I posted this photo because it reminded me of a children's TV programme about mischievious puppets called Bill and Ben the Flowerpot Men who had a friend called Little Weed. Little Weed, who they called Ickle Weed, lived beside a flower pot behind the potting shed. Ben's favourite saying was 'Flobabdob'. Ickle Weed would warn Bill and Ben when the gardener was coming so that they could hide back in the flowerpots. The memory made me smile and wondered if I lifted the flower pot then maybe, just maybe.....
If you don't know about Bill and Ben there is more information here: www.screenonline.org.uk/tv/id/443702/index.html

The wind is blowing and rain is predicted for tonight. I noticed that the catkins on our willow tree are going to seed, and will soon give way to leaves. Since they look a little bedraggled - I thought they could use little artistic help. Topaz Studio to the rescue.
I thought that I can't do art 2 years ago. I've never been artistic before and didn't create anything as I grew up in Romania (Romanian schools don't promote art at all). But everything changed when I was employed as a teaching assistant one year after I came to London.
I took the job without thinking (and listening) too much as I needed to build up some experience in the UK. The second day in my job I was asked to draw a bus on at 2 by 1 meters sheet of paper for one of the school art display. I freaked out as I have never done any drawing before that.
Only after the first week I realised that I'm in charged with preparing and delivering of the art lessons. Anyway, I had a go at drawing, painting, making masks and other things that I had to do to teach the little kiddies (I didn't have a choice) and before I knew I was told that I'm brilliant. Not long after I was asked to do afternoon art clubs.
And that's how my artistic side was awaken.
The fact that Andy (my other half) is artistic helped me as well. He helped me to believe in me.
Now I enjoy learning and doing art a lot, my favourite one being quilling.
Recently I took drawing more seriously and start doing flowers (I love flowers).
I drew this from a flower pattern book that I have and then coloured it.
Available for trading.

WIT. I had never heard of Karl Blossfeldt before this assignment. When I looked at some of his photographs I thought they were very cool. However, as I looked at more and more I thought how boring! His photos a great but to spend a whole life just doing this? I don't have that kind of attention span.
As I walked around my garden I notice a grape vine and saw the little devices the plant uses to climb. I tried to take some pictures in situ but not very successfully. So I clipped a handful and then had my granddaughter, Annabelle, age 9, who is very artistic, help me to arrange them on a white board. Just natural light from a cloudy sky. In Photoshop i sharpened, adjusted the curves and converted to sepia.
This is my entry for the manga inspired cookie contest. With my friend's artistic help, I made a clock featuring Chii from Chobits pointing at twelve random objects and saying "Hideki!" This is inspired by the manga scene where Hideki is trying to teach Chii his name. The base is a 12" gingerbread cookie with sugar cookie cut outs on top. Everything was hand painted with egg paint and icing. This was my first time doing something like this and it took two days to make! Please see my flickr account for more pictures. My tokyopop username is filiadragongurl.
The guy selling these preserves and pie fillings actually seemed to be into the fact that I liked the colors. "It's a shame I didn't bring the blueberry preserves," he commented.

What a crazy year 2007 was. Was reunited with long-lost friends from high school. My parents retired and left for the old country. Witnessed my girlfriends become wives and mothers. Went to Disneyworld. Was reunited with other old friends from college. Visited Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Went on a cruise to the Mexican Riviera with the in-laws. Studied and studied and studied. Got a promotion and a new(ish) job. Became a US citizen. Was reunited with childhood friends from the Philippines. Spent Thanksgiving in the Bay Area and attended my cousin(-in-law)'s wedding. Found out I had an ovarian cyst and underwent surgery to have it removed. And now, it's all over.
I have great memories, and these photos (albeit not the best artistically) helped me realize how lucky I am to be surrounded by such wonderful friends and family all year.
I hope everyone else had a wonderful 2007 and an even better 2008!
Happy 2008, everyone!
My 6 1/2-year-old son drew this spider guy and I turned it into a softie. We've made four different creatures now (with the artistic help of my other son as well) and I'm sure there will be more to come. Kind of fits the theme for January though...maybe Little Miss Muffett's scary spider?
Chimera is listening to Grace McDunnough play and sing her original compositions live on Nevi in Mystical Cookie's Avendale sims. Chimera used to live across the stream in Adeo, but gave up the property when she moved to Jokaydia.
The Burning Life lizard on Chim's shoulder is from 2008. Chimeracool Burner got a plot in the landrush and Chimera is helping her. They probably will need some expert artistic help on Burning Life Pyramid in order not to look completely stupid. heheh

My buddy Mike and I got to each paint a wall in a new Halloween shop in St. Louis Park. This is the wall I did with some awesome artistic help from my buddy Pat.

I got to spend the day with this lovely lady right here. I rarely get to do that seeing as she goes to school 6 hours away and we are both so busy. But she was home on Easter Break so I decided I needed some artistic help with my final photos project as well as a little photos adventure. Isn't she gorgeous? I think climbing trees is going to be a frequent thing with us!
Sail boat on 9x12 construction paper and cake tempera....with some artistic help from my 4 year old. ;)
