Two of a row of Sarnia's early buildings pulled down to make way for the present Drawbridge Inn on Christina St. in 1962, the small brick building on the left being the old bank, built by Alexander Mackenzie in 1852. The house adjoining it was erected by Capt. Vidal in 1843. The little bank was to be preserved, but the developer decided he wanted to move the building to another location. The interior consists of interweaving corridors, stairwells, alcoves and landings allowing the movement of large numbers of people and space for socializing during intermission. Rich with velvet, gold leaf, and cherubs and nymphs, the interior is characteristic of Baroque sumptuousness. The Palais Garnier's style is considered Beaux-Arts because it incorporates classical principles (symmetry in design) and exterior ornamentation
