This chen mul style censer ( a container in which incense is burnt during a religious ceremony ) probably represents a young wind god or a priest dressed with the wind god's symbols , and dates between 1250 - 1550 AD .

Liverpool's World Museum is uncovering the world of the ancient Mayas this week in a major free exhibition of treasures direct from Mexico,

Mayas: revelation of an endless time, which opened on Friday, is the flagship exhibition in the nationwide cultural programme for the Year of Mexico in the UK, with Liverpool the only place to host the show in the country.

And with almost 400 stunning objects, it’s also the biggest temporary exhibition ever staged by National Museums Liverpool.

The artworks, brought together from various historic sites and institutions in Mexico, were previously shown in Mexico City, Sao Paolo in Brazil and Paris.

The ancient Maya kingdoms stretched from eastern Mexico to modern day Guatemala, Belize and into western Honduras and El Salvador, from 1000BC to 1542.

These artifacts are in Cades Cove which was a settlement several hundred years ago. It is now part of the National Park.

Our property was a working farm from the mid 1700's through the 1950's.

You could have a regular archeological dig in my front yard.

These are some of the bits and pieces of the past I dug up yesterday while digging out a hole for a new butterfly bush.

(all my butterfly bushes died over the winter 8-( )

There are shards of redware, a few pieces of porcelain, a piece of delft pottery....in the right bottom corner are a few old nails, and in the left bottom corner is a nice hunk of quartz.

We do have one of those metal detectors.

Larry bought it years ago, when he though he'd use it down at the shore.

Now he wants to explore the property up here, but I won't let him......there would be holes all over my property....LOL!!!

Generally not noticed except as a curiosity, small areas of coal and cinders give evidence of long ago logging activity.

This and nearby rusting steel cable and a bit of railbed are the site of Sunburst Logging Camp 17 near the confluence of Flat Laurel Creek and Pigeon River's West Fork. Pisgah National Forest, Haywood County, North Carolina.

The Israel Museum in Jerusalem is the largest cultural institution in the State of Israel and is ranked among the world’s leading art and archaeology museums.

Maya Artifacts Shoot. Interesting artifacts that were a fun shoot. These are the rough images from that shoot and this piece is owned by Val Stilwell here in Eugene, Oregon. She has an interesting story about how she tied it to the bottom of a boat to bring it home with her.
