About my Explore

I had seen this place online whilst searching for another location not too far away. I then decided to have a drive past it and check it out and my god I was not sorry!

Sure the place is now a empty, dark and spooky shell but you can see the proud standing tower from a distance - I knew that I had to get inside and have a look.

Access to the ground is not that hard to be honest and there is a clear way in if you wanted to visit the place. Thankfully I brought along my head torch today as it was very dark in some places - especially the very narrow stair way to the tower / roof.

I spent about an hour having a look around this place and despite the fact it is an empty shell now, there is alot to look at whilst your here.

Sometimes you don't have to go far to find amazing architexture! This is my view when I walk out my front door here in Belleville, IL. It's a simple bay window with some cool support structures in the upper right of the image. Remember, amazing architexture isn't always found in some far flung place across the globe, it's right in your hometown near when you live. You just need to find it! .. or .. some architeXture in Stuttgart .. happy Tuesday my friends :)

.. found on my recent photowalk in Stuttgart .. happy Donnerstagsmonochrom my friends :)

The Torre del Mangia.

In nearby Maremma, 50 years ago, the elderly described the Moon of Mangia, which in Siena was suspended in the sky, without any support.

Even then, I was less than 10 years old, it seemed impossible to me, but the description was reiterated as true.

About 30 years later, going to Siena one afternoon, from the top of a hill I saw the view of the distant city over which, in the low light of the sun nearing sunset, the white top of the tower stood out, while the body below, in red bricks , it was confused with the roof tiles, of the same color and material.

It looked just like a moon suspended in the blue sky!

Jan Kowalewski (23 October 1892 – 31 October 1965) was a Polish cryptologist, intelligence officer, engineer, journalist, military commander, and creator and first head of the Polish Cipher Bureau. He recruited a large staff of cryptologists who broke Soviet military codes and ciphers during the Polish-Soviet War, enabling Poland to weather the war and achieve victory in the 1920 Battle of Warsaw.
