Snoopy imagines himself to speak, but never actually does, other than nonverbal sounds and occasionally uttering "Woof". His very articulate thoughts are shown in thought balloons. The other characters in the comic can apparently read his mind, as they always react to what Snoopy thinks.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The tricks that good tennis players use, especially what happens when the ball bounces and does odd things… You couldn’t predict what you’re going to do. Try to hit it back. Not only try to hit it back, try to hit it back in a weird way. Or in some articulate way. And I think photography is stuck with those same kinds of moments, especially if you’re not a studio photographer. You don’t have much control.

Resoft also has some nesting Black-crowned Night Herons, which are very aggressive with the Wood Duck ducklings, gobbling up about half of them to feed their own chicks. It's nature, right? Phew! The Community Hall was built as the United Free Church to the design of JD Cairns in 1908 . It was built on the site of a previous, smaller United Free church, following a union with Crail West Church (now Holy Trinity Catholic Church). It is a typical Free Presbyterian Church building dating from the Edwardian period. Like many churches of this period, it used a style derived from Scottish precedents but also fitted in with the preference for late Gothic, often labelled Perpendicular, across Britain generally.

The church had a typical Presbyterian plan. The emphasis on preaching produced a wide and relatively short central main vessel to the church. There are shallow transepts to either side to create more space to either side of the pulpit.

There is a short chancel which is now used as a stage and would have been the sanctuary containing the communion table and chairs for elders. To the east is a church hall which is integrated into the design of the remainder of the building. The internal design of the space that was originally the church is particularly attractive. A quality is given to the space by its expressive roof form with the underside of the main trusses forming curves articulating the bays of the church. This arrangement is linked with the pairs of arches into the transepts. At the western end of the church is the original gallery.

It is listed Category B. Externally the main feature is the octagonal tower which forms a minor landmark in the northern part of Crail on the A917 St Andrews Road.

Words

The world does not need words. It articulates itself

in sunlight, leaves, and shadows. The stones on the path

are no less real for lying uncatalogued and uncounted.

The fluent leaves speak only the dialect of pure being.

The kiss is still fully itself though no words were spoken.

And one word transforms it into something less or other--

illicit, chaste, perfunctory, conjugal, covert.

Even calling it a kiss betrays the fluster of hands

glancing the skin or gripping a shoulder, the slow

arching of neck or knee, the silent touching of tongues.

Yet the stones remain less real to those who cannot

name them, or read the mute syllables graven in silica.

To see a red stone is less than seeing it as jasper--

metamorphic quartz, cousin to the flint the Kiowa

carved as arrowheads. To name is to know and remember.

The sunlight needs no praise piercing the rainclouds,

painting the rocks and leaves with light, then dissolving

each lucent droplet back into the clouds that engendered it.

The daylight needs no praise, and so we praise it always--

greater than ourselves and all the airy words we summon.

Here's another in my "how low can you go" series. I done gone as low as I can go - all the way, on my stretched out face-down torso. (Thank you, James - if you can do it so can I 😉) I have several successes sitting with camera on the ground, and I'm sitting using the articulating LCD to frame. This time, I tried looking through the viewfinder - definitely more accurate. I'm finding it rather addicting, but I can't necessarily find a spot that allows me an open view and a flatter area to spread out. Anyway, I really liked the two soft Wood Ducks in the bg, male and female, in addition to the star in the foreground.

From the bright flowers of summer to one of the harshest, coldest mornings of last winter: a morning on which I took a friend who was interested in seeing a Snowy Owl for a sunrise back-roading experience. He was shocked at the hour we were scheduled to leave his house and then really shocked when he saw the temperature.

It ended up that some sort of weather event was underway, and the temperature eventually dropped to -30. My friend dryly noted that he had underestimated my ‘commitment’ to birding.

I have to admit it was brutally cold. But with the ice fog and dawn light brightening the farmland it seemed exceptionally beautiful to me. I only wish I were better able to process my options for environmental/landscape photography.

My professional life involves creating and articulating options in complex contractual negotiations, and a commonly expressed fear of the folks I work with is that they have left an option unexplored. I feel that way when a situation like this cold, cold morning comes along, and the sun is rising…

This is the rolling, flat, open farmland southwest of Ottawa that year after year provides territory for Snowy Owls.

We found three Snowies, and even got out of the car to watch them through binoculars. But when I got out of the car to try some photographs of the weather event, my friend stayed put.

I had a good run of luck this night with the color in the sky. I posted one image from the set and people seemed to really like it, so I thought I would finish up this image. This one was taken a little earlier in the evening and the perspective in much lower, making the rocks in the foreground look like mountains too. Thank you new Manfrotto which has a feature that lets you place the camera body under the apex of the tripod, so it hangs. In this shot the hot shoe was actually sitting in the water, that's how low it was.

The tradeoff here is that the reflection of the actual mountain is gone, but you get some sky reflection. The sky color was not quite as pronounced because it was earlier in the night. When I took up photography in 2015, I had imagined I would focus on the beauty of life or, at least, on finding ways to express visually life's rich tapestry. But the political landscape keeps changing and I find myself engaged in expressing my views when I think things get dangerous. I do not regret being politically articulate. We, as photographers, should contribute visually to the public debate about our future. Getting sharp is part of our job description. Art is, and always has been, political.

Lyrics.

The ancient basilica of the Virgen de la Peña stands in the Spanish town of Graus (Ribagorza, province of Huesca, Aragon). The current temple was built in the mid-16th century on a previous Romanesque building. It consists of a church, patio and pilgrim hospital with a beautiful cloister-viewpoint.

We suggest visitors begin their visit from inside the church. There are remains of the Romanesque building, specifically in the lower part of the gospel wall, where there is a small high door and smaller ashlars. The current building has a single nave with two sections, covered with triplet vaults (the one at the foot was originally star-shaped) and a flat head on which rises a polygonal tower topped with a spire. The chamfering of the angles of the feet of the nave is striking.

The entrance door has a semicircular arch and abundant decoration: (candelieri, coffers, angels, shields and garlands) and is framed by columns joined by an entablature. In front of it, the porch imitates its Corinthian forms. On its frieze there is the signature of Joan Tellet in two cartouches along with a small corbel that draws the observer's attention. There is also the door to the chapel of San Juan de Letrán and a staircase that connects the portico with the patio. The corner of the church makes us understand the interior chamfering, since if this solution had not been adopted the exterior buttresses would occupy the site of this staircase.

The hospital archway opens to the patio. There we see how the structure of this building supports that of the church. Another archway on twisted columns offers us a splendid view of Graus and the confluence of the Ésera and Isábena rivers. As we leave, going down the ramp, we will see the other corner of the church and once again we understand the interior chamfering of the nave, since another exterior buttress would have prevented the access path to the complex.

From the outside, differences are observed in the two sections of the church:

The first phase of the works articulates its panels with moldings and buttresses

the second, a work by Tellet, which presents smooth panels and corners.

In the hospital as a whole there are also two phases:

a modest four-story building (leaning on the church and on the entrance to the complex) was surely the first to be built and was to serve as the residence of the clergy.

a much more ambitious extension, with three floors: the first, with the archway of semicircular arches that shelters the access ramp; the second, with the viewpoint of twisted columns; and the last one, made of brick and completely rebuilt, where there were rooms used as a pilgrim hospital and where a museum of icons is currently located.

This is Pangong tso -Pangong means hollow- the highest lake in Ladakh at about 4300 mts above sea level. Flanked by massive peaks over 6500 mts high, the lake is 150 km long but only 4 km at its widest. It extends almost in a straight line way into Tibet; in fact only a quarter of the lake is in India.

It is very difficuilt to explain the beauty of the lake. Set amidst dramatic snow clad peaks, blue sky, white clouds, the waters change colours every now and then. Blue, green, brown and white are some of the colours you can see at the same time at different areas of the lake. Occasionally white gulls cruise above the lake.

One has to be there to realise that a thing of beauty is a joy forever.

Have a nice day, friends.

השודק(Qadushah) is the Hebrew word for raising or blessing, whose five characters in an abstracted way articulate the profile of the building. With the pronouncing of a blessing a profane object is raised or exalted. It is lifted out of the quotidian and made into something special. It is this act of making special that the building, in its everyday use, should allow for.

I uploaded this earlier in the week for sliders Sunday, but thought it would be an interesting addition to fence friday as well...

Fence detail from a gravesite in Munson Cemetery near Cambridge,IL. The pioneer cemetery is a prairie grasslands project, which means it is allowed to exist virtually untouched with the prairie grasses growing naturally within it.We came across this by accident-it is not well marked-and it is an interesting sight to see the tombstones rising out of the long grasses on this rolling hillside. This particular gravesite was a real treat-the Attwater family plot is surrounded by a very articulately designed metal fence within the flowing grasses. For anyone who enjoys nature and history,Munson Township Cemetery Prairie is a must-see during all the seasons....

Milou felt strange. She felt weirdly tiny, and as if she were hovering at a great height, being attached to... wait a minute! Was that Tintin's trench coat? How did she get there? And why? Was this a dream? She tried to move, to get off her beloved master's coat. But whatever it was that kept her in place didn't budge. Oh no! This was a proper nightmare! Was Tintin mad at her for dropping the message and taking the bone? Everything was good in the end; there was a happy ending, and it wasn't her fault! "Please, Tintin, let me down, I'm a good dog!" she yelped. From a distance, she heard a familiar voice, repeating her name. "Milou! Milou? Wake up, sleepy head. Professor Calculus called; he needs our help. Go and find Captain Haddock, we're off to a new adventure!" With a jolt of relief, she was on her four legs, shaking off the last remnants of that horrible dream, and she happily ran to her master, madly wagging her tail. Then she raced through Marlinspike Hall as if there was no tomorrow, barking: "Haddock, Haddock! A new adventure was waiting. Life was good.

I've always been a huge fan of the Tintin books (next to Asterix), especially Hergé's later work (and except for the first two books), but I'd always assumed that Snowy (in German: Struppi) was a male fox terrier. But when I learned that "his" original name was Milou, named after Hergé's first love, I wasn't so sure anymore. Milou sure is a boy, both as Snowy/Struppi, but as Milou? Dear French-speaking Flickr friends, please help me out with this, merci beaucoup :)

I have a few Tintin-related fangirl things, such as two Tintin figures and the moon rocket as key fobs, Snowy in the red racing car and Tintin as photographer as metal keyrings (actually on my keys for ages), Tintin and Snowy as fairly large, poseable dolls (only Tintin has articulating parts), and two pin badges, one of Tintin riding a motorbike, and the other one of Snowy with the bone. The badge on its own looked nice, but I wanted to add a story element, so I placed the key fob of standing Tintin with his coat on and hands in pockets, behind the Snowy badge. The first idea was to include Tintin's reflection, but the reflection was too long (or the tiny badge too small – or both), and it made the background too busy, so I "limited" the reflection to Snowy's.

It's a single shot, illuminated only from the left and right. Size info: The Snowy pin badge is 1,8 cm/0,7 inches long.

HMM, Everyone!

I did a black and white version too but I preferred the colour for reasons I can't articulate. She and I made a connection for just that moment ... and then it passed. I hope you can see that in the photo?

I use photos as a creative outlet for emotions that I don't quite know how to articulate. This is one of them. Today is Mom's birthday. The first without her. I feel like I am celebrating alone, which is the worst feeling ever. No one is really prepared for massive loss, and even though we knew her demise was coming, we just could not be prepared enough for the fallout. This is going to take some time for me. This will not be the last picture I do that expresses how I feel about it.
