A former radio telescope antenna horn is used to demonstrate radio emissions from the Sun. The signal is 1.0 volts when pointing directly at the Sun.
The Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) is a radio astronomy observatory located about 50 miles (64 km) west of Socorro, New Mexico. The VLA consists of twenty-seven 25-meter (82 feet) diameter radio telescopes deployed in a Y-shaped array, together with all the equipment needed to process the collected data and function as an interferometer. Each of the radio telescopes is mounted along double parallel railroad tracks, which allows changing the configuration of the system. Placing the radio telescopes closer together increases surface brightness sensitivity. Spreading them out increases angular resolution. The system was built from 1973 to 1980 and is being modernized, starting in 2011.

Microscopy images taken during my fall quarter rotation in Stephen Smith's lab at Stanford. The technique is array tomography, which produces for these crisp, 3D, high resolution, large scale, many-channel fluorescence images.

S116-E-06852 (18 Dec. 2006) --- Anchored to the International Space Station's Canadarm2 foot restraint, astronaut Robert L. Curbeam Jr., STS-116 mission specialist, works with the port overhead solar array wing on the International Space Station's P6 truss during the mission's fourth session of extravehicular activity (EVA). European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Christer Fuglesang (out of frame), mission specialist, worked in tandem with Curbeam, using specially-prepared, tape-insulated tools, to guide the array wing neatly inside its blanket box during the 6-hour, 38-minute spacewalk.
Pcb of the new detector system for the next 3D unit (2013) with 2 external fast 6 ms shutters. I would like to calculate the optimal position as well as the direction of flight. Detector calculation need to be super fast, into less then 50us. The readout of the 128 analog pixels from the sensor + high-speed ADC 8 bits convertion may take a max of 50 us, + 50 us for position-direction calculation (10.000 calculations per second). This is a start of my dream, the special components are just in order, planning delivery next Tuesday. Given the new components, the majority are implanted in SMD. This is an additional difficulty, only single-layer PCB is available at this moment. The line-sensor is true hole 14 pins version, all others are SMD.
Discussion can also be followed on the next Dutch forum:

Update:
All components are delivered! Time to make the interface board to the FPGA DE1 board to connect this line array unit.

I drove over to Ron & Angela's home today and worked on some cabochons, after selling some more petrified wood specimens to Ron - this array of cabs is made up of mostly his, but two or three I made and then sold to him (some I have previously photographed and shown on flickr).

I remember at the time the combination of sun placement and the vast diversity of colours on display bothered my eyes quite a bit.
I like the composition and colours of the objects. I also enjoy how the shadows interact with each other.
