Tastes changed quickly in the nineteenth century. Within a decade of this building's completion, it was lambasted in the national architectural press as an "architectural abberation," and ascribed to an architect for whom historical architecture was "a field not for study, but for pillage."

We were invited to view and critique the work by 3rd year diploma Interior Design students. The project brief was to design a new use for the Napolionic Fort at the Isle of Wight Zoo. With the help of our artists friend Tim Johnson we ran some workshops at the university earlier in the year that looked at habitats, structures and enclosures, the idea was to inspire the students to come up with some interesting and novel designs for the zoo's fort entrance.
