On a day when the majority of the country was blessed with unbroken sunshine, 68003 'Astute' traverses the Kent estuary over Arnside Viaduct with 6C15, the 10.00 Drigg BNF - Shap Summit Quarry empty stone on Thurs 6th February 2025.
The current flow of trains are moving stone from Shap Quarry into the Low Level Waste Repository at Drigg BNF for the capping of vaults.
The view looking North from Arnside Knott across the Kent Estuary to the Lakeland Fells is certainly one to savour.
The Kent Viaduct carries the railway line that travels across to Grange over Sands and on up the West Cumbrian coast eventually reaching Carlisle.
You can see the buildings that line the Estuary below in the town of Arnside and then the Western and Eastern Fells of the English Lake District have a late dusting of snow on their summits.

The late evening light over the meadows of Burton in Kendal , with Warton Crag silhouetted in the middle left of the frame and the two Nuclear Power Station buildings at Heysham on the far left. The coast you can see is the North of Morecambe Bay with South Cumbrian Lakeland to the right near Grange Over Sands and Arnside.
You can also make out the Limestone face of Holme Park Quarry in the mid ground..
