Coil seems connected to gears but melted together
There seems to be some connection to chemical base - alcohol?
The state parks and federal bureau of reclamation consider these artifacts at Folsom Lake and it is a crime to remove them from the park

one of the artifacts cleaned at an artifact washing session, part of the AGM of the Huronia Chapter of the Ontario Archaeology Society in Midland, Ontario. This came from the early contact (French period 1620s) Huron Village site that was worked on as part of a Public Archaeology Day in August of 2012 near Penetang, Ontario.
The La Recoleta convent has an extensive collection of pre-Colombian artifacts. Sadly, though, the displays often left something to be desired. But their resources are limited--they get most of their support from tourism, and they only have a handful of monks.
