The silhouette of Zierikzee has been making good impressions for six centuries and more. Many of the walls, gates, churches, towers and windmills of those long-gone days are still with us today, among them 500-plus monuments.
City rights
It was in 1248 that Zierikzee received its town charter. By the medieval era, it had acquired a strategic importance: between 1414 and 1576 fires reduced to partial or complete ashes several times.
The wars of the 20th centuries had their impact too. In WW1, an off-course British bomber dropped several bombs on Zierikzee, killing three citizens. In the decades after the Second World War, some 30 million kilos of munition were dumped in the (deep) Gat van Zierikzee in the Oosterschelde estuary – and remain there today.
I am continuing my earlier series of minimal architectural views here in Europe, having interrupted them with a series of beach impressions during my time in Sri Lanka. Now I remembered a few successful shots I took a few years ago in Schwerzenbach, Switzerland, of an amazingly futuristic building. The pictures fit perfectly into the current series of pictures.

Named after Maharana Sajjan Singh, the Monsoon Palace is also known as Sajjan Garh built in 1884. Posted at the top of a hill, the Monsoon Palace was originally built to overlook Maharana Sajjan Singh’s hometown, Chittorgarh. View from top floor.
One of the icons of Neuchatel city, I could never figure out where this view was, I kept walking around several times, found slightly different viewpoints but not this. So on Sunday I decided to walk until I find it. I had to climb around 3 millions steps because every staircase had a private property at the end so had to go back down and try another staircase. I eventually found a narrow passage right next to the rail track. I didn't hang around there long as it was midday with a harsh sun, following next 2 days were raining so returned there yesterday for sunrise. Unfortunately there was no colour in the sky so will have to return in the next few days
This is one of the most popular bridges in Paris France. I just had to get a picture of it when I was there!
The image captures the Secession Building, a prime example of Jugendstil architecture, in Vienna, Austria. The building's facade is predominantly white with intricate detailing and decorative elements characteristic of the Art Nouveau style. A prominent feature is the green-domed roof, which adds a striking contrast to the white facade. The building appears well-maintained and stands out against a clear blue sky. Several outdoor cafe seating areas are visible in the foreground, suggesting a lively urban setting. The surrounding area appears to be a bustling city center with pedestrians and outdoor dining establishments.
