This worm gear came from my 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth window control mechanism that I had to replace. If you know me, you know I like little motors so I dissected out the motor and found this interesting worm gear. I've posted the complete armature part of the motor before and I even shot this gear once but never posted it. So, with "Screw" for the Macro Mondays theme this week I decided to shoot it again and see what I could come up with after a bit of cleaning. So much for the rusty lag bolt...
The worm screw gear is relatively small and measures 0.35 in. x 1.0 in. I used the Nikon 55mm f/2.8 NIKKOR Micro lens w/PK-12&13 Extension Tubes, 41.5mm total extension and a 30 image focus stack at f/5.6 to keep everything sharp. The first time I shot this I found the orange and blue clamps that I used to "suspend" the gear had snuck back into the reflection so I wrapped the clamps with my gold ribbon and taped some to a piece of cardboard that I placed below the gear. I used blue tape to hold the ribbon to the cardboard and it got picked up but I liked the look by the gold. You can also probable guess the color shirt I'm wearing.

For quite a few years this armature did it's job in the vacuum control module of my 2001 Audi A4. Eventually the pump parts failed and I could no longer lock any of the doors. I replaced the module and put the old one in a drawer for future dissection, that was around 2008. A contact has been posting his collection of small armatures so I thought I'd see what I could come up with myself. This one was shot with a single light source placed to the right of the camera for the Macro Mondays theme, "Sidelit". The armature measures app. 1 in. X 0.75 in., the copper shaft diameter is 0.25 in.

An ancient medieval village, the historic center of Teggiano (SA) is located on an isolated hill overlooking the Vallo di Diano, in Campania.
The construction of the Norman Castle dates back to the decision of the Sanseverino family to elect Teggiano as their stronghold.
The village houses Churches of great interest: San Michele Arcangelo, the Annunziata, originally Romanesque with baroque overlays, Sant'Agostino and San Pietro, both pre-Renaissance, and the imposing Cathedral of Santa Maria Maggiore.

Funny how little most people know about the devices they use every day. Unless, according to Dilbert, "...you have the knack." As an engineer, I've always loved to take things apart and a hard drive is a pretty amazing electro-mechanical devise.
I think this hard drive came from my first computer and it's been sitting around just waiting for it's day. I tried to disassemble it to remove the armature which spins the drive platter but the assembly process is pretty much a one way street. I didn't have the right tools so I tried to drill and cut my way in but finally resorted to a bigger hammer. I didn't get to the armature but was able to extract the arm that contains the pick-ups that read and write the data to the drive. I was intrigued by the look of the pick-up heads and when the Macro Mondays group had "Damaged" for it's theme, I knew I had to give the device a try.
The reflective properties of the hard drive are interesting and can be seen in this pic. The top of the image is some sparkle paper bokeh but the middle and lower area is the reflection.

A BESPOKE locally-crafted unicorn sculpture has been donated to Helix Park in Falkirk – home of the Kelpies – by artist David Powell as part of the Meet Your Maker project run by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) and Craft Scotland.
The unicorn, which has been named Spirit of Scotland, is made of metal armature and woven with white willow. It joins the world’s largest equine structure at the site.
Completed in 2019, Spirit of Scotland was featured at HES’s Magical Unicorn event at Stirling Castle last year.

I best save these as I suspect I'll need them for the matter-antimatter warp drive I'm building in the basement! The way they seem to be defying gravity I suspect they have some special properties! OK, maybe not and you may have seen the top one in a macro image I made for the Macro Mondays group, if not see the first comment. An armature to a small motor I liberated from a failed vacuum control module that operated the locks on a 2001 Audi A4. The lower one was from a more recent repair to my 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth where I had to replace the window control mechanism. I found it interesting that both were very similar down to the same green paint! Shot with my Nikon 55mm Micro against a glitter paper background, SC processed, the support block was removed and the PS history brush used to blend the background bokeh.

C'est le hasard qui voulu que cet ours soit placé ici, dans la rue du Noyer, à Strasbourg, alors que cette rue était nommée au XVIIIème siècle, Bärengesselin, soit la « ruelle de l’Ours », et la "rue du petit ours" en 1816.
C'est l'architecte Christian Paradon, responsable des rénovations de la rue, qui installa la statue en janvier 2015.

It is 5 meters high, 5 meters wide and 5 meters long, and was made by Antoine Halbwachs and Christophe Wehrung, two former students of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg (France).
It was by chance that this bear was placed here, in the rue du Noyer, in Strasbourg, when this street was named in the 18th century, Bärengesselin, or the "alley of the Bear", and the "rue du little bear" in 1816.

A partir de 1856, Abel Warocqué construit un jardin d’hiver qui rappelle l’orangerie du 18e siècle annexée au palais de Charles de Lorraine. Cette orangerie orientée plein sud développe neuf hautes arcades en plein cintre fermées par des verrières à châssis métalliques. Elle était couverte à l’origine d’une verrière en berceau sur armature métallique, remplacée aujourd’hui par une toiture de zinc.
L’imposant escalier de pierre est fermé par une grille monumentale en fer forgé de 1875. Elle provient du château de la Roche à Suarlée et a été placée par Raoul Warocqué.
From 1856, Abel Warocqué built a winter garden reminiscent of the 18th century orangery annexed to the palace of Charles de Lorraine. This south-facing orangery develops nine high semi-circular arches closed by canopies with metal frames. It was originally covered with a barrel-shaped canopy on a metal frame, now replaced by a zinc roof.
The imposing stone staircase is closed by a monumental wrought iron gate from 1875. It comes from the Château de la Roche in Suarlée and was placed by Raoul Warocqué.

Homage to the Cathedral of Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Nantes and to the people of Nantes
Un incendie impressionnant et une piste criminelle envisagée. Une centaine de pompiers et une quarantaine d’engins ont été dépêchés pour combattre un « feu important » signalé vers 7h45 à l’intérieur de la cathédrale Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Nantes, samedi 18 juillet. Ils ont réussi à le maîtriser assez rapidement : vers 10 heures, ils ont pu annoncer que l’incendie était « circonscrit ».
Une enquête a été ouverte pour « incendie volontaire », a fait savoir peu après le procureur de la République de Nantes, Pierre Sennès. « L’enquête est ouverte sur la base des constatations effectuées, après découverte de trois départs de feu espacés les uns des autres (...) au niveau du grand orgue, à droite et à gauche de la nef. » « Un expert incendie venu de Paris est attendu sur place cet après-midi », a-t-il encore souligné.
Le grand orgue a « complètement disparu »
Le feu a principalement endommagé le grand orgue « qui semble être entièrement détruit. La plate-forme sur laquelle il se situe est très instable et menace de s’effondrer », a déclaré le directeur départemental des pompiers, le général Laurent Ferlay, lors d’un point-presse devant la cathédrale.
L’administrateur diocésain, le père François Renaud, en charge de la cathédrale en raison d’une vacance du siège épiscopal, a pu rentrer avec les pompiers à l’intérieur de la cathédrale et a déclaré que « le grand orgue avait complètement disparu ». « C’est très impressionnant et c’est une perte inestimable », a-t-il ajouté, ému.
« La console de l’orgue de chœur a disparu en fumée et les stalles en bois attenantes. Derrière le grand orgue, il y a des vitraux d’origine qui ont tous volé en éclats. C’est une verrière complète du XVIe. »
En revanche, « on n’est pas dans scénario “Notre-Dame de Paris” » a souligné M. Ferlay, précisant que la toiture « refaite en armature béton, n’est pas touchée ». Le 15 avril 2019, la célèbre cathédrale de la capitale avait été ravagée par un incendie, qui a détruit sa toiture.
Déjà un important incendie en 1972
Ce n’est pas la première fois que cette cathédrale au cœur de Nantes est touchée par un incendie. Le 28 janvier 1972, le toit de la cathédrale gothique Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul, construite entre le XVe et le XIXe siècle, avait été ravagé par les flammes. Le sinistre s’était déclaré à la suite de travaux effectués par un couvreur.
La cathédrale de Nantes n’avait pu être rendue au culte qu’en mai 1985, après plus de treize ans de travaux.
En 2015, toujours à Nantes, un autre édifice catholique avait été touché par un incendie spectaculaire qui avait détruit les trois quarts du toit de la basilique Saint-Donatien-et-Saint-Rogatien, un édifice religieux du XIXe siècle.

Around 100 firefighters and around 40 devices were dispatched to fight a "major fire" reported at around 7.45am inside the Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral in Nantes on Saturday July 18. They were able to bring it under control fairly quickly: around 10 a.m. they were able to announce that the fire was "contained".
An investigation was opened for "arson", said shortly after the prosecutor of the Republic of Nantes, Pierre Sennès. The great organ has "completely disappeared"

On January 28, 1972, the roof of the Gothic Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul cathedral, built between the 15th and 19th centuries, was devastated by flames. The incident was declared following work carried out by a roofer.
Nantes cathedral could not be returned to worship until May 1985, after more than thirteen years of work.
In 2015, still in Nantes, another Catholic building was hit by a spectacular fire which destroyed three quarters of the roof of the Saint-Donatien-et-Saint-Rogatien basilica, a 19th century religious building.

Here's an HDR shot of a planter I recently made with its new companion plant. (You can see the water beading because the planter is sealed).
In August I took a 10 day intensive course with Donald Tucker in the techniques of making cement look like wood, an almost lost art form known as faux bois or trabajo rustico.
We learned how to build metal armatures, make special cement mixes and apply them, and how to use stains--all to give the illusion of wood.
I enjoyed the work very much. It felt natural to me. I'm currently gathering the equipment and supplies so that I can continue working in this medium!

This is a polished, shining armature - like the form of round stainless steel tubing connecting randomly placed, coloured glass openings. Four quadrants divided by horizontal planes with connecting verticals create the spaces for the connections of these windows and doors. One can see the external form while simultaneously seeing what is internal. The brain is stunningly beautiful - a mystery of connections and a connection of mysteries.

Funny how little most people know about the devices they use every day. Unless, according to Dilbert, "...you have the knack." As an engineer, I've always loved to take things apart and a hard drive is a pretty amazing electro-mechanical devise.
I think this hard drive came from my first computer and it's been sitting around just waiting for it's day. I tried to disassemble it to remove the armature which spins the drive platter but the assembly process is pretty much a one way street. I didn't have the right tools so I tried to drill and cut my way in but finally resorted to a bigger hammer. I didn't get to the armature but was able to extract the arm that contains the pick-ups that read and write the data to the drive. I was intrigued by the look of the pick-up heads and when the Macro Mondays group had "Damaged" for it's theme, I knew I had to give the device a try.

Some horses for the transfer were caught just before the trip and their character is more free. Saddles are very simple and technical - a rough frame made of metal armature covered with thick hard leather. It is impossible to relax in them for a second. The horse's move is very fractional - the horses are not high and very impetuous. Such cross-country riding without habit - even for a trained horse rider is a serious test and on the set and in the travel. if you've read this far, I'm on the right with the striped camera bag.... up and down the foothills - up and down.. go down and up the mountain again - the distances in Altai are huge.. in this freeze-frame of the video from the filming behind the scenes - the most interesting thing is still ahead for me! I don't suspect that
in just an hour I will be alone, with broken ribs, to catch my wild horse in the stony mountain wilderness.

Glass Fourteen, Youth Public Art Project: With artist mentor Laurie Spieker, owner of Grand River Glassworks, and Director of Education, Sheila McMath, of the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery, high school students from Kitchener and Waterloo created this public artwork.
The students collaboratively decided on the theme and overall design for this permanent, large-scale installation, and created the fused glass components over seven months, from April 2012 to October 2012. Blacksmith Sandra Dunn, co-owner of Two Smiths, created the metal armature.
