Urnes Stave Church (Norwegian: Urnes stavkirke) is a stave church at the Ornes farm, along the Lustrafjord in the municipality of Luster in Sogn og Fjordane county, Norway.
It has been owned by Fortidsminneforeningen (Society for the Preservation of Norwegian Ancient Monuments) since 1881. In 1979, the Urnes stave church was listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The church was built around 1130 or shortly thereafter, and still stands in its original location; it is believed to be the oldest of its kind. It provides a link between Christian architecture and the architecture and artforms of the Viking Age with typical animal-ornamentation, the so called "Urnes style" of animal-art.

It provides a link between Christian architecture and the architecture and artforms of the Viking Age with typical animal-ornamentation, the so called "Urnes style" of animal-art.
There have been numerous attempts to interpret the decoration (iconography) of the church's most remarkable part, the old portal in the northern wall. The images are generally considered to represent a snake curling upwards. At the lower end there is an animal with four feet biting the snake.
A common interpretation of this scene is that it portrays the eternal fight between good and evil. The animal is widely believed to be a stylised lion. In Christian iconography the lion is a symbol of Christ, fighting the evil symbolized by the snake, a common representation of Satan.
On the other hand, it is possible that the decoration of the earlier church featured some scenes from Norse mythology, a likely reason for its premature reconstruction in the 12th century. In this context, the animal may be interpreted as Níðhöggr eating the roots of Yggdrasil. "The intertwined snakes and dragons represent the end of the world according to the Norse legend of Ragnarök."

Thankyou to all who take the time to look, fav and comment on my photos.
It's a form of expression as important to me as any other artform about how I see and feel things, and your interactions are so appreciated.
Much Love
Zephaniah 2:3 “Seek the LORD, all you humble of the earth, who carry out what He commands. Seek righteousness, seek humility; perhaps you will be concealed on the day of the LORD’s anger.”
Sun goes down......lights turn on
Plain and simple...hope you like it

Body art, such as tattooing, has been practiced for hundreds of years all over the world. In body art tattooing here in Second Life, unlike that of RL (where this artform is basically permanent), it transforms the human canvas while allowing you with the flexibility to experiment with different tattoo designs on your body.
I love shopping at Carol G. not only for this reason but also because of the vast selection and variety of quality designs that Jewel has created over the many years that I have been following her work.

The android has a strong erge to tag over the chipping paint, nothing says loving like marking your territory and restoring a forgotten artform at the same time.
((*If you can find the spot I'm tagging there is a tribute to Stan Lee. RIP Stan the man ))

Street photography is an artform that cannot be planned. You can plan the rough framework. For example, planning where you start from or in which direction you go. You can choose your camera and your lens beforehand. But that has nothing to do with the actual scene or the people you meet or with the final result.
This man here appeared in front of me all of a sudden. I took the photo and as quickly as he came, he was gone again.
I would have liked to chat with him. About why I find him so cool, for example. But it just didn't happen.
And that's how these moments happens. These moments while waiting at a crossroad in a big city. It happens all of a sudden. And then everything has to happen very quickly.
The pagoda shoulders on this Cosmos Cassy Belted Bodycon Dress conveys intent and is one of the most defining elements of this beautiful silk piece.
Complementing the keyhole bodice, collectively the shoulders and neckline lock the other pieces of this dress in place, determining its silhouette and drape.
By far, this is one of the most sensually elegant dresses that Tom Cosmos has designed. Cosmos creates custom women’s clothing as a true artform - possessing a high level of specialization and attention to detail.
The fatpack features 12 different dress earth tone colors, 12 belt colors, and 4 metal buckle finishes. You can also vary the degree of transparency of the silk fabric from zero to 25%.
This dress is exclusively available at Swank Events March ‘22.

I want to.
Do you?
Backstory:
It starts with the bird. I am walking through a small shop, at the mall, with a friend. I glance over and see a bird perched on a table among Halloween decorations. Though someone feels that it is a fall decorative piece, smiling, I clearly see it has a year-round necessity. I gather the bird, excitedly pay for it, and then the creative fodder begins to flutter in my mind. A day or two passes. I am at home, and it comes to me. The idea of flying or the want to fly seems to matter. More importantly, what if this flightless bird could fly?
She whispers to say, "I WANT to."
For my love of photography and storytelling, I find myself creating this image. It proves that inspiration comes in all shapes, sizes, sounds, and feelings.

Taracea (inlaid marquetry) is an artform brought from northern Africa to Granada by the Moors in 14th century. Long after the Catholic conquest of Granada it continued to be used to decorate religious artefacts, furniture and other items. It remains unique to Andalusia in Spain and there are just a handful of places still making and selling taracea (from the Arabic word 'tarci', to encrust) . These little drink coasters are quite simple with their geometric designs made of contrasting timbers. More elaborate taracea can be made of wood, bone, mother of pearl and in earlier times including ivory and tortoiseshell. I bought mine during a visit to Alhambra Palace. The image is less than 7cm (see image in comments).
Not sure why this was hung from a tree, but it caught my eye, so here it is. I see there is a tag hanging next to it but I did not check to see what it said.

Cruising along the waters of Burrard Inlet in West Vancouver, BC is this Squamish First Nations Cruise Boat. Lovely native decorations clearly define it. It is marked on the side that it travels from Vancouver to Victoria and back.
