so he thought Percocet would be a good alternative.
WRONG!
About forty-five minutes after taking it, I hit a brick wall of nausea and was completely laid up for the rest of the afternoon, petrified that I was going to throw up. Did I mention that I do NOT throw up? I do everything in my power to avoid it at all costs, no matter what. Even when I know I will feel better afterwards. No thank you. Anyway, today sucked. That's pretty much the point of the story. But I managed to get this shot off for this week's Emulation Challenge in My Face is My Canvas. Can you believe this is our 25th week of emulation challenges??? If you haven't already checked out the group and you have even the slightest interest in face art photography, you owe it to yourself to stop by. And for those of you who haven't played in a while...hey, we miss you! ;)
Ok, time to watch the rest of last week's Lost in preparation for tonight's episode. Michelle and Daynna, prepare for the onslaught of texts and BBMs.

My Face is My Canvas: Emulation #25
So our emulation challenge this week in My Face is My Canvas can be classified as "fantasy." The inspiration picture felt like it embodied fire, and I was feeling more airy today. So I went softer. Haven't done some serious face art in a while, so I had fun with this today.
Now that I'm done processing my pictures, I can focus on what's really important: tonight's season premiere of Lost!!! Dying in anticipation! I can't believe we're already starting the final season. I want to cry. I can still remember watching the very first episode on the first day it aired, alone in my condo, and freaking the fark out! Tonight's episode is guaranteed to blow my mind. And I love me some good, mind-blowing television. :) The best part? I get to watch the premiere a full three hours before Daynna!! I might have to torture her with texts throughout the entire premiere...

Musically Challenged: Andrew Bird - Lull
Model - Shaun
My good friend Shaun was nice enough to model for me last night. He had a great German military sweater in his closet and even though it was hot as hell, I thought this would fit best for the look I wanted. There's actually another shot I want to post in a few days, expect something new from this shoot. :}
Ok, I definitely didn't miss working. But luckily I managed to accomplish a lot today by starting early. So I have some downtime now. Andy's got a rump roast in the oven, so there'll be some good eating soon too. Holler!
I rarely, if ever, use textures, so I'm not sure how I feel about this processing. Cool or sucky?
My Face is My Canvas: Emulation #69 - False Face
I didn't use this picture a long time ago, because I didn't like two things.
The background.
and the light.
I didn't know what I was doing.
Wait....I STILL don't know what I am doing.
I relooked at the pictures and just couldn't resist posting this because she has such a wonderful smile going on.
My family is beautiful.
It makes me sick, since I apparently didn't get ANY pretty genes.
This is the last one I'm working on from this series, promise. Couldn't help myself though, this is what I do on a Saturday night. Drink some cider, play with Photoshop and enjoy design.
Random thought - If your wondering why I'm posting these, "random thoughts" it's so I can try and open up a little more. I do have words to share, just give me time. These thoughts are purely random.
Music I'm listening to - The Knife. There is one song in particular that I keep playing over and over, "We Share Our Mothers' Health". Love it. Does anyone else repeat a song till it's stamped in your brain?

Ok, I played with the editing some more on this alterate and wound up loving how ridiculously silly it looks. So this one is going to be my "non-selfie" 365 shot for today, even though it's a selfie. It's not the same shot as the other one, so bite it! ;)

I am SO thrilled with the processing Kellie did on this shot. This was an outtake from my recent bejeweled mask shots, sans mask. This has such a soft, dreamy feel to it. I think the processing added a lot of mystery to the shot. Very nicely done, Kellie!

Had some time to play around today. Freaked my dad out with this get up. My mom came upstairs and told me I looked pretty. Um... ok?
So I've decided not to run the 5k today. Obviously since it starts in about five minutes. It's just too damn cold. It's 28 degrees outside right now and I have no desire whatsoever to run in that.
It was a toss-up between this one and the first outtake in the comments.

I spent the first half of today procrastinating because I so did not want to do anything but lie on the couch and relax. The second half of the day was spent cleaning madly at the lake house in preparation for some very cool people who are coming to visit next weekend. I don't think we cleaned the cottage this well even earlier this summer when the whole family came out for the 4th of July. I wish I didn't have to wait until Friday for the fun to start. I'm ready now!
This was a pretty quick shoot tonight, but I was really happy with the way it turned out. I had a hard time deciding which of these I liked the best, so I'll put the other contenders in the comments as usual to drive Tara crazy so that you guys can tell me which is your favorite.

I know it's not polite to toot your own horn, but holy hell do I ever love the way today's shots turned out! I was totally inspired by this shot, and knew I wanted to do my own version with blues instead of pinks. Of course, in post processing I wound up falling in love with this shot, which is decidedly more muted. Whatever. Don't you just love those days where shoots go even better than expected and you totally feel like you rocked it out? This is one of those days for me. So let me enjoy it!! Ha!
That said, there were a bunch of outtakes that I really liked too, so I'm posting them in the comments. Let me know what you think of them. And as a side note, when I started my self portrait 365 project, I wasn't sure I could handle it. I mean, I'm self conscious of the way I look and usually hate pictures of me. So how was I going to do a whole year of it, right? But what I've discovered in the course of doing these daily self portraits, is that I love the way I can totally transform my look for different shots. Wigs, makeup, angles, processing...it's become this total obsession of mine. I love making myself look like somebody else, while still retaining the bits of me that I love. This shot is such a good example of that.
Ok, I'll stop rambling about how much I love these shots. Ha. If you read this far, you must really like me a lot! ;)

I finally got some motivation tonight! Simple plan - messy hair, added hair extentions to the shoulders and some crazy make-up and there you have it. For some reason this shot reminds me of Parker Posey in that Blade movie. I love her but she was really bad in that movie. I think it was the overall look to the shot that made me feel that way. side note - I have a few other photos from these series that I might post but this was by far my favorite.
cheers -
Random thought - In the fall I'm taking some photography classes, can't wait.

Nothing like a killer emulation challenge in My Face is My Canvas during the last few days of my 365 to get the creative juices flowing. And it also got me to thinking about how much my style has changed in terms of processing. I mean, when I started my 365, I did little to no processing. That soon gave way to my overly-processed so you can tell I did something to this shot phase. Some of those turned out alright, but admittedly, looking back on a lot of those makes me cringe now. And it's not that I really stopped processing my shots in any dramatic way. I didn't. I just changed the way in which I attacked my processing. I started treating each photo like a unique work of art in itself. I don't use the same preset or set of actions from shot to shot. I let every shot speak to me and spend time tweaking so many settings that by the end, I have no idea how I got to my end result. I highly recommend anyone who isn't already playing around like this to experiment. Try adjusting different levels. Go for a drastically different look from day to day. It helps to break up the monotony of taking and posting a self portrait every single day. And you just might learn something along the way. :)
Only two days left...

Ok, ok, by popular demand, I'm making this one public too. I do like it. It just reminds me a lot of some of my older stuff on face shots, so I thought I'd go with the others for my "official" 365 shots for today. Everyone happy now? ;)

Had a wonderfully spontaneous change of plans last night. So instead of watching DVR'd tv shows in my room, Andy and I went to see the Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra perform Mozart. We had dinner out, grabbed drinks at the bar, then held hands while we lost ourselves in the music. It was really sweet. Much better than tv shows. Which are the plan tonight. :)
This shot kicks off the new theme in Theme of the Week. This week we are doing Mythology. This theme was suggested a long time ago and I was always hoping it would get selected. I was a Classical Civilizations major in undergrad. I was (and still am) completely obsessed with classical Rome and Greece. Primarily Roman culture, but I prefer Greek mythology to Roman mythology, as close as they may be to one another. Today I chose to portray Gaia, known as Mother Earth. Read on for more information.
---------------------------
Gaia or Gaea, known as Earth or Mother Earth (the Greek common noun for "land" is ge or ga). She was an early earth goddess and it is written that Gaia was born from Chaos, the great void of emptiness within the universe, and with her came Eros. She gave birth to Pontus (the Sea) and Uranus (the Sky). This was achieved parthenogenetically (without male intervention). Other versions say that Gaia had as siblings Tartarus (the lowest part of the earth, below Hades itself) and Eros, and without a mate, gave birth to Uranus (Sky), Ourea (Mountains) and Pontus (Sea).
Gaia took as her husband Uranus, who was also her son, and their offspring included the Titans, six sons and six daughters. She gave birth to the Cyclopes and to three monsters that became known as the "Hecatonchires". The spirits of punishment known as the Erinyes were also offspring of Gaia and Uranus. The Gigantes, finally, were conceived after Uranus had been castrated by his son Cronus, and his blood fell to earth from the open wound.
To protect her children from her husband, (the Cyclopes and the Hecatoncheires, as he was fearful of their great strength), Gaia hid them all within herself. One version says that Uranus was aghast at the sight of his offspring so he hid them away in Tartarus, which are the bowels of the earth. Gaia herself found her offspring uncomfortable and at times painful, when the discomfort became to much to bear she asked her youngest son Cronus to help her. She asked him to castrate Uranus, thus severing the union between the Earth and Sky, and also to prevent more monstrous offspring. To help Cronus achieve his goal Gaia produced an adamantine sickle to serve as the weapon. Cronus hid until Uranus came to lay with Gaia and as Uranus drew near, Cronus struck with the sickle, cutting the genitalia from Uranus. Blood fell from the severed genitals and came in contact with the earth and from that union was born the Erinyes (Furies), the Giants and the Meliae (Nymphs of the manna ash trees).
After the separation of the Earth from the Sky, Gaia gave birth to other offspring, these being fathered by Pontus. Their names were the sea-god Nereus, Thaumas, Phorcys, Ceto and Eurybia. In other versions Gaia had offspring to her brother Tartarus; they were Echidna and Typhon, the later being an enemy of Zeus. Apollo killed Typhon when he took control of the oracle at Delphi, which Gaia originally provided, and then the "Sibyl" sang the oracle in Gaia's shrine.
It was Gaia who saved Zeus from being swallowed by Cronus, after Zeus had been born, Gaia helped Rhea to wrap a stone in swaddling clothes, this was to trick Cronus in to thinking it was Zeus, because Cronus had been informed that one of his children would depose him, and so to get rid of his children he had swallowed them, Gaia's trick worked and Zeus was then taken to Crete.
Gaia being the primordial element from which all the gods originated was worshiped throughout Greece, but later she went into decline and was supplanted by other gods. In Roman mythology she was known as Tellus or Terra.

Holy effing hell, I have been having horrible stomach problems all day! The gurgles in the tummy started at about 3am and kept me tossing and turning. And I've been running to the bathroom all day. TMI, TMI, TMI! I know! I'm sorry!
But at least I managed to paint myself up for Face Art week. I swear I'm going to hit every day this week. Mark my words!
Lots more in comments.

This was a lot of fun to do, but I did make a little mess on the floor. Lets hope no one noticed.
Rapunzel really didn't need a man's help. Come on. :) If that braid was long enough to reach to the ground, what makes you think she didn't just cut it off and use it as a rope herself? I had a tough time choosing between these today, so you get some outtakes that I was digging too.
And now it's time for me to hop in the shower and get my hair done perfectly before heading to the stylist to get it colored and cut. Ha. Does anyone besides me stress over making sure their hair looks perfect when they go to see their stylist? Slightly neurotic about that. Anyway, pictures to come once I get my new style! :)

Everywhere I go
- Lissie, Everywhere I Go
I spent the day shopping with my mom. Very excited to have finally bought Andy's Christmas present. And I negotiated the price down!! Right there in the store! I don't do that often (who does?), so I was particularly proud. I can't tell you what I got him because sometimes he checks in on my stream, but I'll be sure to let you know how much he loves it on Christmas day. Because I just know he's going to love it! :) Also found the remainder of my Christmas gifts for the family, so now all I have left to do is wrap and I'm done! Is it wrong that I bought myself a couple new items too? I was in desperate need of some new dressy pants and a few cute new dressy tops, so I snagged those for myself at the 40% off sales. All in all, a great day of shopping. I feel like I accomplished a lot.
When I got home, I was exhausted and so not in the mood to shoot a picture. So I shot a few really horrible quickie shots in a big cushy chair for Dreamy's HBCCT group. When I uploaded them, I just couldn't stomach the absolute pathetic quality, so I went downstairs, threw on a wig and some makeup and decided to actually put forth a little effort. Have to say I'm fairly pleased with how this shot wound up. Very glad I took a second shot at today's picture. My inspiration today was actually Theme of the Week's theme: It's All in the Details. I find composition really jumps up a few notches on the visual scale when you pay attention to the little details. Which is why I went for the gold fingers and added the ring to complete the makeup look. Also, I'm clearly in a bit of a wind-blown phase. Expect more of these. ;) What do you think? Success?

I have become comfortably numb.
Oh yes, that certainly is a real bee on my face. I had the shivers the whole time I was shooting this. I hate bees. And they hate me. But this guy was dead, so I figured I would probably be ok.
Spent some time today cleaning our house and swapping out the framed photos on our gallery wall. Until now, we've had up a series of black and white photos that I took long before I got serious about photography. So they've been kind of an eyesore to me for a while now. The gallery wall is definitely still a work in progress...I will be adding more framed prints whenever I can actually afford to buy more frames. But for now I have to say I'm thrilled with the new face lift. Some of my favorite shots from my own collection, and some of my favorites from my friends Jenna, Joel and Brian Day as well. Now our wall makes me happy! :)

Ok, so I figured since I've been doing some fairly simple shots the past few days, that I might as well spend a little more time today. This shot is helping me to kick off Theme of the Week's new weekly theme of Album Covers! Woot! I also got to pick the theme for the Vent this week, so say hello to what will hopefully be the first of many twisted fairytale shots you'll see this week. Today I chose Snow White. I have a handful of outtakes that I liked a lot too. I'll post a few in the comments.
You should all get in on the action and make some album covers this week! I know you guys who just started new 365s are looking for ideas! ;)
