“Loving yourself is not arrogant, it is a necessity. It is a gift that doesn’t come easily but when it does, you will never want to let it go. You will smile differently. You will laugh differently. You will feel differently. You will love differently. There will be no desperation to make people see who you are because if they don’t, that’s okay. Not everyone is supposed to see you. You will see yourself and you won’t need validation from anybody else because you are enough."

Ovenbirds spend much of their time foraging on the ground, often walking with a herky-jerky, wandering stroll that is unlike most terrestrial songbirds. Territorial males are very vocal and often sing from tree branches, occasionally quite high up. Ovenbirds breed in closed-canopy forests, particularly deciduous and mixed deciduous-coniferous woods. You may find them in most forest types, from rich oak or maple woods to dry pine forest, although they avoid wet or swampy areas.

“If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him. If he is in superior strength, evade him. If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant. If he is taking his ease, give him no rest. If his forces are united, separate them. If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them. Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected.”

but I am arrogant enough to mean "lower forms of animal life" when I refer to animals. Thus, when I say that I like animals, I do not necessarily include my own species, among whom are large numbers of individuals for whom I have no fondness at all, and some whom I hold in utter contempt. Indeed, I sometimes wonder why "You're an animal" is an insult; it seems to me that, if animals could talk, "You're a human" would be one of their favorite insults :-)

Landscape photography is a fleeting love, at least the subjects are that is. Iconic trees die, idiots tag rocks, and arches collapse. I went looking for Windstone Arch in Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada expecting to see that same iconic scene I have seen in many other great images. Found the cave, found the odd rock face inside the cave, did NOT find the arch. Why? It was not there anymore. Poof. Gone. Erosion or some dummy with powertools, I don't know, but the actual upright of the old arch was not there anymore. The cave is still as stunning and still totally delivered in the image though. I was just surprised to find it missing.

I visited this cave late in the day because conventional wisdom says to visit it in the morning. Naturally I try to steer clear of wisdom (actually I try to steer clear of crowds). This way I got the cave to myself. I shot it tight, I shot it wide, I tried several angles, but in the end I liked this wide shot best. I thought the wide perspective pulled the viewer into the scene. I also shot this in a focus stack, but I actually preferred the foreground a little soft, again, so it pulled the viewer in.

We found that this specific cave was interesting but by no means the only cave with these neat wind-swept qualities and strange internal formations. I shot a few others that might get posted, but you should know that if you head out there to shot this cave and can't find it, there are plenty of other great caves to shoot. I almost feel bad going with this super popular spot instead of using another lesser-known cave. I feel the same way when I go to the Portland Japanese Garden and try NOT to shoot 'that' Japanese Maple Tree. But, I end up shooting that darn tree every time (after you wait in the line que that is). I guess it was my way of knowing I could get one portfolio image in the can without that much effort. You know it delivers.

Now I made myself feel bad. I am going to go process the other neglected images from other caves. Teach this popular cave a lesson. He is so arrogant.

Let me know what you think.

Three strong oxen were living in the bush. one red, white and black. One day a lion came upon them and wondered how he might eat the three oxen. The lion realized that he could not attack all the three oxen at the same time . He made a plan to divide them and eat them one by one.

The lion came to the red & black oxen and told them that the white ox was spoiling the bush where they lived. He suggested that the white ox should be killed in order to save the environment. Unknowingly the two oxen thought that the lion was right and allowed him to kill and eat the white ox.

After few days, the lion again came to the red ox and told him that the black ox was arrogant and was intending to kill him (the red ox). The lion suggested that he should protect the life of the red ox by killing the black ox. The red ox agreed the lion’s plan and killed the black ox.

After few days the lion came to the red ox and said, “It is now your time to die.”

The red ox now understood the planned trick of the lion, but was powerless .

The red ox said to the lion,

“You killed me when you killed the white ox.”

You rebuke the arrogant, who are accursed,

those who stray from your commands.

Remove from me their scorn and contempt,

Just watching this scene on the spot, I knew what it was telling me. But my thoughts were still very abstract and so I first had to do some research on the internet until I found a formulation that I could use as a title.

You have already seen several pictures of ancient beautiful laurel trees (and there will be more to come) that can be found in the hundreds here in the Fanal National Park on Madeira. But these trees, which are sometimes several hundred years old, also stand on the legacy of their ancestors. Without their past and ultimately their death, they would have no future. If they existed at all, they would not be nearly as magnificent as they are today.

No matter how clever or unique we think we are, no matter how much we dislike (perhaps even despise) the attitudes or ways of life of previous generations, none of us would be here today without their life's work. For this reason alone, all generations before us deserve the highest respect without hasty arrogant judgments.

If we want to shape our future and enable our children to have one, we must always carry the past in our hearts.

Isaiah 2: 6-11

The Day of the Lord

"6

You, Lord, have abandoned your people,

the descendants of Jacob.

They are full of superstitions from the East;

they practice divination like the Philistines

and embrace pagan customs.

7

Their land is full of silver and gold;

there is no end to their treasures.

Their land is full of horses;

there is no end to their chariots.

8

Their land is full of idols;

they bow down to the work of their hands,

to what their fingers have made.

9

So people will be brought low

and everyone humbled—

do not forgive them.[a]

10

Go into the rocks, hide in the ground

from the fearful presence of the Lord

and the splendor of his majesty!

11

The eyes of the arrogant will be humbled

and human pride brought low;

the Lord alone will be exalted in that day."

About the photo :

This photo was from a smaller spot of big landscape image , but the whole image looks a bit boring, almost deleted it. But the tiny spot which looks nice of its own. I cropped and enlarged it. Not the best, but I like the scenery.

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head

But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red

Cryin's not for me

'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'

Because I'm free

Nothin's worryin' me

With its noisy chattering, black-and-white plumage and long tail, there is nothing else quite like the magpie in the UK. When seen close-up its black plumage takes on an altogether more colourful hue with a purplish-blue iridescent sheen to the wing feathers and a green gloss to the tail.

Magpies seem to be jacks of all trades - scavengers, predators and pest-destroyers, their challenging, almost arrogant attitude has won them few friends. Non-breeding birds will gather together in flocks.

I would like this divine October afternoon

take a walk, along the far shore of the sea;

That the golden sand, and the green waters,

And the pure skies saw me pass.

To be tall, arrogant, perfect, I would like,

like a woman from ancient Rome,

to coincide with the sea,

with the big waves, and the dead rocks

and the wide beaches that surround the sea.

With the slow pace, and the cold eyes

and the mute mouth, let me go;

See how the blue waves break,

against my ankles and not blink

See how birds of prey eat each other

small fish, and not wake up from my sleep

To think that the fragile boats

they can sink in the waters, and not scare me

See what's coming, the air in my throat, and sigh

see the most beautiful man; and not want it...

lose sight, distractedly,

lose her, and never find her again;

And in my upright figure, between sky and beach,

feel the perennial forgetfulness of the sea.

Said the secretary to the marabou. A matter of attitude. For me he looks a bit arrogant ;-)

The Marabou: flic.kr/p/2hB8RFF

/

The secretary (Sagittarius serpentarius) is a large species of birds of prey that inhabit large parts of the African continent south of the Sahara. He inhabits savannah landscapes and feeds mainly on large insects and small mammals, which he kills with long-legged kicks. But other small animals are among his prey. Among other things, he is also able to hunt poisonous snakes. The neck plumage is extended to a characteristic, long and sparse bonnet, possibly the name "secretary" goes back to this feature, as the feathers of the hood act like behind the ear inserted quills.

///

I love walnut trees, with their generous crowns without being crowded, with their bark's color resembling the color of the sea stones, with the special green of the fine leaves, with the almost arrogant greatness with which they face the heat of the hot summers of the South and the sharp frost of our winters.

I took this one from the garden of my former apartment in the city, it's the "baby" of the walnut tree I found when moved there, many many years ago, it was no taller than a bottle of water when I planted it here.

I can only hope it will be here many many years after me, generously giving food to the smart crows and joy to the ones watching it.

..................................................

Blue clematis is noble, aristocratic

But at the same time - shy, not arrogant

And that's why we all like him, of course.

Clematis is blue - how beautiful it is

When it blooms, nature is glad to see it

And the sun is in our souls and hearts

That's it - and you don't need anything else.

Just to keep the smile on your face..

It's as if General Custer has come back to life. More powerful, more arrogant. More selfish. More cruel. As if life were just a game where only the strongest have the right to play. Intelligence, common sense, lucidity, fraternity, generosity—these are empty words, Custer never understood them before. And he still doesn't. But just as Sitting Bull taught him that there are limits to human ignorance, that same ignorance will find the limit to its eternal lack of limits. Maybe then, the real game can be played again by all of us.

Black Is The Colour

💋Drumknott

Black is the colour of my true love's hair

Her lips are like some roses fair

She has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands

And I love the ground whereon she stands

I love my love and well she knows

I love the ground whereon she goes

I wish the day, soon would come

When she and I could be one

I go the Clyde, I mourn and weep

For satisfied, I never can be

And then I write her a letter, just a few short lines

And I suffer death a thousand times

Black is the colour of my true love's hair

Her lips are like some roses fair

She has the sweetest smile and the gentlest hands

I love the ground whereon she stands

I have walked many roads

I have opened many paths;

I have sailed a hundred seas

and docked on a hundred banks.

Everywhere I have seen

caravans of sadness,

arrogant and melancholic

drunkards of black shadow.

And pedantic to the cloth

who look, shut up and think

what do you know, why don't they drink

the wine from the taverns.

Bad people who walk

and the earth is stinking ...

And everywhere I have seen

people who dance or play,

when they can, and they work

its four spans of land.

Never, if they come to a site

they ask where they go.

When they walk they ride

on the back of an old mule.

And they don't know the rush

not even on holidays.

Where there is wine, they drink wine,

where there is no wine, fresh water

It's been a few years since this rare visitor has made an appearance this far south. Last fall saw a bumper crop of conifer cones (spruce, fir, hemlock and pine) in New England and Eastern Canada. This enabled the Nuthatches to be very productive breeders this past spring/summer and we may have a good Red-breasted Nuthatch season. They've been reported at many parks, nature centers and refuges in the area.
