Seven metal rings are suspended in the “lantern” of the new police station, each comprised of silhouettes of local residents and police officers. Arranged according to age group, the rings create a generational time tunnel when viewed from below. Thematically, the sculpture reflects the Seven Stages of Life found in Shakespeare’s As You Like It, among other cultural references.
At night the sculpture comes alive from the street, the result of intense illumination from floor-mounted LED’s. Bright blue is the default mode, but the rings slowly alternate to a succession of other rich colors.
The title Blue Lines derives from the term “thin blue line”, a phrase acknowledging the police force as a vital membrane separating civil society and criminal elements. Another inspiration is Code Blue, an innovative program in which Poly neighborhood residents work in tandem with law enforcement professionals.
Hi everyone, I have a very busy day today so I have to make this quick..a few of you said you wanted to see my painting from my first art class...
This is it...the class goes for three hrs...it's great fun but it's not what I expected! I thought the teacher would start us off by teaching us certain techniques for doing things the proper way etc but she basically said "what do you want to paint?" When we picked a picture, we asked her "where do we start?" She told us to paint the background, starting with darker colour at the bottom adding white as we go up etc etc...
When I finished, I asked how to fix this and that, she said it's good the way it is, doesn't need fixing...is it just me?, because I can see a lot of things that need fixing...
I'm not happy with it at all but I know I will get better as I practice more...
Have a magical day, my dear flickerinos!
I'll catch you all tomorrow...
Ciao for now
Nat :)
PS the photo is not very good because I didn't have time to work out where was the best place for lighting so I just took it in my work room...the chalky white you see here, it's not on the painting it's actually lemon coloured background up top...

On a formal level, "Ghost Writer" can be seen as a three-dimensional Pointillist structure. Conceptually, the artwork is a "portrait" of imagination and learning, a metaphor for the creative process.
Over 3,000 varied cast metal forms are precisely located on 900 descending cables. Each element is a sculpture in itself; en masse they articulate a large head within an abstract spiral form.
The head is comprised of 1,500 silver letters, some of which align to spell out words.

Over the past few weeks, we've hosted elementary and middle school students through our Art-in-Ed program, Hands-on Art. It's been loud and crazy in here (and we're loving it)!
In April 2015, the program culminates with "Creating Self and Place," an exhibition of handmade paper, dry point etchings, linoleum cut prints, and screen-printed art made by the ninety students. Find all the event details at: www.facebook.com/events/743457499107655/
Read our latest blog post to find out more about the program and what these young artists are working on: bit.ly/AIEspring.
