Germany, Duisburg, Tiger & Turtle – Magic Mountain,

“a stairway to heaven,…that always brings you back down to earth”

The sculpture was named “Tiger & Turtle” because of the hillock's “standstill” representing the turtle & the sculpture’s “elegant movement” of a tiger.

The 220m long walkable outdoor steel sculpture with zinc-plated grate-steps is 20,6 mtr high, a width of 48,2 mtr & a depth of 34,4 mtr is a concept & design by Heike Mutter & Ulrich Genth. In November 2011the new landmark was opened to the public on the plateau of the hillock which owes its presence to the shifting of large amounts of toxic zinc-slag that have accrued during the productions of local zinc works which was closed in 2005. With an artificially heaped-up by 21mtr, the visitor can rise by more than 45mtr above the level of the landscape & enjoy an impressive view over the area with the Rhine; if the weather isI right.

880 Led-lights are integrated in the handrails & highlight the flight of stairs so the sculpture is accessible at night too. It can be worked-up all the way up to the loop, which results in that the path leads from the entrance in both directions & one must go back to the initial point again. A maximum of 195 visitors are allowed at the same time. The highest attainable point of the sculpture is 13 mtr high. The sculpture has 349 steps, excluding the loop 220 steps are walkable for visitors & the sculpture has a total weight of 90 tons.

Union Station is Toronto’s iconic gateway and a majestic Beaux-Arts landmark that has welcomed travelers since 1927. Located at 65 Front Street West, it’s not just Canada’s busiest transit hub but a living piece of history. From its soaring Great Hall to its modern food court and preserved storefronts, Union blends classic architecture with vibrant urban energy. It’s also a cultural destination, hosting rotating Art & Design exhibitions. Currently on display is A Transit Through Time, a powerful showcase of Black Canadian artists exploring themes of legacy, transformation, and self-expression.

In the hush of early morning, with no footsteps but our own, my wife and I wandered through stories etched in canvas and light. Each placard spoke, each brushstroke lingered, art not just seen, but felt. Union Station, even in stillness, moves you. Just steps from the Blue Jays stadium, this quiet moment felt like a grand slam for the soul.

Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) is a jagged range of more than 70 knifelike peaks in eastern China’s Anhui province. The region's low-hanging clouds, distinctively shaped granite rocks and twisted pine trees have been subjects of numerous classical paintings and poems. Cable cars provide access to several peaks, and steep paved trails with thousands of stone steps snake past many of the range's famous viewpoints. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and one of China's major tourist destinations.

This is a hand-held HDR image taken near Yungu Ropeway on a Spring morning. The yellow-orange colour in the distant sky is surrealistically beautiful.
